Casino denies 8 million jackpot

I remember when that happened in Entropia after a major mining update.

not the first time that type of thing has happened, nor probably the last...

Patron won 185 credits, or $1.85, while playing a penny slot machine at a Casino. However, at the same time, a message appeared on the screen stating, “Bonus Award - $41797550.16.” The Casino refused to pay the alleged bonus, claiming that the slot machine game malfunctioned, and therefore, the bonus award displayed on the screen was not valid. The Patron filed suit against the Casino, asserting breach of contract, estoppel, and consumer fraud. The district court granted summary judgment to the Casino on all three counts. The Supreme Court affirmed, holding (1) the rules of the game formed a contract between the Patron and the Casino, and the Patron was not entitled to the bonus under those rules; (2) the Patron failed to prove the necessary elements of either promissory or equitable estoppel; and (3) the Patron failed to present proof of an ascertainable loss sufficient to warrant recovery on her consumer fraud claim.

Sounds like the patron needed a better attorney. That case should've never seen a courtroom.. probably could have settled it for much less, but at least she would've got something.

When slot machines malfunction, the casino won't pay out. Usually a sign on or near slot mschines that says as much.

It's not common but happens. Casino has to prove the malfunction though. So she should sue anyway. If that happened to me, I would demand explanations. It's likely that slot didn't even have a chance at paying out 8 mil.

Wow I feel let down just reading this story.
I couldn't imagine the frustration she must have felt.

Almost sounds like to me they just didn't expect anyone to win the 8 mil so decided to claim it malfunctioned.
Hmm So many theories I guess. :(

Well, it's possible that that machine shouldn't even be giving an amount like that so they were sure that it was just a malfunction. And aren't those audited?
