At first I thought it was just me... then I started noticing a lot of people discussing the EU and how they have recently began to find themselves bored out of their minds.

"Horray," I thought... "At least it isn't just me!"

So I ask you, the readers of EF...

Are you finding that the luster of the EU is gone? Do you find yourself bored more often than not, wishing you had something exciting to spark your interest once again?

I personally think the EU have started venturing away from an MMORPG genre and is now becoming more of a "make money if you have money" system that focuses on market speculation/manipulation and less and less on being fun and enjoyable for the everyday player.

There are certainly player-created events that can be fun and entertaining, even if quite expensive, but for the most part, MA has robbed the regular joe from being able to have fun on a regular basis.

I personally find this very upsetting, because as a paying player, I think I should be getting a little fun for my money.

How do you feel? Please feel free to discuss. Ideas on how to make things more exciting for everyone are certainly welcome.

Yep Eu has gotten boring before my pc died in on me but i usually find that i need a break when i find games boring so i can get into then again.

Anyway this article on the eu website hints to a very promising event in the near future...
EBN: Urgent, The Infiltrators

7 June 2007

The EBN space station in Calypso's orbit has just a moment ago intercepted of a sub-space signal directed at robot forces on Calypso. Although largely undecipherable, the message seems to contain some code and sets of coordinates on Calypso's surface:

.....::1:st:e/a:1808318406=(EudOpen)::....::2:nd:e/a:97273010=(AmeOpen)::.....

The entire message has been passed on to officials at RDI for any assistance they may be able to offer. With recent discoveries of enormous Mining Bots in northern Amethera, we're not quite ready what to expect, but it's sure to be dangerous.

In the mean time EBN are putting a team together to investigate possible sites and hope to be supported by some of Calypso's toughest warriors.

Yep pretty bored right now, add to that, new policy developments and double standards... I really find myself here on EF more than anything. Have to drag myself to log in to EU then log out in 15 minutes because thats all the longer it takes for me to realize it's pointless again...

bored because i stopped despoiting. and i wont deposit until MA clear up the mess regarding the licensed banks (even tho it doesnt affect me directly).

im playing less and less :(

not to mention ive been stuck with the same gear for around a year or so and there is no way i can afford a small upgrade.

im having trouble switching on to EU. when i log on i have some fun, especially soc chat, banter etc. if i meet up with someone for a hunt thats cool.

but i find myself not logging on when i have free time. more significantly, money i had earmarked for EU has not been deposited and just left out since i dont seem to be able to find value. i thought the price of target purchases 6, 9, 12 months ago was too much then, now its obsurd. instead of logging on yesturday afternoon i spent a couple of hour looking at a new TVs. The focus does seem to be 90% about money and theres enough of that at work and in real life.

IMO MA takes the "its not a game" part to serious.
I find me playing much less than before simply because i can't see the fun in losing my ass off all the time (at least i had some hofs but that money is long gone) and no chance to advance skill or item wise. It's strange i realy loved that game but now i find me ranting about it damn often...

To quote Etopia ... It's their busines, they know best ... :scratch2:

Don't know how long it will take until i finaly arrive at the "Disillusioned and in Denial" state of mind ... but i still have hope :tapfinger

i cant stop i still love it like the day i started couple years ago, ofc ive had a break or 2, pc broke and i got a better job longer hours but im still addicted love it / hate it i still cant seem to get bored even sitting round chatting makes my day :silly2: ofc some worries ie unless i win the lottery or sell some property aint no chance ima be able to upgrade much which is sad id like to progress from ubah nooba someday  but agin to answer the question me personally aint bored and pretty much doubt i will ....

Yeah. It's getting hard to keep up excitement. New mobs and new armor and new weapons are fine, but I do not have unlimted funds to *spend* on a game....urm...virtual world. I used to be able to play plenty by spending wisely (I'm not lurking on the auction shopping for hats or coats..ok, ok...I have been eying a set of Expedition amror ;)) or getting mileage from my deposits. Going by the "luck cycle" theory, I take time off and wait for the pendulum to swing...but...FFS...SWING, ALREADY!!! My time between playing is getting longer and longer, the items in storage and in my apt are getting thinner and thinner, and my ire at bots in bot valley (and I don't mean the drones) is getting higher and higher. With all this, the lower and lower returns are getting harder to justify.

