FYI: Not a Game...

Sadly yes, here a few years later and I still have not learned my lesson. Recent activity statements now put my Depo history well over 180K USD.. and yet, I still allow myself to be sodomised profusely.... and i don't even get a money shot.. all I get is a big "spit" on my back...:scratch2:

Seriously ... how can i be the game's fault when someone focus purely on getting that BIG ATH and thanks to gambling addiction just keeps betting more the more they loose .

It's not the game's fault. It's MindArk's fault. They advertised their product as a "service". This service has relentlessly fueled an innocent man's gambling addiction because he was told by the company that this was NOT gambling but instead was a video game service. If this individual keeps going the way he's going the addiction may escalate as he searches for his "first high" (or in this case All Time High). He COULD potentially lose everything... his personal RL belongings, family, friends, etc.

You know.... if MindArk was based in the U.S. or Canada this "service" would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Then again.... this "service" would be considered gambling in the U.S. or Canada (And would have to abide by gaming lawas) HENCE the reason why Americans are supposed to pay taxes on any income from Entropia as they would "gambling winnings".

Simple case of MindArk taking advantage of those with a gambling addiction.

180K...dude...you could have bought TI...or CP...or a smaller LA for that matter.

Shocking...

Rick,

I just want to say that after having put a couple thousand dollars in myself over the last four years, I really, really think you are spending way too much money on the game, with the slight exception that you may be someone who earns hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in salary. If you are such a person, then leisure practices aren't really an issue and you probably can't spend enough to hurt yourself.

But if you make a modest living, and don't really have $32,000 USD a year to drop in the game, or are cutting back the rest of your life in order to depo, I really think it's time to get some help and talk to someone about your issues.

MindArk isn't going to stop you. Like any other vice they are just going to patiently let you bleed yourself dry, and plan on replacing you with other players once you're gone. Look at everything they do to expand the system, bring on more planets, and bring even more new players in. And it's all the same thing in terms of gameplay... click click click swirlie. Click click click swirlie. Click click click click click click click click click click click...

Read about B.F. Skinner and his works. Read about Pavlov and Pavlov's Dog. Read about casino technology in general. Please, for your own sake, do what you need to to cash out of the game and go get some professional advice.

Really an eye-opening situation for us all, and I hope you can find the assistance you need. If I'm out of line, then I apologize. But reading your comments really mae an impact on me. So I hope you don't mind the response.

Sincerely,
Kub

hopefully some armour or something too

i have an idea that is both simple and foolproof.

Lets say you spend 1000 dollars a month crafitng stupid items chasing the ATH? and it never comes.

Well... instead why not give me 1000 dollars at the start of the month and i will give you 50%
back in small amounts over the month and if we do this on Teamspeak i will blow a trumpet
and impersonate a crowd (if you were to throw a streamer at yourself i think this would top it off).

That will leave 500 dollars which i put in your ATH pool that I will keep for you for the year, over
the 12 months you would of been getting half your money back then on the 20th of December
each year i will blow a trumpet like a mad man hire 10 people to scream liek crazy on Team Speak
and give you the money i have held for you.. 6000 dollars your 60k ped ATH, just in time for xmas :)

that a guarenteed 50% return per month and 1 60k ATH per year, or if prefered 2 30k hofs per year.

Obviously you will get no skills but they arent doing you much good as it is anyway really are they.

You know it makes sense.

disclaimer: This was said in jest, i hope you change your ways and sort your issues out as they certianly are issues and if you post about it then it muxt be concernign you, first thing i would do is get MA to lower your monthly deposit limit to stop any impule depos, goodluck.

Okay first, it;s his own damn fault, MA never forced him to keep depositing. This blame shifting that people keep doing is just childish. Now granted, this guy has a problem, but he needs to look in the mirror to find who to point the finger at. As long as he keeps trying to blame other people he will not get help. So long as other people agree with him, he will feel reassured that it is MA's fault and he is just a victim.
Oh and in Canada, you have to pay taxes on withdrawn funds from EU, but since in Canada you do not pay income tax on gambling winnings, we can assume that Canada does not consider EU to be gambling. Oh, and unlike in the States, Lawsuits are not a national sport in Canada. :)

False.
You don't have to pay tax on any winnings if you have a seperate primary income. It has nothing to do with the validation of a service as a gambling service. If a Canadian resident who pays taxes to the Canadian IRS does not have a stated primary source of income, said resident is required to pay income tax on gambling winnings in Canada or risk being indicted.
Gambling is gambling whether it's taxed or not. Tax law does not define what gambling is, it simply regulates tax law relating to gambling.
Please try to be informed before stating something as fact, you're warping actuality.

ps: I'm not arguing anything, simply telling you that your assumption is fundamentally flawed.

You should take your own advice because you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Leave the CRA to those of us who know what we are doing.

