One decent run is followed by a bunch of horrible runs, how predictable.

I'm confused with the first two posts. Why did you stop updating the first one half way through and change the second one instead?

Laziness mostly :p

I should probably update the first post and remove the redundant information from it.

Edit: cleaned up a bit

And I'm done with drones, I'll do the math later.

Totalled up my skill gains for the drone runs. Seems to be similar to the merp, where SIB only gave a 10-15% increase in skill gains for the profession, where late SIB gave more skills than early SIB. But this time, even early SIB gave more skills than non-SIB.

I guess we can say that the effect of SIB for weapons is there, though it is minimal, and probably more intelligent to take the higher economy of a maxed weapon over the small gains seen by using a weapon that is still in SIB.

What I would like to further test is whether the effect of increased skill gains continues after SIB for an amount of time, and would like to test the skill gains given by using a weapon that is significantly outside of SIB.

This time you actually proved something! The SIB gains were significantly higher than non-SIB gains at the 95% confidence level.

Your results of a 12% improvement in skill gains is quite similar to a much smaller test I did 2-3 years ago with someone who had just maxed opalo. I had him alternate (relatively short) runs with CB5 which had active SIB and the maxed opalo. CB5 gave around 10% more skills.

Sorry, Oleg, no more fairies in the flowers :D

According to my experience, here is the strategy using SIB weapons:

- uses it when you max at least 85~90% on both Damage and Hit on that weapon, OR you max the Damage and has 0.7 in HIT. Therefore you can take the full advantage of SIB to gain more skill with better cost.

SIB of course has effect, there is no need to have the experiment to test whether it works or not. You should consider the test to see how good it is. But as an experienced hunter, I can tell you that SIB weapons help a lot when you are @ low level, lower than 45.

Sure it needed to be tested. A 10% improvement is hardly huge, and it's easy to deceive ourselves when we think something should cause improvement. And even that 10% improvement depends on how you hunt. If you hunt for optimal skillgains to begin with (lots of kills on smaller mobs) the effect is much smaller.

I always used that same rule of thumb for when to use SIB. Now I see it wasn't totally nuts :)
