Mob maturities and densities on the map?

Between the "dots" above the mob image, and the solid bar below, which one represents maturity, and which density? I have been wondering this for years. ;)
 
The color of the dot indicates the maturity of the spawn, ranging from green (low) to red (high).

With the bars, the one above the mob pic is the maturity, the one below is the density.
