MMORPG Interview with MindArk CEO David Simmonds

Still interesting to read how many people expect to quit their real life grind to do a virtual grind as a job... LOL @ all of you.

Considering there is not a single post in this thread where someone said something like 'quit their real life grind to do a virtual grind as a job' this is quite an odd post.

There are plenty of people who make a few hundred dollar a month out of the game, obviously only a handfull of people makes a RL living from it.
I am personally not interested in withdrawing and always spend my profits ingame, but i can easy see how it is possible (the making a few hundred bucks a month part).

Only way to make a game a job is to actually invest and work your ass off as it is a job not by playing and grinding as a past time. If you don't want to work on the game, play the game but it costs to play though, just MHO

But no one has mentioned quitting their job? My withdrawals, i couldnt live off them, but they help pay for groceries occassionally, which is fine by me. (and of course the odd beer at the pub ;) )

There are very few who could earn a rl "quit job" income. But they are the obvious ones.

Unless of course you are not talking about this thread?

PS I am surprised i havent been called a fanboy. I remember a time, when i use to tell people about 90% returns and go for markup. Telling them that their 20% tt return was utter tosh, and i was called a fanboy. So i am surprised the gamblers annoymous arent shouting their heads of and calling me a fanboy here :)

Guys I was talking in general with comments from the interview etc. 10K loss's etc... and other threads I have read. this was kind of a more general scope topic, SORRY if I offended you because I never focused just on the 3 pages of comments already here geesh. picky people...

MA officials... and espicaly the marketing staff.......
PLEASE READ the comments on that web site in response to this interview.
You can see what the broader community thinks about this game..
the primary concern is money. I never hear anyone say the game is boring, etc... I hear it cost too much. I think this is something that should be looked into and addressed before trying to bring in new people.
Just my 2 pecs...
thanks for posting the interview.
any press is good press, as they say!

nice interview, sad responses always the casino and the gambling..

Entropia is cheaper than ever before .. there once was a thread "can you play for 15 euro's a month" . Now you can.

all the freebies we have today, at the gateway free guns, free mining gear, at calypso with all the mission token missions or free skill missions, at rocktropia with the free fap, the free gun, the free bat, at the thing the free clothes, the free weapons (including a flame thrower) the free 4x4 arctic truck, the free combat helicopter, at arkadia a whole new line of free stuff, at next island the free clothes and some other free stuff i dont remember, at ancient greece the free clothes, the free repairable sib longblade.

cheap as hell to play:

the sa pistol /sa rifle from the thing uses 41 ammo
the kiwio mk2 from caly
the new stuff from arkadia??? haven't checked it out yet..

but this game now has a decent low entry level. You can survive a long time if you start playing now and choose a decent mentor.

great points! Getting a mentor and completing a mentorship without spendind a dime (or pec) now seems totally possible. With that you will get a full set of armor (which took me a long time to get) and a car that does't use gas!
Thanks for reminding me of things that I tend to overlook.

I started in late 2005, attracted by the 'no download fees and no monthly subscriptions' thingy and spent my first weeks simply exploring. That was weeks of fun and excitement.. for free.

And after six years i still can only say MindArk delivered what they promised, certainly nothing less.

Yes this is the same thing I liked. Altough I spend waaaay more in this game then I would in games where you pay a monthly fee, I didn't like the fact That I had to "commit" to playing. In EU I can walk away for a week or whatever and not think about it because i never payed a monthly fee.

sorry this is my like 4th post on this thread... i'll stop now

I had that plan before crisis , and it was back then well doable...

Also , there is many land owner who make nice money...and i know some who make more money in EU with their land , than what they would do by most of normal job.

But hey , even in EU if you want to make money you have to work your ass out.you still need to beat all other player + MA...

I agrea that i would not plan on make a living this days on EU ...
but things may change in future...

I'd really like to see someone from MA, or the partner planets answer one of the REALLY tough questions...

Sure, why not? I mean, the worst that could happen is people on the boards get upset and start creating angry threads. Since that's happening already I think its an opportunity for MA to be a little more fearless in their communications.

Of course, the boards are one thing. Their investors are another. Their lack of communication on certain issues may not be related to the community at all. The investors may be demanding silence.
