I was thinking about the loot issues that are plaguing some professions and came up with a novel solution. Hunters should only have one item to "loot". I am going to use the term loot loosely as the only object that will be lootable will be the corpse container itself.

Basically a hunter would not be interested in what the container contains, but with the container itself. This could most likely create a whole merp-load of other professions, drone salvager, genetic salvager. The way I envision this is for the salvaging profession to have a set amount of time to perform a successful salvage and to be able to select where to commence salvage of a set corpse.

Only the most skilled hunters would be able to use the weapons / tools with the highest killing potential. One could choose to delve into the hunter specialization, grenadier.

Mining would also change, at the top level one would have a prospecting profession which would explore the world, looking for areas that contain high amounts of resources, that information then becomes the tool for the 2nd tier which would harvest the node, after purchasing the location deed from the prospector. Harvesting the node would contain it's own set of challenges. I would also envision a time based mini-game where the player would have to in quick succession click on the ore / entmatter to extract from the node before it collapses.

Locating a resource for exploitation would also change, forget using a single probe to find a resource, one would have to use an array of probes to locate a high enough concentration to warrant the attention of a seasoned miner and bring in the highest returns for the prospector. A low level prospector could use a single probe of course.

I would love to see this game evolve and grow into something more than a perceived casino, where player skill makes a difference not some loot distribution system.

Changing a mob's loot-table drops by equipping a salvaging item?

Well anything that involves clicking is fun :)
But remember there are clicking-macros.

Whatever happened to spirals? and shouldn't they be a part of this new idea?

Long time ago, IIRC even before (L) economy, without going this far, i suggested scavenging profession that would serve as item sink: ok, let hunters loot alot of iteamz, but also let scavengers to disassemble items for parts (and maybe metals such as rugaritz) to create uberer guns etc etc. but i guess, the L economy makes us collectively pay and lose more so its preferable by ma
