Help: Need official MindArk forums!

Dear MindArk,

Please take your responsibility like most other MMO companies, and start providing proper, official, ad-free, virus-free forums. I suggest sub-forums for each planet partner, too - so you only need one logon as a participant, to find info about each planet at the same EntropiaUniverse.com forum.

Not every player wants to visit EF with ads and the associated virus risk. :ahh:
 
Sorry but I just dont see that that is going to happen, not while they have this one run, moderated and paid for by someone else....

I do think that it's a little odd they haven't bothered setting up official forums, but I like EF because it's player-run. And the only ads we have here are player-made.

Maybe if EF didn't exist, we'd need a MA forum, but what could an MA forum do for us that EF can't?

Not trying to shoot this down, I just am curious.

Send a support ticket. I did... got the usual old, cut and paste response "this has been forwarded to the correct Dept." etc.

How about no virus... not trojan horse... more confidentiality - I'm pretty sure 711 does not read other people's private PM's here, but since it's his forum, on his server, he could do whatever the heck he wanted to at any time.... They could also do special little forum games that result in payments in actual peds, etc. instead of EFD which then needs to later be exchanged for ped... could even maybe do real forum auctions that result in real in game exchanges of items?!? Lots of possibilities. They could create an entire web portal instead of a small little bunch of web pages they have now.
 
firefox + adblock + noscript = ad/virus free EF

Problem solved and then you can surf safe on other sites too.

If you're at risk of infection, it is your own fault for not being protected, you cannot blame EF for your own shortcomings.

Long ago, before EF, I thought there was an MA forum....I wasn't around then, but think that's what I was told by some veterans.

Some of the problems with it are...

It is player owned.. any problems associated with that player will be deleted.
Any problems or accusations about the soc said owner is in will be deleted.
Anything said owner disagrees with can be deleted etc

But then it is his forum so he can do as he pleases :)
 
This forum has been treated by MA then FPC as their official forum for ages.

Yes, MA used to have their own, but they could not keep up with it apparently, so they closed it.

Then there was a lull, with the odd interaction on entropia-pioneers then along came entropiaforum.

It became their main means of contact with their players, and has remained so.

I have no major issues with that as long as the people concerned are up-front about it.

Yes, FPC are now getting more organised in their blog, entropiagateway and the hiring of Skam as a public person for them. So FPC are heading in the right direction, but still no official forum other than EF.
But you have to speak and type English to use this. If you cant then they dont want to know. You get some instructions and info in other languages, but you cant interact with them in a public forum if you dont speak English.

The fact remains, they interact with people and parse information ion here that is not available anywhere else. But they are getting better at this and using their blog. But the blog is hardly a forum for them to interact with their customers.

Will be interesting to see what the other Big Land Area's do. The Rocktropia one has its own forum and I suspect the others will as well when they arrive.

Why not FPC ?

Probably an easy answer to that one. They have EF.

Which by default makes the owner of this forum a member of the FPC Team. Time for him to delete his Avi as Skam has done to join the crew LOL

And I have nothing against the owner of this forum etc, but I do have issues with MA/FPC's double standards and duality.

There was a forum ages ago, but they removed that soon after beta i think.

Yes, there was one.

Each planet partner should have their own forum, but I doubt FPC would do such a thing :(.
 
There wouldn't be much use for an official MA forum because the mods would delete everything :laugh:


I wonder how much if any this forum gets in compensation from MA?

I don't care if MA treat EF as official forums. A game like this needs official forums run by the same company - not a 3rd party compromise solution. My opinion obviously - to each his/her own one.

Think ahead, if we have 5 planets some day, will we need to visit 5 different forums then?

Kudos to ND for at least providing a forum for his planet!

Yes, we can blame a forum administrator for using buggy ad software that allows users to upload virii and trojans, especially since it's been done twice in about the span of a month! Firefox is not the all powerful virus proof thing that some people think it is. Being open source, it lets people see the code, which means security holes do get fixed fast, but it also means that great coders that know what they are doing can make code that will poke a hole right through it like nothing, completely undetected since they took the time to read the source code and know it inside and out... so exploits in firefox might actually take a lot longer to find then in other browsers... just something to think about.

That was back when Marco was the community manager. Perhaps the new blood can bring new life to this idea, and make a forum that will stick around a while.

Completely agree with you there. This place gives 711 a real advantage over others in some ways... hence his ability to sell highly overpriced ME in game in exchange for efd... selling online advertising in exchange for peds basically... if it was anyone else doing that, they'd be called a scammer in no time flat.
 
This is something we the midlongtermplayers(I'm one of those) and the long term players have asked for all the time. MA has a totally different opinion so I doubt that this pledge for an official forum will work.

At least for a while they had the game loader to show public anouncements, that was IMO a big step for MA. But now when then have the new Tab oriented game loader we will miss a lot of public information. There MUST imo be a way for the planet partner where your logged in to tell you whats up. Maybe the loader could keep track of your last login and provid you with information regarding your present location (planet)?
 
As long as EF is here and doing the job well I don't think MA see any need to have their own forums to compete with EF. It would just mean more duplication. I like EF and I think it fulfills the wished-for function well enough.

all i know is if EF has one more virus scare, three strikes your out....
 
I use IE & AVG Free, which I've been told a few times is piss poor protection, yet I've never had any problems. It has blocked many attacks from dodgy warez/torrent/porn sites, but nothing has ever popped up from EF.
As far as I know the recent issue with the ad software has been the only problem in the 4 years I've been here, and I was not affected by it.
Who's to say any official forum would be completely safe anyway?
I'm sure the majority of you reguarly visit sites far more dangerous than EF.
 
Virus was not the main point in OP but tbh EF is the only site I visit regularly that has given virus warnings. They never got past my protection though.
 
Wait .. we first bitch because EF isnt that free as we want it to be (not that i have that feeling) , then we bitch we need official Forums where everything is modded by officials employees ...

And all because poor 711 place a banner system which got hacked beyond his power. Let 711 get a few bucks to keep this forum running.
 
This has been bugging me before either of the virus incidents - from my day one in EU.
