Entropia Chess Game

or perhaps more importantly, how much chess they can afford to play :) Good discussion thread Chrome.

I think the amount of chess any planet partner that wants to foster the native players is somewhat limited.

One other element of the chess game came to mind today while reading a PP announcement on FB etc- cross platform and cross market promotion. Two PP have now created Iphone games before the launch of the actual 'game' on the EU platform. NI did it, and now Cyrene, who is also doing an android game, an art book, a calandar, etc. Personally when NI did it I felt a little peeved, as believe it or not there are still a lot of people (including gamers) who don't own Iphones or choose to play games on them, and I felt offering the back story to a select group like that was a bit of a slap to those who were looking to play the 'real' game when it launched.

The time and money spent on developing those games on those platforms etc in my personal opinion would have been better spent on the main game first. To me it just seems a bit like putting the 'cart before the horse'. Once the planet is off the ground and working well yeah maybe then do that kind of stuff, or have it being developed in the background all the while, but not before you even finish the planet. Curious what others think of this method of gathering new players, as that is what it is, looking to interest those 'casual' facebook type of gamers in hopes they will check out the planet when it is ready.

So far not heard anything of the other PP's planning this, and really hope Arkadia won't do so until at least after the planet is launched and working, at least then there is something for the phone gamers to actually move on to if they want

most of the people I know who play those games don't have a system capable of playing Crysis let along EU. Did they even have a clue as to the system requirements CE2 has

People can't even play with real gaming machines without out of memory errors and to the casual gamer a few crashes leads to an uninstall because they just can't be bothered or don't have a clue on how to fix it.

Agree, it is two very different groups of players, of course there will be some who can and do both, but yeah, I don't think many housewives or teenagers who like to play on Iphones and FB primarily will cope at all with the EU platform, which is why I find the tactic very odd.

yep, casual gamers and hardcore gamers are two different segments of the population... BUT, if you want deposits and new participants, that casual market is the place where you got to aim. I think casual gamers are the new target audience for EU because MA wants people that like to part with their cash freely and fast like some of the early participants in EU did several years ago...

Firstly since you are on the topic. There is a CLEAR difference between someone buy a few shares = small scale share holder and a full scale investor = Part Owner which is exactly what Death is. He is a PArt Owner, not just a small scale investor with a few small shares. But i doubt anyone is going to try to skin him, fork his eyes out and drag him behind a jeep like you lot have tried to do to the PP pioneer ND.

If you ask me i would tell you that MA had no idea what to do with players that become PP's up until a fuss was made and the first ever pp got caught up in their their contractual flaws.

Unless you can show that David Dobson is not speaking the truth in this post, what you are saying is just plain wrong. The same post also outlines what kind of information has been / has not been provided.

Both are large premium properties that reflect the very significant sums paid for them.

also with the facebook games a cash deposit is usually to skip ahead.

12 year old farmville player costs mum £900

now imagine a 12 year in EU left with an activated CC on their account :jawdrop:

Another chess move - make a miniworld inside your planet, and then restrict Auction access in it to your planet only.

Seen in: Hell.

Yes, thank you for posting... this is definitely another chess move.

So, to confirm, the Gates of Hell are only available if you are on ROCKtropia, correct?

Isn't this the same for Ancient Greece on Next Island? Or can you access that anywhere?
(I've obviously never bothered to look)

actually, the auction in "hell" isn't restricted at all. I was looking at items from calypso there. what appears to be incorrect is the planet filter which only lets you pick RT or "hell". true to form, this is likely a bug/oversight/mistake from NDS who didn't bother to actually test it.

it's really not in anyone's interest, let alone NDS', to restrict the "hell" auction. since it will eventually cost money to go there and the areas will be subject to taxation, NDS wants people to go there and stay there. to properly stay there, you'd want to have a wide market available to sell your goods - even if that sale was subject to a transport fee (of which I believe the planet partner gets 50%).

Inversion of the chess game

years ago when the planet announcements first came up there was a lot of discussion about what this will actually mean to the EU economy. Back then it was kinda common sense that the EU-economy followed the rules of a closed economy and that the introduction will invert the economy to an open economy that follows the rules of the economies we all know.

