FYI: Excessive Whining & Negativity

Status
There is much confusion with the meaning of whining.

whine
1. To utter a plaintive, high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint.
2. To complain or protest in a childish fashion.

The largest percentage of the community uses that term as an insult.. no matter how constructive a point is being made.:wise:

Yep +rep for this one :)

The majority uses the term when the term is due, but I do agree that it is sometimes used far too quickly or liberally.

In my opinion, the use of the word "fanboy" as an insult is worse. Especially since it is used mainly by people who apparently has no idea about the definition of it and against people who does not deserve that stamp.

This opinion probably comes from me having been wrongly targeted with the use of this word several times in the past.

Most common definition of fanboy in this context:
Someone who blindly defends a company or product no matter what.

Now, I have been called that what... a dozen times? a hundred? Yet anyone who actually has read my posts can confirm that I am negative about many things as well. In fact, the most interesting and telling example here would be when a member here on the forum called me a fanboy and complained about me being negative and complaining about a thing in the same post...

Ah well, my point is that yes, "whiner" may be used wrongly sometimes, but it is not the old word and only side that suffers from this. I personally try to keep an open mind about things like that, but I can admit even now that I sometimes see things as more negative than they are... although I do try to acknowledge these errors when I do make them.

This is what forums are all about these days..Your should read the diablo 3 forums. That game hasent launched yet (a few days), has had fans waiting for it for over a decade, has millions of orders before its even live..

And 98% of all posts on their forum are, complaints about the game concepts. Or other just off the wall negative posts. Or my favorite is people that haven't even played the beta, and are screaming at blizz to make changes and threatening to not play if they don't see those changes.

My standard response to those threads is
/See you at launch

Im just saying its not just a EU thing, it appears to be a "forum" thing. I see all over the net.

There is a lot of negativity, whining, trolling etc... on the internet because it is really easy for nerds to bash on people in a virtual setting since they don't reap the real world consequences, such as getting beat in the face.

Imagine if a nerd called you a dummie in real life and you were a 500lb bench presser. Not looking so good for that nerd :)

So in short, nerds come to the internet to vent their frustraition.

Just do what I do when I start to get too "antsy" go shoot some stuff in real life such as a target range or something :)

I hate the negativity, but for fun I shall look at some of the people that are negative and how they have helped me :)

It's pretty simple don't like it don't do it, so many people do stuff don't like result and instead of stopping they just complain. Seeing how I have small profits from this game all from mu more then covering my losses and stopping when I don't like something. Maybe I should be thanking all negativity on this forum as the majority of them probably Paid the mu for mu profit at some point.

Sorry for having a little self control flame away.

Exactly why the forum is an ineffective tool for legitimate complaints. Its just internet noise. Want to complain productively? Send a message to support, or one of the many public MA email addresses. Want to hear yourself speak? Use the forum.

whining about whining.

Fine. How about this?

This is what the player base gives itself over time from their own excessive negativity....

Want to fix the loots? Provide an encouraging environment to new players.

This is a real cash economy. The smaller the pool of people providing currency into the economy, the weaker that economy. The more loots suck. The more folks find reason to complain about bad returns.

Is MA doing this to the players, or are the players killing their own game?

My idea was always to have a "Whining" or "complaints" Thread/Folder
I don't see why people can't complain here, I TOTALLY hear what 711 is saying though... and I get why they are sick of it. I just say then put it all in some folder.
Same old idea, if we are all being negative, it is something MA is doing.
I submit support cases and I will continue to do so. Only one that seems to care or do something is other players.

I really dislike people who whine about people who whine about things. Whineception!

Ironically the original post seems kinda whiny and negative to me....

but the first post is different. Since its EU moderators, whining about people, whining about the game...as you can see that's completely different.

True... and if a product is not good enough and create a lot of negitivity than it should die.... don't you think so!
The way MA is running EU... it shouldn't survive... personally I'm here only because of the great concept .. and the potential!

Is MA doing this to the players, or are the players killing their own game?

MA's actions are responsible for the excessive negativity... This thread is a classic example of that:

Who is The True Winner? Do We Deserve an Honest Answer From MA?

Want to fix the loots? Provide an encouraging environment to new players.

This is a real cash economy. The smaller the pool of people providing currency into the economy, the weaker that economy. The more loots suck. The more folks find reason to complain about bad returns.

Despite all my negativities, i've mentioned in the past about my feeling about this game...
and guess what... as i'm typing this thread... I've convinced a friend about 1hr ago who has finished registration and, and downloading EU now as we speak!

but the first post is different. Since its EU moderators, whining about people, whining about the game...as you can see that's completely different.

Whining is only whining when it is followed up with inaction.

Should the moderation staff not follow through on their particular threats of discipline then yes, the OP is indeed a whine.

It seems like you're trying to straddle both sides of the fence here. Trying to be supportive on one hand, but yet condemn the product on the other for its failures. A product only has as much potential as it has users willing to believe in and support that potential.

So... which is it?

1) Do you support the product, and wish for its potential to be realized? This requires assuming the risks of failure.