Now..we've had "summer slumps" before. But before, I was still able to keep my Oplao amped with an A105 full of bullets;). I rationalized going from non-depositing to depositing what I would normally pay for a monthy game-service...and then doubling it ($30 USD), but that will barely cover a weekend unless I get lucky with globals(and you need a FEW to break even now) or and esi drops, or a minor TP chip (but there is no safe zone now, so...pfff).

I won't go back to fisting snables. I am close to unlocking coolness, but I can't get very far with the returns I have now. Not a whine. This is a fact.

I'm not bored at all. I have many things to do.

now, that said, I tend to ignore much of the stuff other people find impeding their game. whilst this does limit my advancement, it doesn't break me. being broken would certainly result in boredom.

so, I have long since given up on any top-end equipment and skill levels. I don't really need those things; and, as a result, I stay happy.

Ummm...you know that "event" has come and gone, right? ;)

i thought it had, but then i realised that i could still obtain the luster by changing my strategy. i've almost finished selling everything off, and im going to start playing again as a non depositor. that is the biggest challenge of the game imo. especially at this time.

the game has been boring for years.

its the same shit over and over... click, click, click, loot - wait for good feeling...

this game is a pointless slot machine... I still play because I am a gambler and most other games seem pointless if you cant WIN some real money doing the action.

:confused::confused:

I was thinkin a couple of weeks ago about the time ive spent in EU (almost a year:yay:) and how the "fun factor" has seemingly vanished. Then I realised that part of the fun for me was meeting fellow noobs near PA and gathering all the TP's aswell as blowing the odd mob up. I guess it's part of the learning process of EU in that eventually everyone at some point will realise this isn't a game and have to adopt the "same shit different day" attitude. One thing i do remember is whilst researching PE there seemed to be regular events such as the huge trox, LG's and the robot attack. And TBH i havent really seen any lasting events here that i can remember taking part in except the Eomon migration. So yeah I do agree with points made above but im not going to complain about it for i'm an optomist and hope things will change for the better :cowboy:

OMFG that's like my longest ever post :D

its the skill nerf that has done it imho, gaining skills was a good thing to do and a target you could get too (as you set them yourself) now MA has made skilling impossible, the game losses a very important element

All reasons the same for me.

Looking into an idea of getting a nice jetski for myself, instead of keeping playing EU.

Funny... I just took my summer deposit allowance and spent it on a new motorcycle for the summer.... I am sure living in Seattle (with the rain) that I will still have time to play EU, but at least I can sell the bike later and have some money (value) left from it.

Can't say the same for EU so much. LOL

IMO MA takes the "its not a game" part to serious.

yep
I think MA is doing a big mistake:
from average good loot, rare and small hofs/ath, to average crappy loot and more and bigger hofs/ath (this is where the "bored" feeling comes from)... they are counting on the gambler kinda player... they are also counting on the addictive nature of the game... but who are the players? high school kids, college guys, some office workers with computer skills, some scientists, some programmers... all of them could afford 200-300 usd/month for their hobby...
but where are the gamblers here???
no gamblers, this is the problem.. no big fat wallet bussinesman, sportsman, actor... not too many las vegas kinda guys here...
they changed the system, yes, and the game is not a game anymore, yes... this is why it is boring for many of us...

kind of a sad outcome if you check the poll results..
MA should see this one,..

sometimes Pe or is it EU nowdays that is very boring... i have been onoff-player since 2003. couple first years online daily then i was ready to delete pe from my computer forever.. then i came back and played almoust 24/7 for year and after that sold moust of my skills.. then bought back my skill and sold again... but yep i'm still lurking here... :smoke:

but anyway... since 2003 i have heard that PE sucks and it's boring and this is worst game in whole world, and still i see those same persons playing sometimes... :scratch2:

i hate this boring and frustrating game... but still i can't live without it :dunno:

Events...solvable mysteries...storyline. If EU had that, I'd wander back from that other big game (yknow, the fantasy one). Sure, I like gambling/playing, but that gets old. I look around Entropia, and I see the abandoned products of possible story: NPCs that don't say anything, places that just don't matter...it just feels half-finished.

If they could bring together some quests that would help you increase your skills (MA would benefit from the dmg costs, among other things), or other events that tie-in to a larger narrative, then what a game that would be! You want people to play, MA? Make EU more like a soap opera/serial drama (think "Lost"), and less like a poker marathon. Keep em coming back day after day, week after week.

I haven't really played in close to a year, although I do check the boards to see if anything major is happening to draw me back.

