Developer-Notes--3

They have never said there's only 3 major lootpools (hunting, mining, crafting).
They said it's not all in one big lootpool, but there's no official statement if it's divided further or not (i.e.: mob, spawn, server, etc).

Poor aussies.. Their government promises to improve the internet connection to the rest of the world - year after year.
After elections they forget that and start blocking online content instead.
Well, that also saves some bandwith i guess...
:tongue2:

hehe yea, we got the fibre into our house 100Mbit/sec 1Gbit/sec upgradable if a business, but it doesn't get switched on until Q2 2013

So I am stuck with shitty ADSL/2+ 20Mbit/sec atm.

Funny NBN video

Well most of my town is stuck on 2Mb/s or less.

Hey Spike,

Feel for you bud, I was on an old 1M/256k before, it was a killer, hard to access work systems, etc

Maybe send this to your government and ask them if they can do the same :silly2:

Hi Uvas,

That is what I hope you wouldn't point out :)

Part of the research/investigation I was involved in my past work was to do with statistically assigning return of finance to the player, making a clear statement by an MA official of the such is a bad thing and will be caught up in the next review of Entropia Universe.

The initial commitee review on Entropia was giving the green light as not to be filtered.
I do not know the exact notes of the findings as I was not there until the end - Accident occured IRL.

If this was due to the constraints of the current IGA 2001 ACT's context, which I feel it may have been.
Then it will definitely be resolved within the IGA 2012 (or 2013) final act once it has been passed by government.

Personally I am a little concerned as I feel the next review will be the request for access to intelectual property (Their coding structure/routines/flowchart of funds through the system) which we all know MA will never allow and hence they will be added to the firewall unless by some mircale they can prove it is not gambling.

Entropia was flagged in 2005 as a potential online casino and money laundering facility hidden behind a game concept/front-end, research began in 2006, investigation began in Jul 2007 which lasted 3 years.

I am retired now, so can't give too much more info on the situation.
I play for fun, however I am still concerned.

Well, three years seems to be a thorough investigation. I don't think there is anything new to uncover here, except a new graphics engine.

And you left out a part of the act which makes it seem much less ominous to EU:

Interactive gambling services include those that are often described as 'online casinos' and usually involve using the internet to play games of chance, or games of mixed chance and skill. Examples include roulette, poker, craps, online 'pokies' and blackjack.

They seem to be interested in mainstream gambling sites.

So don't worry so much and enjoy!

Cheers.

Are you saying that if I move to AUS next year - which I have been planning to do; Melbourne to be exact - I will not be able to play poker online?
WTF?!

Oh now i see why it's been so easy to avoid upgrading the international link to the rest of the world...

Domestic backbone and international connection are 2 totally different things.

All Internet service providers in the whole world are using the same sales tactic.
They sell you "100Mbit/sec internet connection". What they don't tell you - this is only domestic speed. As soon as u want to connect to something outside your country, you'll be happy if you get 1/5th of that but it can go much lower, depends how much international bandwidth the company has bought/built.
Also, the real speed heavily depends if the content is locally cacheable (i.e. websites) or not (online games, real time video feed) - and we are talking about online games here...

Strictly speaking it's a perfectly legal way to deceive customers using their lack of awareness.

What is a good "Relative Cost"?

[h=3]Developer Notes #3[/h]

A second and very important part of efficient hunting is to consider the relative cost of using a particular weapon, often referred to as weapon economy, usually measured as damage per PEC. This measures how efficiently, in terms of weapon decay and ammo consumption, a weapon produces each point of damage. An avatar will enjoy much better overall hunting results over time when using weapons with higher damage per pec.

I was going to make this thread then but forgot.

What do you think Relative Cost means?
Do you think there is a DMP/Pec value that will ensure 100% return if used all the time in the long run? And what would that value be?

My thoughts:

I like to believe that the magic number for DMG/Pec is 3. If you acomplish that all the time and have no decay on anything else except weapon and amp you will have 100% return on the long run.

Long run, what defines a long run, well I don't know, but I think it's related to skills or a specific skill and damage

Like if you are in the 100-150 HP range you will get 100% return if you do 1M HP damage at 3 DMG./Pec

This remains a mistery

Please share your thoughts about Mindarks's relative system:)

I think MA had the flu when they posted that DEV note

I was going to make this thread then but forgot.

What do you think Relative Cost means?

Possibly relative to your skills and weapon used, and maybe relative to a ratio of ammo and weapon chosen. Maybe you need more turnover with certain weapons. I certainly find that with high end chips nanochips I need to burn more to crack a glob.

I think we've moved on from these dev notes, and any VU since "may not" hold any relevance to what was said back then, although the fundemental system is likely to still be in place.

I think the issue today is more people are using eco gear, so where they may have been a slosh of peds previously we are all running on tighter margins....in effect on similar dam/pec.

I don't think it helped that a lot of popular mobs or those mob loots were changed (Levi, drones, argo), so it's taking a while for many to adjust again and find their way (if they choose to find a new path in game).

I'm hopefull this weekend, I want to shoot, and I will continue to shoot...until the peds are gone.

Really into rex wave lately...so makes me laugh.

Rick