EDIT: Oh but if you are a welfare bum, then yes, you do need to pay tax on any and all money you recieve, including gambling. Although this also includes money received from begging. Although we all know that money isn't being claimed.

EDIT2: It's not the IRS in Canada, it's the Canada Revenue Agency(CRA) you fucking idiot.

Ok let me set something straight.. I am not whining or moaning or blaming anyone else for my outrageous 'addiction'. Yes, I know I have a serious problem, but my spending on EU has decrease a huge amount over the last 1 1/5 years. And YES I could afford the huge spending spree on a virtual universe, I have some regrets, but in the end whats done is done. I make a very comfortable living as an independant contractor to IT outsourcing companies, although at the moment I am an employee of one such company, thus my spending levels have been curbed.

I don't own any uber items, I don't have what I would call a 'huge' amount of skill, in fact I have started extracting most of my craft skills, again..., and am only concentrating on hunting/mining at the moment. I no longer have the luxury of working from home, so I have very little time to grind on a daily basis. To further clarify things, I am 80% hunter 15% crafter and 5% miner, according to my skill levels.. however I do go on massive hunting grinds when I have a month or two off work , or able to work from home. Those that know me, fappers mostly, are always wondering how its possible for me to get on most occassions less than 30% returns on hunting... Go Figure.. I have even had many friends in a team with me just so that they can see the kind of returns I get.

My theory is, that I have burnt a large amount of peds, not by buying items, but by cycling it into the slot machines, and hunting/mining... and some time I will get a decent hof, item or whatever.. this is what I have always strived for and will continue to do so, whilst skilling up my hunting 80% of the time. I am first and foremost a hunter, although my tracker stats wont show it anymore, I was in the top 20 hunters for hogglo for a long time running, top 10 in crafters prior to 2010, top 5 for crafting OA101, prior to 2010. That is a nice accolade to have, albeit a costly one.

Now to clarify my reasons for posting information, that others would not, is to give all those people who call me all kinds of names under the sun, when I sometimes get pissed of at my returns based on my input into the universe.
Someone once told me the reason why I don't get luck, and get uber items is because I don't burn enough peds like he does... Well mate almost 90% of the deposits I have made into this game has been burnt and cycled.

I am planning to return to a more conservative playing style, and purely concentrate on hunting. I have had several close friends give me some great advice and although I very often stray from said advice (and go click the slots), I am determined to achieve some personal milestones in EU, and I am comfortable to continue depositing conservatively to maintain the traction towards my goals.

Don't ask me what my goals are, if you don't know, well then your not meant to. Only my closest EU friends know where I want go, and how I am going to get there.

Answers to some questions:
The OP was supposed to be informative to the cave trolls, and some mountain trolls.
I am not single, I am married with 2 beautiful kids.
I am not insane.
Whatever I lose in EU, I am comfortable in doing so.. no skin off my back (although the 'Spit' is starting to curdle)
All my life whatever I own, I have earned it with hard work, dedication and perseverance.. I apply the same ideology in EU.(Although i don't own all that much in EU anymore :( )

And YES, my left testicle is dynamic... sometimes I find it sitting further to the right than normal, sometimes... I just don't have a fuggin clue where it is...

Taking it on faith that the numbers are true, staggering really.

If not losing PED is your goal, you're clearly doing something wrong. But if you're just having fun blasting PED away, if you can afford it that's your business. I do agree with Coreyy in that your losses are no-one's fault but your own, but you are not disagreeing with that I don't think.

Whatever I lose in EU, I am comfortable in doing so.. no skin off my back (although the 'Spit' is starting to curdle)

With the figures involved why not buy some LAs or something, then at least you're guaranteed an income stream and some lasting in-game net worth?

I am not insane.

How can you be sure? :silly2:

I suggest that u take 2 month of and only allow yourself to read forum and gather information, NEVER during these 2 months shall you log in to the game. Use these 2 months to think ower what you really want out of this game. Plan what equipment is needed to play that style. Then when you have the plan clear you allow yourself in to the game. The plan shall also include a maximum deposit ammount/month. You should also set up time limits, how much time/day or month are you allowed to plad. Use the 2 months outside game to find something else to use your time on, walking, training, something that makes you feel good and at the same time consumes some of your time.

I find it very strange that you when "working from home" do spend a lot of time in the game. This is NOT working from home, this is LYING to your employer/customer.

I have played 4+ years. first 2 years I was a hunter. Then after VU9 I decided to only craft, so I cafted for a full year only focusing on recycling ped, almost never left Minopolis service house during that year. Then since VU10 until recent I dedicated my play to mining, so a little more than a year of primary mining. I did fool around a bit a NI, RT and Arkadia when they came online but now since space is here I have decided to spend the next year as a Pilot.
