Aren't The people like us suppose to do battle arenas pvp... for prizes.... when it first started couple yrs back alot of people were using them......... then i guess just not enough interest and other stuff going on always.

I think PvP arena's on Cyrene give Replica cloths....that I read on info of the cloth didn't test it!

[11] Yes, if it can be guaranteed 100% cheat proof otherwise under no circumstances should this be allowed

I would vote for this option 11. It's time to make a stand against cheats.

Hi George,

Could you elaborate a little on your post?

What sort of cheats are being used?

More information and/or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thinking back over it I don't think it's possible to eradicate cheats completely because they always work around whatever controls and measures are taken. So another approach could be to have an in built financial disadvantage to cheating e.g. some sort of fine. This fine for cheating could be paid directly to the victim of the crime if that can be ascertained or to some kind of prize pool. Then awarded to players who have never ever cheated.

So perhaps this option would be better:
[12] Yes, as long as cheats are punished financially and charged a fee every time they cheat

As to the exact methods cheats use I'm not to familiar with them as I don't pvp much. Some I've seen mentioned on forums are speed hacks (in space), revive bug exploit, server boundary exploit etc. Normal players are getting sick to death of cheats being allowed to get away with it.

Also the onus should not be on good players to provide evidence. A proactive approach should be adopted e.g. undercover MA avatars, A full time Calypso/MA employee watching all players in such arenas and finally MA recording play in all battle arenas 24/7. Therefore whatever cheat is adopted MA would be in a good position to have evidence already available to them to investigate and impose fines accordingly.

Ideally all a player should not even need to report a crime but still be compensated if they have been wronged. If a player does decide to report they should only need to report the details of the crime e.g. time, location, avatar names involved, nature of crime etc...

George,

Although I have never encountered any cheats in EU as of yet, I have in other games.

SpeedHacking can be eliminated, I have seen it done in other games (even where advantages are calculated in decimals), and I've helped test solutions.

I would suspect server boundary exploits could be temporarily eliminated until an actual transition between servers becomes smooth by not placing PVP zones near server boundaries?

I am unaware of the revive bug; Is this the occurrence of reviving at the same location you died for a period of time until you are 'warped' back to a revive terminal.

Do you participate in Land Grabs?

I'm not sure how that revive bug works but i know people can cheat such that they don't get killed essentially immunity to death. I think there are different versions of this exploit. I think one was linked to bringing up the avatar remake option when that was still allowed. Another involved a blue halo around a person so I assume that halo is due to a relog or revive.

Those were just examples. There are many more exploits most of which I'm probably unaware of. I have participated in landgrabs in the past but not recently.

Yes. Under these conditions:

1) It's an instance.
1a) Ideally a not-too-small landscape arena. But perhaps there could be several different ones to choose from for diversity.
1b) Rules and conditions could be assigned at the pvp-match terminal.
2) Entry fee is 5-15 PED per person.
3) It is team deathmatch.
4) Only two teams can enter the same match. A duel, so to speak. With three or more teams it would be easy to exploit (suddenly it's 2v1). Naturally any number of matches could be going on simultaneously.
5) The loot/winnings follow the same rules as any normal mob loot out there.
5a) Avatars don't drop loot.
5b) Upon winning (eliminating the other team) - the instance is auto looted by the winning team. So if it was a 10 VS 10 match with a 10 PED fee, that's (20*10 PED = ) 200 PED invested. This number is thrown into the loot-generator. "Team X won a match in the arena and scored a loot of 5879 PED! A note has been made on the hall of fame."
5c) A new section added to the Hall of Fame; PVP Arena (or whatever name you can come up with).
5d) The loot distribution in the winning team is determined by their team settings.
6) I had some more points, but I forgot them.

Also would be fun if you could spectate on-going matches via the terminal.

PvP settings could include things such as; which arena, vehicles or not, etc. I guess it's a bit like the pvp event system already in place.

And I have no idea what loot should contain. What does it contain in lootable pvp (the part from the toxic shot)?

To be clear: Betting on matches would be expressly forbidden. In fact it already is forbidden in Entropia. It is more or less a condition why there even is an Entropia today - why the Swedish Gambling Authority did not shut it down.

Perfect.

In EU i've always been strictly PvE player (except for few quick "payback missions" for friends/socmates) but with this system in place i would definitely try it out.
I'm sure i wouldn't be the only one.

A suggestion that does not address cheating I would argue is far from perfect. The meaning of a competition is meaningless if cheating is allowed to flourish.

What sort of cheats are being used?

I remember when the arena on Cyrene went live. Their idea was good all players have same skills and same equipment and hence all theoritically would have an equal chance of winning.

In reality what happened was some players were exploiting and hence had a considerable advantage. I remember two cheats they used. One was somehow placing normal plates onto this specialist armour for the hub hence they had a considerably higher protection than normal players. I evidenced this when I shot some players over ten times and they did not die and did not fap. Myself I would die after 3 or 4 shots. Another cheat they used was using the teleport to jump in and out of fights and always stay near teleport so they could get out in case they were close to death.

What happened to these people that cheated? Nothing in terms of justice they just raked in a fortune by cheating honest players.

Frankly that is abysmal.

George,

Those problems you named were caused by project managers who were inexperienced with the mechanics and gameplay of Entropia. The idea was not thought through fully and thus left holes in the programming.

Blame Cyrene for not adressing possible exploits before they went live.

Blame MA for not testing the issues before they launched Cyrene.

In all reality, why would they not have? I have no clue. Its an RCE game and one would suspect any advantageous exploits would be considered and remedied pre-launch of any new features.

You can not blame participants of a Capitalist economy for taking any and every opportunity to gain an advantage. Its a dog eat dog world when it comes to money.

This has gone a little off topic. My appologies.

We only have 33 votes, could we not do better?
