I have a few questions, for those who purchased CLD's;

1. How many CLD do you own?
2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? For what reason?
3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Why do you think that is?
4. What do you spend your CLD payments on?
5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how?
6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this?

To those who take the time to answer these questions; THANKS!

I am asking these questions out of my own curiousity and to further a discussion we've been having (privately) with regards to the affect CLD's have had on gameplay in EU. It may also spur some interesting conversation in the thread.

1) Now zero but I did have 62.

2) I sold all my CLD's and withdrew, to pay debts incurred buying them in the first place. Although I did benefit from 10K ped dividend over the year, and profited on the sale on my deeds (capital gain), by a further 12K peds approx.

3) In the period I owned them (about a year), I hunted a lot harder with the CLD income as well as still depositing. I had some lovely loots during 2012, although I put that down to the amount I deposited to buy CLD's, and the ped input turnover, and not so much luck.

4) I spent the dividends on skilling hard-core.

5) Now I don't own CLD's I am concerned that MA might make it the "norm" to own them. In other words it could be too expensive to play if you don't invest $5K+ for CLD income. I hope that will NOT be the case, otherwise I feel it will have a negative effect on activity long term. MA said they have addressed the costs to play, so you would thnk CLD income is a little extra for those that own them.

6) I think if players use CLD income to develop their avatars faster, then there will be little effect on the universe. If players intend to play "just from CLD income", then MA have made short term gain from the initial CLD sale, and will need to find new income streams from elsewhere. If they then decide to push depositing players too hard as thier answer, then we could well move backwards again.

There is much on this subject already in the CLD section of the forum. My heart hopes that CLD income will not have a serious effect on game, my business head says it undoubtably will. Therefore MA needs a growing band of new blood.

But here's the irony, by being a CLD owner you have responsibilites to yourself to protect your own investment. So if CLD income falls significantly CLD owners have two options. Let their investment fail, or deposit to prop up thier investment. That is part I find most amusing.

Who knows its a love hate relationship...lol, and one continuous giant experiment. MA must love playing God, the amazing power they have over their pets (us).

1. How many CLD do you own?
25

2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? For what reason?
I try to buy 1 every month, I stopped during Xmas and the dibs trouble, but re-started in jan.

3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Why do you think that is?
I deposit way more, I used to play as non-depositor. I now deposit monthly to buy CLD. Why? because its the only way in EU I could find to still have "something" to show for my deposits. Any previous deposits just cycled away to nothingness.

4. What do you spend your CLD payments on?
Playing EU, really playing it. Currently I mine and craft mining tools and amps (on a very very small scale). my cld returns also allow me to skill Rk-5 (crafting skill) and hut cosmic horrors with a entropiatransport.com mother ship. However my goal is always, to get more clds.

5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how?
Absolutely I went from a withdrawing non depositing sweater, to a 100-200usd a month depositor, and it happened because of CLDs.

6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this?
I think its positive, I think its another RCE "industry" first for EU. I think it helps lower budget players (even sweaters!) invest in their avatar in a way that brings "instant" ped returns. My only fear is that the housing/voting system somehow breaks the cld magic. (hopefully houses happen long after taming)

1. How many CLD do you own?19

2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? Maybe if HOF:). For what reason? Income to use in game

3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Less Why do you think that is? Have not been as active in game have had a break. Did depo yesterday to put towards a L gun.

4. What do you spend your CLD payments on? Ammo repairs etc. Profession hunter.

5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how? Same play style. Hunt mid/low mobs in the hope of having decent returns so can carry on hunting. Ideally 150 ped loss to be depod weekly with approx 50 ped from deeds.(Am happy to depo this amount every week)

6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this? Probably a positive effect I have always wanted to have a passive income in game and a LA is way out of reach for most people.

1. 0. (had about 25)

2. No, don't think i will ever buy anymore.

3. I deposit less, Lost a lot of faith in MA after the CLD crap and they still seem to be feeding them into the community, i thought they were meant to be all sold a long time ago but still selling them...

4. Some of the PED i accumulated when i had them i put the PED towards Merry Mayhem armour, the CLD's i sold when the price went up and bought a Genesis Dragons Breath.

5. MA has seen the up heave of all the CLD era and i think they will just make something else that will overcome CLD's and they will devalue a lot and draw peoples attention to whatever else they create.