Sighhhh....not yet. :(

Ummm...you know that "event" has come and gone, right? ;)

Has it! I hate being on forced retirement due to pc problems, i usually find that i miss out on all the fun events :sigh:

Yeah, it came the same day the notice was posted. It was a little event to get the new rocket and grenade launchers out into the public and also to show us some cool new armor sets.

Oh right the RX unit event, i really should pay more attention to the EU main website and EF lol

Kinda because I cant deposit and the cost of everything is just to high and cant see myself depositing just to buy something that is overated in price.:(

EU has its moments. Sometimes its so fun its hard to believe its the same EU I sign into day in and day out. Other times the grind gets a bit dull the loots get so repetitive that you can almost predict what you will get even when you global or HOF.

Attempts at being a resource supplier are met with some big walls whether it be general loot or lack of claims.

I tend to let my imagination roam with EU and when someone like Anshe asks for input about bank design I toss it about for days thinking what would look good will they allow a free form design etc etc. I usually end up making some concept sketches and writing down my ideas even if it never sees the light of day. Lately I have been getting more enjoyment out of such things than grinding through the same ole same ole in loots.

I don't expect MA to entertain me via events(like bots, trox queen, feff raid....ahhh the egg) all the time but it would be nice to wrap up story lines or think of new ones which keep us all on our toes. A sustained ongoing roaming bot spawn attacking and pillaging would be interesting and maybe allow access to Warlocks and high level SEG loot.

Just my own personal opinion I think (L) in hunting loot seems to have brought on much of the boredom in my opinion. While its nice to see an item in a loot window, having a big fat (L) slapped on it makes it very anticlimatic. There used to be goals to strive for whether it be skill based or loot based and it used to be achieveable or within sight. These days its all luck of the loot server so "ya spins ya wheel and takes ya chances!".

I am a firm believer if you give people a rough path to follow with incentives along the way they will continue to follow that path. Now it seems like we are all :scratch2: not knowing which way to go. Should I sell my skills and start over? should I chip up to Killstrike? Should I buy that adj, imp, mod item? Should I adopt the (L)? Should I hunt Hogglos or Snablesnots? gee the snots seem to get more uber hofs as of late  Should I pay 7k for an ore finder just to finally find ruga only to have it run out of tt value before it pays me back? Maybe I should buy and OLA and jump on the investor band wagon................hmmmm the list can go on and on. There used to be clearly defined reasons for upgrading and skilling up these days its all turned a little blurry and made things a little more boring.

Don't get me wrong though when things just are not going my way in EU I sign off and hit the drawing table and think up some cool sh#t I would like to see in the EU. If I can't loot it I can sure draw it lol ;)

Show us some of your drawings Sirhc.:)

Booooooooooriiing

Taking the risk of being called a whiner, my personal views is that
bad loots, snail like skilling, and the overall feeling of "been there, done that.." makes me starting to think it's simply not worth feeding the
machine any more $ atm.
Now i just deposit a very small amount on occasion and even those are getting further apart.

Can't say i've totaly given EU up, i'm biding my time, awaiting something...i dunno what, but something to put the spark back in the game and making it worth while again.

You asked, i answered, just my :twocents:

I just started playing after being away for some time.

MA nerfes to much it takes the fun away. I was on a team hunt with some soc mates, it was nice but loots were so low i got a return of 25% with one lil global. And then you see a few happy guys looting a 10K hof on some noob mob. i don`t understand the casino lootpool it is destroying any chance of capitalistion for players.

Loot is to unpredictable and skills go to slow. Equip is to expensive except for the low end stuff. I wont sell out again but it ain´t a happy time inside the EU. No real upgrades is dune to the GAME since i dunno how long.

The fun events like Landgrab are postponned, drone wars is still a mythe sometime awoken by some spawns of drones so know and then.

Still the game hold some of the best gameplay but attention from MA is to much pointed towards earning money and trying to improve their lifestyle instead of improving ours.

Interesting results so far...

currently after 104 votes, 64% of participants indicate that they are bored with the EU.

Only 10% say they could never get bored and the other 26% indicate that while not bored yet, they see themselves potentially getting bored at sometime.

MA, I hope someone there is paying attention. The EU is supposed to be about FUN and the RCE. Focusing solely on the RCE without the playerbase that comes for fun is a recipie for failure in my honest opinion.

(and FUN is not an acronym for "Frack Urself Noobie" although it often seems that way.)
