Entropia Universe Active Player Base

Are the opted out users not counted toward the ranking ( while counting in the unique global total)? I just logged on ex tracker and couldn't find my rank.

I guess only EL devs can answer that, but logically they should count. Your rank should be on "My profile" page at the bottom of the Hunting Stats column.

Five of my ex-disciples are non-depositors who play at the lowest level - they sweat most of their time, sell sweat, lose the money on hunting and go back to sweating, over and over again, for years. And yet all five are within 900-1100 range in EL's hunting top, which means that the rest of 2500 people in the top below the 1100 mark are either struggling even worse or just aren't too active. Which in turn gives very interesting hints to the topic.

Now this is depressing. I regularily depo, and hunt, don't hunt the smallest mobs but I'm practically never this high. I usually get 4-6 globals / month.

Then things aren't that bad and globals aren't the ultimate index of activity. Which, having in the past completed whole Bronze argo with just a couple of globals, I readily agree with.

I've had 4 globals since vu10 because I switched to low end small mobs and low cost weapons. I'm active but only login every now and then when I feel like it.

And I don't put things on auction that often as it takes a while to build worth while stacks.

Cool :), proves that my estimate of active players is quiet accurate :D

Less Activity = 2 much Crashes

Just crashed again after 17 NRFs amped LVL 5 ...... *(CTD)

Tell how willing I am 2 log in and drop another streak of NRFs ...and crash again ..... its real ash economy ... I lost 3.40 $ + MU , due instable game + no guaranties it will be fixed

And as for tracker ... IDK my rank in mining 842/1467 but with AMPs not getting globals anymore so often not really representing activity. Doing LVL 5 and D-Class amps..... Getting a global per like 500 drops....or more

MA doesn't want to release the numbers because over a third of the population are avatars they or PPs run themselves?

I played a MMO about 13 years ago where when you logged in, they listed the population count of each server so you could decide whether you wanted to join a heavily populated server (to have more friends to play with) or a less populated server (so you could play without large crowds of people competing for the same camps).

Typical server population:
1PM: 2500 players
2PM: 2900 players
3PM: 1600 players
4PM: 2800 players
5PM: 2300 players

As soon as 3PM rolled around, all the doomsayers started their 'omg the sky is falling!' theories in the chat channels because they couldn't find anyone to play with them. They hadn't thought that the reason they couldn't find anyone to play with them is because of their shitty attitude, and poor playing skills. Add to that, that many people were already in a full team of 6 or didn't need the skills of that particular class.

As a result, they stopped posting the up-to-the-minute server count because of all the public chat channel theories (from 13 years ago) that the game was going to implode, which was detrimental to the game's growth. Not that the whole game would die because of one person's doomsaying, but even a few losses because of this negativity is detrimental. It's still going strong today.

DiabloP, my reply to you, now stop putting your information on wikipedia as I've explained everything you asked me to (factual research blablabla)

Your message to me:

Thank you for your concern but I could argue with you on several grounds:
1- through out PCF Planet Calypso Forum There are many statements that back the test. Claims by players that sweaters are ranked 900~1100 which greatly undermines the accuracy of the numbers of Entropia Life [1].
2- The Reseach performed is based on weekly activity while Entrpoia Life data is monthly. It could be argued that a player logging in once a month is not considered an active player.
3- Players have also been able to back this number using estimated CLD (Calypso Land Deed) Payouts
4- Most arguments on the forum against this number are based on statements such as:
"I would guess the active player base is . . ."
"I would estimate the active player base is . . ."
"I think the active player base is . . . "
"based on my experience I'd say the active player base is . . ."

And no one has yet been able to dismiss this number using any sort of scientific method.
5- On the article it was not claimed this number is exact but it was stated that this is the best estimate of current number of active players. Assuming the validity of Entropia Lifes number of globals during the last 30 days, (which I have yet to see the list reported out to public) of approximaitly 3000 we could say that 2200 ( the result of the research) is a good estimate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EntropiaUniverse (talk • contribs) 07:47, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

You can argue all you like sir, but your ways do not stand up to the scientific standards required by one the Entropia Universe community, and two, the WikiPedia article information rules. All you do is assume, assume, assume and then self proclaim your research is the best. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but that's not how research works and it is faulty per definition. research can be conducted based on an assumption of the outcome. Research can never be conducted using assumptions in the starting variables.
In your whole thread of everyone giving arguments against your test, you manage to twist the words in your head and again, assume that an argument is actually in favor of your test. Even when clarified by the original poster of the argument that it is against you and you interpret it wrong. You filter out every argument against you, which are many.

