My suggestion is that when, for example, you drop a plate over an armor part that already has a plate the old one is unequiped an the new one is equiped on that part. The same mechanism, although less useful, could be applied to weapon attachments (amps, scopes), mining attachments (amps) and probably more things, as long as the attachment is valid for that item (but you already do that check).
This should be very easy to implement, and a cool Quality of Life improvement. This would cut in half the number of clicks needed to swap attachments, and it has no drawbacks that I can think of. Also doesn't affect any other action.
Or at the very least consider it for when UE5 comes.