2) Do you condemn the product because it is not good enough, and thus strive to aid in its destruction?

Pick one, and let your actions follow through with that choice.

MA's actions are responsible for the excessive negativity...

No, MindArks actions are responsible for the justified negativity. The excessive negativity is entirely up to the players.

The problem is not when people complain, the problem is when people complain for no reason, complain about things because they do not understand them or complain far more (and/or more agressively) than the situation warrants.

Should the moderation staff not follow through on their particular threats of discipline then yes, the OP is indeed a whine.

as long as its a very expensive RCE, removing posts that are "negative" very much looks like the company trying to cover up a scam. only by allowing the customer to hear the good and the bad, before choosing to deposit thousands of dollars, can MA maintain its all legit and the user knew what he was getting into.

Not to mention the people who believe in freedom of speech, and will see such post removals as reason to go to war. It has been said before, its better to have negative people posting here, in full disclosure. than it is to have angry champions spreading the "word" of EU across the net. there is already some of that, and you see how ugly it is.

I think the question becomes does MA really want to take some upset customers and turn them into a army of upset boycott champions.

Really its best to just let people vent...only the addicted EU players read this shit anyway.

Really its best to just let people vent...only the addicted EU players read this shit anyway.

Or folks who use Google to do a quick bit of research...

I think alot of the frustration stems from automatic support case responses and the censorship of the Devs Corner. Most of the questions are legitimate, yet we either don't get an answer from Kim or the answer is mystical and top secret.

We as a player base are easily pleased with good communication and action on issues. If we cant voice our concerns in the Devs Corner, where can we discuss and voice them?? Clearly as the flagship forum for planet Calypso it would be preferred that this is a happy positive forum. But those in the world who play EU are not your average player. We use real cash and hence any change in game that effects the economy can have serious consequences on our investments.
The EU market value on items is very sensitive and we take a gamble/risk investment on high mark up low TT items. When the parent company makes a change that affects the MV of an item we have no choice but to complain.

I think the street should be two way. We as a group can be constructive if the Dev team can give us as a client base good communication. This works as seen with the Arkadian Dev team who work with the player base on Arkadia. The result is a happy player base and an active positive forum.

I love this game and don't see myself leaving anytime soon. But don't censor us if the Dev team doesn't respond to legitimate issues.

Cheers
Bjorn

Once again like so many people here you have missed the point.

Excessive complaining by individuals.

EG lets say MA screws something up...be done before...will be done again....there will be a thread about it, people will complain loudly. They will not be banned for it

The point is a select few who's only reason for being on the forum is whining and bitching. EXCESSIVELY by individuals...not groups.

The way i look at it is like this...the vast majority of people i respect, like, enjoy their company, intelligent, have no issues with this. People that i don't generally like, bitch alot, have nothing nice to say about anyting, are not nice people, generally quite rude dont like it. The same people who loved entropia reality

The forum needs moderation, and the point of this thread is only for an individual who goes over the top. Its called common sense

Like i said at the beginning, its one helluva job being a moderator here and i have all the time for them

Actually there has been an issue before with a guy that didn't play anymore but was hanging around the forum telling newbies to "fuck off" in PMs simply to get revenge on MindArk because they did not live up to his false sense of entitlement.

That is one (very extreme) example of negativity gone out of hand :silly2:

Seems like a case of harassment, rather than "negativity".

Just a random thought on this topic:

Some people are naturally negative people, (I think of my mother in law lol)
bitches and complains about every thing all the time..I think that must be how she gets enjoyment out of life I just don't understand, and its annoying.

If she were to post here, I am sure it would all be considered negative. But she would be the kind to keep forking over her paycheck week after week, just like she does at the casino. (happily?) complaining the whole time.

No, this thread is about the consequences of excessive whining and negativity and disregard for the forum rules, which you will now be experiencing for 10 days.

Many of the responses in this thread seem to have come from people who simply read the thread title but did not bother to actually read the opening post. Nowhere was it stated that members are not allowed to express their opinions about Entropia Universe, or that all posts must be 'lollipops and butterflies' happy thoughts.

Constructive criticism, expressed in a civil and mature manner is, and always has been welcome on this forum.

What is not welcome is childish whining and complaining with no other purpose than to spread negativity and poison the well for other participants.

As I have pointed out many times in the past, it is very often not what you say that will cause a post to be moderated by the forum staff, but how you say it.

All opinions are welcome here on PlanetCalypsoForum, provided that they are conveyed in a reasonable manner.

I would ask those invoking topics such as freedom of speech and overmoderation etc. to please reread the opening post of this thread carefully, where it is made clear that the warning provided is directed at very specific types of nonconstructive and immature behavior exhibited by a very small minority of PCF members.

Seriously? You just banned a dude for making a joke...I think our concerns are valid.

I would assume the quoted post is not the only reason for this ban.

A quick review of Infinity01's posts over the last few months would show you very quickly that his behavior is precisely what I mean by 'excessive whining and negativity' discussed in the opening post of this thread. Throw in 5 or 6 new unfounded conspiracy theories spewed at MindArk each week, and it should be no surprise that he has received a temp ban.