Now onto your points of arguing with me:
1- You failed to read the whole post, you completely missed the part that these sweaters actively hunt with their peds made from sweating. People that hunt will get a global sooner or later, which means they get in the hunting ranking list. This in no way proves anything about the active player base, it only proves your prejudged opinion about sweaters not being active players. It also has no relation whatsoever with the accuracy of EntropiaLife.

2- Again, an assumption. What is an active player base? You seem to assume that an active player is someone who logs on at least once a week and during that time does a great amount of activities. Now to get to the point, fact is that (if you do some googling research) most games measure the active player base in the following way: Active players are all players that have logged in at least once during a time period of a single month, regardless if they did anything in the game or not. So, no, I don't think you can argue that a player logging on at least once a month and getting a global is not an active player, because it fits the generally used rule I just stated.

3- Again, assumptions from your part. Please read the thread quoted by yourself again, see all the valid arguments against you? Try reading them and understanding them please.

4- Again, assumptions. Yes some people like to guess, like you are doing throughout this whole test of yours. But these guessing people are not turning this into a fact and keep it as their most educated guess. Here are some quotes from your research:
"One of the assumptions was:" ([1]
"Assuming 2000 is exact, i'm pretty sure the accuracy would be above 90%." [2]
"We can assume the behavior towards the auction for weekend players is the same as week days." [3]
Everything you did is based on your personal assumptions, not everything other people said.
Nobody has been able to dismiss your number scientifically? Again, EntropiaLife.

5- The point is not that you claim it is exact, it's that you wrongfully claim it to be true and researched, a fact. 2200 versus your, again assumed and made up, 3000 (EntropiaLife as I stated, states almost 3700 for 1 profession!) is 26.66% difference and can in no way be called accurate. Comparing your 2200 versus the actual stated facts by EntropiaLife on hunting players (close to 3700) it's 40.54% difference which is even worse. 26.66% and 40.54% off on your estimates, that's the worst estimate I've ever seen, it's called a guess, not an estimate.

Now on to EntropiaLife, I'm not sure if you understand what it does. EntropiaLife logs globals and hofs from the ingame chat and puts them in a database. True, EntropiaLife is not 100% accurate in logging these globals as sometimes it misses a few. But every single global that has been logged is harvested factual data! EntropiaLife does not make up globals when there aren't any. Which we can conclude that the information provided by EntropiaLife are facts and there are at least 3700 active players per month in hunting alone, it is a fact that this is the ultimate minimum of active players. There could be more, and there are more, because some globals from an unknown avatar might have been missed by the program and again, not all active plyers get a global every month.

I hope you have read this carefully, I will not spend another explanation on you if you do not understand the weight of these arguments.

Now why does your information not fit this wikipedia article? Even if you think your research still stands despite everything I've told you. See this link: Wikipedia:No_original_research

So please for the sake of abiding to WikiPedia's rules, do not add your biased information again, thank you.

I still think my suggestion of a poll would be more acccurate. And I would be interested to see what the results would be but I don't know how to make a poll

Anyone else will make it?

Question: have you had a global in hunting ONLY past 30 days
1. Yes
2. No

Then compare this with entropia life numbers to give rough estimate of population active in a monthly period.

Say poll gives a 40% of people have had a. Hunting global then you can Israel this to give population from EL numbers. But it must be hunting globals only

I still think my suggestion of a poll would be more acccurate.

The problem is that poll would be as non-representative as any polls on PCF. See, there are 50k registered users, over 3k of them were simultaneously online once this year, there are 300+ online at any given time, but most polls never collect more than 50-100 votes no matter for how long they run. And the most popular polls all have exactly 210-220 votes (just checked all polls in General section for the last 2 years) - so basically that's the maximum number of people who care for polls.

