Send these things to papers, radio stations and tv news stations?

i know that the most popular radio morning show talkes alot to mikkey dee.

Im pretty sure most news papers would wright alot about LG where players spend thousands of dollars to win land ownership worth tens of thousands.

I bet things like this will attract more people then cry engine.

just a few thoughts.

because it looks like that MA is not interested in advertising Eu before cryengine is out :) i find that wise btw... saves money

I get a feeling that MA is waiting till the new engine is there.

I think MA has for the Cryengine changed their game architecture in a big way to be able to facilitate a way bigger amount of players then then can do now.
We all know that EU has had in the past big performance issues when a lot of people are playing on the same are.

Although i must compliment MA on the spider/eomon LA on amathera. I hunted last saturday evening there and we had half a radar screen literally full of red dots from mobs and the other half of the radar screen full of green dots. Way more then 100 players inside radar range and i was not experiencing any lag at all.

I expect MA or better said all the planet owners to start a huge marketing campaign when the cryengine has arrived.

Cheers

I was fine aswell.
And I play on a dell thats more then 6 years old has 512 ram, gforce 5200.

And yeah Its good that MindArk is waiting.
The less players join now, the more can join then without beeing to dissappointed.

MA have officially stated that they are not actively promoting the game to new participants while they concentrate on marketing the platform to partners!

Mav

When they have updated with the CryEngine and then patched it twice, THAT will be the time to go out and advertise!

With the breakoff of First Planet and many new partners coming down the pipe I expect MA to concentrate more on getting more partners and letting the planet owners take care of promotion to a much greater degreee. Just my guess.

I think that MA is quite happy to "fly under the radar" until they have CE2 fully implemented and can go "Gold" for the second time with all the media stunts they want togeather with their new platform and planets.

That's what i would do if i were MA

but wouldnt it be good if atleast 20 on a million knows about it? get people to start talking... build up expectations.

Thats comendable :yay:

EU is getting near other MMO
At last I start to believe that significant amout of players will be able to participate and have fun different than click click loot style.

I.

It's probably best that they're waiting till the CE2 upgrade to do a large advertising campaign. The retention rate purely after the upgrade will probably be a lot higher than before it, just based on graphics + the other updates and whatnot. All of it equals money saved anywho :)

Mindark does release such news to the press in the form of press releases:

http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Entropia-Universe-916725.html

The link you found is simply a copy of the press release.

They do send this stuff out, that's the whole point of press releases.

The fact is that the mainstream press are not interested. We are just a bunch of gamer geeks with no appeal to the wider public, as far as they are concerned.

I sent out some press releases about England winning the WoF, as did at least one other squad member. The response - zero.

It might be important news to us, but to anyone who doesn't play EU, it's not relevant and therefore not news.

Have u EVER seen MA do anything right ?

I agree with both of you.

When cry2 comes we will see more active adverts to go with FPC and the other planets that are going to enter the game. I think the motorhead event is big, but what is around the corner with cry2 is going to be a even bigger deal, and ma will capitalize on the cry2 engine being introduced to their platform.

I think the waiting for the new engine is good idea also. It should help player retention IMO.

I have now a couple of comments and I don't want anyone in Europe to take offense as it is not meant to offend.

It appears that EU is some what slanted toward Europe. Maybe I am wrong but it seems that most events are around 1800 Calypso, which is late morning to early afternoon in the US. I seem to notice a lot of gbls, hofs and aths around that time also. I am sure that is as it should be because there are more players from Europe on at that time. I have never seen any ads for EU in the US and found it by accident on a Discovery channel special. It was about a 5 minute spot (They did interview NeverDie and that was good) and just touched the surface of the game. Other games got much more time. including Second Life and I have also seen other specials that go into depth about SL and even shows how much money some people are making. I have been an online gamer since WarCraft and I know a ton of gamers and I have yet to find one that has ever heard of Entropia and that is very sad.

The only thing I am saying is US is a huge market. People here have a lot of free time and generally speaking have great internet connections. I know that things are bad all over money wise however in the US there is still a lot of "Playing money" around and MA should try to get some of for us:).

I am not saying that the US is better that anyone else, just saying that I think MA should take a hard look at the US and try to break in here.

Just my thoughts.

But is releasing those news only through Marketwire effective?
Does Terpin do good job?
Has it brought rush of new players?
Are any of those press releases even mildly interesting to the public anymore?
Does a regular gamer give a flying f##k with whom MA is partnering next?
Does MA handle media professionally?

Another virtual world just got tens of thousands new registrants thanks to funny divorce news.
Will we ever see anything similar happen to EU?

i would say no, but we dont know if he wants alot of people to read it... might be a show for the investors.

Marketting

I must say, as a swede, i had never heard of Entropia untill my friends told me about it, sure i dont read _every_ magazine or daily newspaper in the country, but to mee marketting so far has been just about 0 imho.

Im guessing after CE2 is implemented and released (perhaps patched a bit) the marketting will be alot more infocus and perhaps gamers will start to get the word.

On a bit off-topic note, dam i long for CE2 to arrive...

Cheers!

From a mainstream press perspective I would have expected the WoF news to be more appealing than either of those other things.

We had:

- a national 'sporting' victory of a quirky nature
- a tie-in with the failure of England to reach the football World Cup at around the same time
- local interest when team members lived in the area.

All of those tick some boxes for mainstream local press, especially, and gave us a 'hook', though apparently not enough to get the story picked up in this case. On the reverse side, we will always get minus points for being a bunch of nerdy gamers :D

I can't see how Landgrab could ever be considered interesting news to mainstream media. Possibly the local interest angle could be used for local press. But it really doesn't have any hook.

Treasure Island and CND made the mainstream media, to an extent, and I would guess the big hook there, for the media, would be the fact that they set quirky world records.

Games-specific media is a different matter, of course, and perhaps the Motorhead event could be picked up for a quickie piece in a music publication. Specialist media is always going to be MA's best chance of getting good PR opportunities in most cases.