6. CLD had a negative effect as a lot less people are out participating in the way EU was created for and just sit around trying to buy more CLD's

also MA just seem to create event after event these days, do they ever stop.... it would be good if there was some creative story behind the events but always seem to be some crap just to get ppl out pumping shed loads of ped...

2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? For what reason?

To continue to have some steady income from entropia. I plan to sell my Clds in 2 years to pay as much of my student loans off as possible as I graduate Law School. Since I dont start payments on my loans I thought it would be ok to bank on the revenue until the payments start. -note- I have transferred most of my equity that i built in eu to clds... i did not deposit money that should have been going to tuition.

3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Why do you think that is?

My last Deposit was Nov 2011. Then I bought a ton of clds and have yet to deposit again.

4. What do you spend your CLD payments on?

I use it to pay my power bill and water bill. But really it could go to rent .. idk just utilities and living in general.

5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how?

Yes it has, I was a healer with my adj fap and clds only for a long time. It let me buid my ped flow up and I was really happy how I was making some money finally and not loosing it as before. I sold my fap tho and did withdraw that money to pay for my last semester for undergrad. I also have no more in game goals. I have stopped playing completely and will not decay anymore. I just collect my revenue and log in to chat with friends now.

6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this?

Positive,

Mind Ark got 6,000,000 dollars... I'm not an economics major, but a company getting that kind of money in their pocket can be huge for a small company like mindark. They were able to give themselves a lot of rope... and hopefully they don't hang themselves with it. I hope they make a nice rope bridge and further extend thier little network to another rockface. Its not even a "loan" as the only payback they give for that 6 million is their own success. Its a big win for MA. I see it like owning stock in calypso .. and my stock went up 30% since I bought those shares!

I also was going to quit in Novermber 2011. If it wasn't for CLDS I would not be here now.

0, The one I got crafting was donated to the museum

2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? For what reason?
Most likely yes, I would like to see what comes about politically and building (crafting your own hopefully) land plot.

Some ideas came to me in this in how it can be done:

3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Why do you think that is?
Same, 10k ped pe rmonth, it is my usual entertainment budget for this game.

4. What do you spend your CLD payments on?
n/a none yet, though I would use them the same way as I use my PED now :) Sponsorship, crafting, hunting, mining and having fun :)

5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how?
no

6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this?
Postive and negative effects ...

Negative - Some deposit less and play less due to waiting for income from them, hence why we see a gradual decrease in the CLD return rate when events do not bolster activity to increase the income.

Positive - MA now have more liquidity to continue development, even though they have to be one of the slowest development companies in history - Probably due to disorganisation and no real ISO-9000/1/2 standards in their workflow process.

2) Looted both. Hope to loot more. No interest in buying any.
3) CLDs have had no effect on my deposits.
4) Haven't spent any. No idea how much is even there.
5) Nope.
6) I do not have enough information to formulate a valid response to that question.

You are welcome.

  1. 49 currently
  2. Yes. I don't like odd numbers.
  3. Same. I don't get to play much these days as SFE and RL keeps my way too busy, but I do still deposit for various things over time.
  4. My armour collection, weapons and various other things.
  5. Nope, not one iota.
  6. Haven't decided yet...

Can't say I provided much info but for what it is worth, you're welcome. :D

1. 0
2. I wont buy any CLD's, overpriced.
3. Same or less
4. -
5. -
6. Well positive probably, it saved the game from bankrupcy i think. Long term its probably bad. If MA manage to drag around 20k active players to the game it will have positive effect :)

2. No, I am broke
3. Less, but when the CLD came, I deposited more than I otherwise would have for... ten years or so.
4. I play the game
5. Yes, I am more relaxed
6. To early to say

2) yes. More moolah. It's the only permanent investment thats all profit and within the reach of the average Joe.

3) Right now, same. Iv only invested about $200 total since I started, but if I can afford it ill def deposit more to buy more clds

4) I'm still waiting on my first payout. I plan to use the income to finance my hunting operations, giving me more freedom to
Experiment without actually losing anything.