I wish wish I didn't bust my plus rep all over the place a few hours ago and ran out...I want to give Dante some.

Too bad 48 people didn't vote "0"...can you imagine the results then?

Whoever said "you made science cry" made me lol...this nitwit indeed did.

Nothing is perfect, but Crazy's idea is about 100 times better than the OP's.

And as far as the OP keeps trying to update wiki, that is just stone-cold BS you are trying to spread and you know. Quit it. Aint nobody got time for that.

Casinos count every different person that plays anything in one month, regardless of total time in the casino.

That is their "active players"

In this game it is probably 20k.

If you want to only count those that play for hours and hours every week, THEN you are counting the "high-rollers" or the "whales". Which as we all know, represents only a small portion of a casino's monthly visitors, and represent only a small portion of this games monthly avatars.

To consider only "whales" as active is fucking stupid. The 2000 number is fucking stupid. That test was fucking stupid, and the person trying to spew that bullshit on Wiki is {removed}. 3000-4000 are the people gaming enough to be seen constantly....we can all establish that from EL in any given month. 15-18k are still active, and creating criteria based on number of hours playing to exclude these people is fucking stupid. You are active if you log in once a month, you are active if you log in 10 hours a day. You are active whether you tt all your shit, or whether you AU all your shit, or whether you sell it in fucking twins.

Once you start drawing the line on daily or weekly level of activity, you better stop calling it a list of "active" people, and you better start fucking calling it a list of "high-rollers". Because that's all it fucking is.

Sorry I am so pissed, but I am so offended by this that I can't even see straight. It is not 2000, and your identification of players as "active" is fucking worthless, a lie, and damned lie. Get it off Wiki. Now.

You missed out the part, that single player globals does not give any hint on active player base.
There are enough player which are active but hunt only in teams.
Also there are quite many which do not global, like the traders, sweaters, explorers and roleplayers.
And finally, there is absolutely no proof that entropialife catches every global, if I remember correctly the person globalling must either run the app or be on the same server with someone running the app.

There is absolutely no way anyone could make a real estimate on the active player base.
There are around 2 Million registered users and only 30k here .
Even if only 0.5% was active that would be already 10k .

No. I have not.

LOL at Gunsout post.

I think we should go for the "sexual satisfaction" method of assessing active.

If you got once a day, that's a fair assumption your partner is pretty "active".

The word 'partner' is a generalisation to encompass everyone that is old enough to engage in the activity of their choice with who they choose.

If you get it once a week, I'd say you might not be getting it as well as you should, and would probably refer to your partner as semi active but certainly "not active" enough.

How about once every two weeks. Mmmmm personally I'd be frustrated by now, I would not be suggesting my partner was active, even if they did ride me enough to pop a global.

The once a month crowd would be a real shame, that could be considered fridged and certainly "not active". in such a situation you could find yourself looking for other avenues to seek pleasure, or at least be moaning to your close friends how you're not getting enough attention. Certainly NOT ACTIVE.

Once every 6 months? dear oh dear, that's bordering of possible affair territory due to lack of activity. No way is that active.

Once every year....meet a new lover.

Rick

Lol predictive text on my iPhone. The country of Israel does not approve my poll or have any connection with me haha. Can't even think of what word I was trying to spell there :p

That might work too :)

But I prefer two separations..."Do you fuck a lot?" and "everyone else I won't talk to in a bar"

But realistically all we really care about is the cash basis...

...for activity as its what drives the game...so should you reconsider making the poll with the following subsititution in front of all your time frames at "XXX","pay for sex.." or "I pay for sex..."

Supposedly, this clown is now tainting global publication data: WIKIPEDIA WARS

hmmm...just found out that Virtual Tycoon has been installed 10000 - 50000 times...never would have thought that...
Active player base might be way higher than anybody thinks...

This game is a niche market. More so only about 100-200 players ATH or make the HOF charts on a regular basis.
We are a small family, we all know each other :)
As an 'officially inactive' player (I haven't globalled since mid 2012) this statement makes a lot of sense to me - I am still an active participant cos I'm friends on FB with dozens of EU avies/entities or people.
I would like to know something that might not be a commercial secret for the very first real cash economy MMO,
how many accounts have been opened in total ?
