Hi all,

I've decided to log my way to lvl 70 in Swordsman (Hit) (Commando !!!) and share the results.

Goals:
  • Swordsman (Hit) lvl 70 - unlock Commando (primary target) - start at 59,4545
  • Evader lvl 45 - start at 36,0969
  • HP: 200 - start at 169,6
Gear:
  • Nano Katana + Trauma VI
  • Ozpyn S1X3 + A104 - NOT ANYMORE
  • Arsonistic Chip III TEN Edition
  • Adjusted Restoration Chip
  • Ares Ring (L), Athenic Ring (L)
  • Vivo T20 (L) - for emergency healing
  • Rascal (L), Zombie (L), Gremlin, 2a, 5b - only if necessary (I try to hunt naked when I can)
  • I also use Neurobiotic Boosters from Strongboxes to increase skill gain, and sometimes Neurostim-X, -X2, -Y, -Y2, -Z
Mobs - I try to choose mobs that have missions with rewards that boost Evade/HP/Swordsman:
  • Ambulimax - 10 ped per global on Nea's
  • Feffoid - Athletics/Courage rewards for Bronze Challenge
  • Maffoid - Longblades/Perception/Courage rewards for Iron Challenge
  • Rextelum - huge Longblades or Evade bonus for last stage
  • Atrox - Athletics/Courage rewards for Bronze Challenge
  • Kreltin - Melee Combat for Iron Challenge
  • Aurli - Athletics for Iron Challenge

Tempting to take the longblades for the rex reward since you're going for commando, but man, It's really hard to convince me to not take evade if you can.

Choices:
Stamina (100 Tokens) and Longblades (eq. 168.50 PED implant) or,
Stamina (100 Tokens) and Inflict Ranged Damage (eq. 111.00 PED implant) or,
Stamina (100 Tokens) and Evade (eq. 55.42 PED implant) or,
Longblades (eq. 194.10 PED implant) or,
Inflict Ranged Damage (eq. 127.50 PED implant) or,
Evade (eq. 63.75 PED implant)

What do you think?

Should take longblades.

Evade comes in many forms.
 
Kreltin and Aaurli will be a challenge with 58 dps. A single aurli or kreltin wouldn't be a problem but every spawn has it's internal logic and those spawns are fine tuned for higher dps. Result is you can't keep up with the spawn and clean the area and eventually will get swarmed.

I like to think about it as being forced into defensive tactic (the spawn controls you) versus taking initiative and using offensive tactic to clean the area around you and keep moving on before the next respawn cycle hits (you are controlling the spawn). Offensive tactic results in significantly lower defensive cost.

Then again, if your goal is to get your evade up as fast as possible then higher defensive cost isn't a problem. Resto chip helps a lot in this situation as well.

I have a similar goal with shortblades.
Currently 68.4x
Level 45.5 evader
202.5hp

By the time you hit 70 you will have reached your secondary goals for sure.

I am playing a lot more casually now and it is slooowwww going at only about 1% of a level per hour (700-900ish blade decay) on medium/high hp mobs.

What tier is your blade and are you using dmg enhancers?
For pure skill grinding lower hp mobs (with still enough hp you don't take an overkill penalty) will end up giving you more kill skill bonuses and reaching your goal sooner.
 
Iron mission from Troopers has reward for melee and they are easy to kill. Stage V has 75.63 PED implant as reward.

Those ranged bots are painful as melee and defense cost is not worth the rewards.

Missions are a bonus. They shouldn't be sought after because if you pick the wrong mob, would be cheaper to just chip it. Grinding for skills with a skill pills yields far more than any mission.
 
Try to find a spawn with some bigger trees if you are going for robots. Lure them behind a tree and left click them down. Safed me quite some defensive costs.

Can you explain this in a bit more detail? Not sure how this works?

Sorry I forgot to mention that first five runs were on Ambu - I hunt them naked so na armor cost only resto chip. And then defensive cost are that low. On Feffs and Maffoids I expect to be similar, but Rextelum already show higher armor bill.

I will really have a hard choice here: Commando is my primary goal, but on the other hand Evade is what stops me now from hunting certain mobs as I have a rule not to hunt mobs with level higher than my evade:) So I will see what are my Evader and Swordsman lvl when I get there and then make my decision

What tier is your blade and are you using dmg enhancers?
Katana is 7.9 so ready to tier 8. Normally I don't use damage enhancers, but during events I sometimes do.

So for you too with ~1k runs it starts alternating between good run/bad run, plus and minus.

i tend to cycle 600-1000 a ped, and my daily hunting graph shows its normally 1 day win & 1 day loss

So the same trend appears with different setups. Two ways to explain it.
First that comes to mind is a sine wave. Then again, this would suggest personal sine waves and I agree with atomicstorm here that seems kinda long shot. Not very likely but ofc not entirely impossible.
Another way to explain it would be some kind of compensation mechanism. By scoring a very bad loot you are raising some kind of red flag in the system "loot owed to this guy". But it doesn't always happen, just the fact you get a loss is not enough there's apparently other conditions that have to be met. Also, this pattern doesn't seem to appear at short runs.

Sorry for not posting for a while - I had a lot of work IRL and almost no time to play:(
In the future I'll try to pos the log right after run.

To sum up: two good runs I have recently keeps me around ~93% return (TT) - which I guess its not so bad:)
Skills are growing I'm now lvl 60 Swordsman (Hit) and lvl 57 Swordsman (Dmg).

Also I bought Arsonistic Chip III Ten Edition - used it in one run so far but I already like it:)
