I actually only saw this today after following a link on Sky News to the video. I cried yes, tears of joy for that special lady who was no doubt singing a song about her life, how life had killed her dream. The world we live in does judge the book by the cover sadly, and it was deeply satisfying to see all those 'pretty' faces have their closed eyes and hearts blasted open, even if only for a short while. What a voice!!
I went and read a bit more about the lady herself, not employed but doing community work for the church, visiting the elderly and those in hospital, and caring for her elderly mother until her death a couple of years ago. No chance in her past because of her appearance to have a partner, a 'normal' life or the chance to be what she was clearly meant to be, a singer, a star, someone who just wants to 'make people happy'. I found her inspirational, and it was one of those very rare moments when the 'underdog' wins and makes us all (well most of us anyway) take stock and ask ourselves a few things about how and who we are to others.
I fully plan to watch that clip over and over again, everytime I am feeling down on myself, not good enough, not rich enough, pretty enough, young enough, uber enough, special enough. The cover may be shite, but the cover can be fixed up and it is the story inside that counts, if you are an ass there is not much you can do about that though, or is there?
