A noob experience...
Hello,
I'm a total noob... started playing some weeks ago. Just posting here to share my personal experience.
Regarding the tech issues, I did not have any problem when downloading nor installing the game. I have an old Intel Core2 Duo 3Ghz machine, GTX 460 graphics card, and Win7. The game runs perfectly with middle quality graphics settings. I did experienced some CTD when playing though, maybe 2 or 3. When trying to log in again, I received an error message saying something like "Your avatar is already logged in"... looked for it in the EU official FAQ, waited for 10 minutes, and I could login again. Was a little annoying, but very far of being a cause to quit playing the game.
Now regarding content, story line, understanding the game, and why I play it and plan to keep playing it...
I discovered the Project Entropia game a few years back in 2006, did try it for a few days... If I remember correctly, I had an orange suite at that time, and sweating was done with the hands and mumbling something. I was amazed at the RCE concept. But it was not the time for me to commit to the game though. Years passed, lots of games under the bridge also... and now I'm starting in Calypso again.
The first day I created my avatar (no more orange clothes... but yellow now?
), named it and started doing missions for that Yoshida guy. I was pretty entertained right from the start. I was receiving stuff, and didn't have to pay anything! The game felt good and really better that my old experience. At this point was thinking if the sweating thing have been gone... At this point I started to do some research and reading, in the EU official site, and the others, found this forum. Started reading a lot of stuff, seeing some videos, and getting into the RCE concept again.
I'm playing it, and will continue playing it because I like playing games, and usually like those games that can provide me with entertainment that can last long. I love to build my character, and to feel that it takes some effort to do so. The concept of a RCE was definitely the thing tilted the balance though. The concept that every action that you perform cost money, and has the potential of providing returns also, is just amazing for me. I feel like this game can provide endless entertainment, and the RCE it's just perfect to make this "long-to-master-game" even better and more appealing to me.
I know that not all noobs under the Sun are made equal, so... my point of view and experience might just be only a minority. But I personally feel that this game is not for everyone, and that the players that survive the noob phase, the first months or maybe the first years, do so because they like the general idea and concept of the game, even if there are some bugs or issues. Although there are a lot of things that can be done and improved, I think that for playing the game for a long time, you just need to like the general concept of it. You are not going to stick years and years in EU otherwise.
That being said... and now adding a little hot comment. From my noob eyes, I guess I'm starting to understand a little bit why there are so many good and hot discussions going on in the forum (there even seems that some of you guys are long time "rivals"?):
Being this a RCE game, everyone fears to loose their hard earned PEDs! And that's perfectly fine. I have already deposited some money in the game, and I really don't want to loose any of it! I want this game now going on forever (and if I can, I want pass on my account and future fortune to my child some day!!!
).
But as someone previously said... we shouldn't be putting money in here that we don't what to loose anyway. This is a game, owned by a company that can change any rules whenever they want. There's nothing we can do about it. If we like the product MA offers, we buy it. If not, we are free to go and spend our money elsewhere. Simple as that.
I hope I have not made any "Vladimir Putin" or "Barak Obama" of this game mad with the last comment (or by the freaking length of it!!! my god is really long isn't it?). I only know a few avatars, but the rest are totally unknown to me... but there seem to be some here that can make my existence in EU a real pain in the @$$!
...
Cheers,
Jay