A closed economy has no import from and no export to other economies and therefore they are called autark and self-sufficient. Monopolies of specialists can produce goods most efficiently therefore they can sell for the cheapest price. Monopolies mean decrease of price levels on goods in a closed economy. (In theory it works that way, but when i see the Dante market i question it)

In an open economy producers in different economies compete with each other to sell for the cheapest price. They are able to export to and import from other economies. (However reality shows that quality of the product, "marketwarfare" and other market-factors undermine the importance of price)

Several players questioned if EU is a real closed economy because the money actually comes from outside out of the universe. On the other hand if we are talking about ingame items it was hard to offend the claim of a closed economy, and simply easier to question if monopolies lead to cheaper prices.

in this case the astroid and space station can be seen as seperate worlds within a planet partner world.
then also these auction should become local / calypso auctions.
to build up a own economy.

for my concern MA should make all auvtions planetpartner based.
so that this way planet partners will have there own economy's established.
this might be interesting for players aswell because there will be the possibillity to become a interplanetary trader.
it will make people travel more aswell i think.

Pawn to E4...

A new reaction by a Planet Partner on official company forums...
Minor in the overall scope of things, and not directly related to game play or planet-specific game content, but a chess move nonetheless:

Events Forum Rules <---link

(Modified yesterday by Site Admin 711, 5/10/2011)
This Events forum is for threads related to events that take place on Planet Calypso, or on one of its satellite locations (e.g. Crystal Palace, Asteroid Space Resort, etc.).

Threads related to events or promotions held on other Entropia Universe planets, other computer games, events that do no take place within Entropia Universe / Planet Calypso are not permitted in this Events forum, nor in the forum Events calendar.

Note that all other Forum Rules also apply to this forum section.

It will be interesting to see if other PP Official Forums have similar MODifications.

Has anybody listed anything from Hell on auction yet? Auction filter on Calypso is not showing 'Hell' as a selection. Or would these show up on auction as being from Rocktropia? Can you list items in Hell?

And this is much more interest in how the auction system works than some kind of hunt. If and what kinds of filters there are in it and if this also affects how market values are calculated is what I want to know.

Personally I hope the other official forums take a similiar attitude, and that this forum will eventually have enough active admins and mods to clean it up. It is no longer the Entropia Universe forum, has not been for awhile now, yet it is cluttered horribly with stuff about other planets, in all areas, weapons, selling, buying, events, you name it, and not just in the 'other planets' section. I know how hard it is for many to let go of the past and the old EF, but this is not EF any longer, and no matter how much of the 'community' is still basing itself primarily here, it is the official Planet Calypso forum now, and other than the nine milliion threads of conspiracy theories (about other planets mostly) it is getting harder and harder to find clean current info about Calypso on it's own forum for those of us still actually playing the game.

Yup... although it has been the official PC forum for some time, I think the "new owners" are still sorting out how they want to run their official forum.

As you stated, I do think the other PP's may follow suit regarding having their own official forums mostly planet-specific.

so this is what Duchev was talking about?!?

The purpose of this thread is simply to discuss what folks may interpret as calculated moves by Planet Partners in the "Entropia Chess Game".

Ok, so... the latest chess moves...

  • MindArk takes control of the largest, oldest, most established planet in the platform...

  • MindArk plans opens "space"...

  • MindArk plans to close all interplanetary teleporters, essentially making travel to other planets (through pvp zones?) relatively difficult...

  • MindArk plans to restrict all auction activity to each planet, essentially closing off the market...

Checkmate?

I think putting too many things as the same moves, or even related moves is not good.

Ultimately, what MA wants to do is provide a platform, how space fits into this is not clear, but might become clearer once it has launched and is in operation.

Calypso getting taken back is an interesting one, but is ultimately I guess not a move but arises out of unmet financial obligations by SEE. No reason to think Calypso will stay in the hands of MA indefinetly. MA is the broker of planets, taking those with failed operators in from the rain. Kim|Mindark said as much in the 'Ask Mindark' forum.

I don't think Planetary teleopter closure really enmeshes with any of this. Its more about giving different planets (as separate games) more of a distinct feel. Quite possibly the main part is an attmpt at keeping new players on planets of origin and not migrating to Calypso.