5) positive. I'm not a business expert, but as I understand from reading the item description of the cd, and other forums, the
Payout for all clds is percentage of the planets cashflow. One forum even said that %50 of the PED flow profits stay with MA, while the other half is divided umong the 60000 deed owners, with a cufrrent payoff of just over 4 pfed per week. So, really, it
Sounds like a casino. The house always wins. EU has been around over a decad e now and I'm sure they're not about to lose
Everything over one descision. They would have closed up years ago if they didn't have a good business sense. Not to mentions the $6000000 MA made from initial sales of the clds. I don't think the company has anything to worry about. As for the players, it just means a new dimension of play. Yes, this will affect the market, but a lot of things do, and I think the promise of an average Joe making a steady income off of a computer game will attract more players, which means more money. The game already has this rep, ill admit its what got me, but with clds, its another opportunity. A very direct one. I'll take as many as I can get.

In conclusion, I think clds fit very well into EU. I have no idea how the political/voting thing works, but as far as PED goes, the average EU player has nothing to fear, and something awesome to gain.

1. Lot enough :)
2. Yes. reason ? weekly payouts ofc !
3. Same
4. On buying more new deeds
5. Doing less regular hunt.mine /craft activities
6. Positive, as some cash had to be deposited into game to buy them.

1. How many CLD do you own?

2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? For what reason?

No short-term plans to buy any more. I don't make long-term plans in EU, it's too dynamic :D

3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Why do you think that is?

The same I guess. I hadn't deposited for years prior to CLDs coming out, deposited to buy CLDs, haven't deposited since.

4. What do you spend your CLD payments on?

Currently I'm using the payments to buy a decent UL armour set. It's mixed with Angel/Mayhem/Martial/ImpVigi pieces at the moment. I'm missing Helmet and Gloves, which seem to be appear on auction less than the others. I might improve on the Imp Vigi thighs at some point too.

After I have the armour set, I'll decide whether to save up to buy something else (adj fap, UL gun or evade/HP skills are the likely options), or withdraw the income, or even sell the CLD. Depends how I'm feeling about EU and whether I see any point in further developing my avatar when that time comes I guess.

5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how?

Not really. I've tried to keep CLD income separate from my playing bankroll, so it hasn't affected my approach. Having the bigger armour gives me more options, or rather reduces the need for high MU L armours for those options.

6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this?

Positive.

Players investing in EU is good for EU. While the return rate is very high, bringing concerns about whether it is sustainable for MA in the long-run, historically investments like CND and TI have also been high return and MA seem to survive it. In the case of CLD, I think a lot of the returns will likely not be withdrawn and will translate into higher ped cycling by those who hold them.

I think CLDs also will prove to have a stabilising impact on the EU market too. When someone thinks about spending 500k PED on a land area or a Mod Fap, they will also be thinking about how much income 500 CLDs would be bringing them. Similarly with smaller items. It'll (and has already imo) start pushing some ridiculously priced items back down to a more realistic level.

1. How many CLD do you own?
27 (was 30, sold 3 to fund Mayhem)

2. Do you intend on buying more CLD in the future? For what reason?
Yes. Want to buy back the 3 I sold. Wouldn't rule out buying more after that.

3. Do you deposit more, less or same as you did prior to CLD's? Why do you think that is?
Same. (for gameplay. More if you count the extra depos to buy the CLDs)

4. What do you spend your CLD payments on?
Last years was blown on Mayhem. Haven't spent any of this years yet.

5. Has the advent of CLD's affected your play-style and/or your in-game goals? If so, how?
No.

6. Do you believe CLD's have had a positive or a negative effect on the Entropia Universe? Why do you believe this?
Possitive. The possible downside of reduced deposits does not seem to be as bad as some have been predicting. I believe the benefits of giving players opportunity to buy into Calypso and share in its potential success outweighs the negatives.

1. 100+
2. Yes. Always shifting how many I've got, always increasing.
3. More. Prior to CLDs I was non depositor. I deposited $9k to buy CLDs, and then randomly decided to put in $20 one day for a quick bit of ped. I'm now open minded to depositing whenever I want ped.
4. I take my CLD payments and cycle them through the system by hunting. I continue to buy CLDs up until it's time to deploy (I deploy about 1-2 times/year), then I do a predeployment sale and withdraw (which may include some CLDs), come back and repeat the cycle.
5. Yes. Significantly. Pre-CLDs I was a stickler for eco, and doing micro math to make sure I always got my fair share during team hunts. I had numeric systems to calculate how much to tip a fapper. Now I don't care about eco, pew pew for fun, let the team split how they see fair, and tip generously. In other words I'm pretty much a baller.
6. Positive. More peds being cycled back into the system is a good thing. I think most CLD owners are players who actively play, and CLDs just help return some of their losses.
