Help: Skilling Material Designer

I was wondering what the best way to skill the Material Designer profession is? I am level 0 right now.
 
1) Skillchips
or
- Get textures & tools
- Get limited BP book
- Texturize!
- Repeat as necessary
 
are there any good bps for skilling the lower levels, or should i just stick with Large Striped Cotton Fabric?
 
I'd say start with that, or if you hunt a lot, the generic leather texture, although the extractors cost more for it. For many other BPs, a lot of materials aren't easily available, or expensive.
 
material designer -> applying textures
material manufacturer -> making texture

However, material designer has joint skills with other design professions, so by practicing making furniture or tailoring or crafting textures you will gain in the profession without applying textures.
