There is a lot of speculation going on about how MA is going to shaft tamers with the stables, and how it is undermining the ability of players to use the new-old feature.

But I have not yet come across some serious analysis of the info we have. So, going into a bit of comprehensive reading:

Stable Estates

A limited number of Stable Estates will be made available on the Entropia Universe auction. These new estates will generate revenue through different channels, as described below.
Ok, so far, no real info, other than it will (may) make the owner money.
As described in the Entropia universe roadmap published in the Buzz section, Pets will be released in Taming - stage 1 (autumn 2014) and the stables functionality in Taming - stage 2 later in 2014.
As taming is phase one, and stables phase two, this implies that stables are NOT a requirement in order to be able to tame. Otherwise, stables would have to be implemented first.

The stables will generate revenue for the stable managers by charging a small fee for services in the stables, for example, selling, trading and specialised training of pets. Stables will also be the hub for future Pet Battle Arenas and Controlled Creature Battle Octagons where all pet and creature activities will be held.
So, what does this mean? Well, the stables is where the pet fights can take place. This means the stable owners have a huge responsibility in keeping their business competitively priced, otherwise, people will just not bother. Also, apparently, they provide stuff as trainings, and can sell pets to people who do not wish to do their own taming. Seems win-win for me. The owner gets income on his skills when he tames, or other tamers can sell their pets to him thus monetizing their skills, and the new pet lover gets a pet without much hassle.
Stable managers can also earn PED by renting stalls to other avatars for their pets, and by providing specialised training only available at the stables. Stable managers provide housing and maintenance for stabled avatar pets, including food and energy. Better care provided by the stables will result in faster pet progress and better performance in competitions.
At first glance, this sounded bad. Will I have to keep my pet in there when I log on? So does it cost money for all pet owners? Then I spotted that the stables increase pet progress! So this is a way for pet owners participating in fights to get ahead of the competition. But it does not say that everyone needs to use this feature.

In addition, stables will have the ability to be upgraded with shopping booths, additional stalls, teleporters, terminals, visual additions and other unique features.
Hmm, okay. Perhaps I will be able to buy a stall with the inevitable price dive (which we should have seen long ago, with the current oversupply of stores. But that's a different issue.
The Stables will be placed in strategic positions on each planet. Each planet will have the chance to auction these exciting and fun additions to the Entropia Universe starting on July 1 2014, with starting bids of 20000 PED.
20K... wow!

Number of Stable Estates per Planet:
Planet Calypso - 6 stables in 6 locations
Planet Arkadia - 3 stables in 3 locations
Rocktropia - 2 stables in 2 locations
Planet Cyrene - 1 stable
Planet Toulan - 1 stable
Next Island - 1 stable

The stable estates will be implemented into Entropia Universe later in 2014.

You're making some assumptions there. For example, one could interpret the text to mean that pets may only be sold through a stable after they are implemented, which would obviously have a negative impact on freelance tamers.

As one who bought a shop and skilled taming in order to have a "pet store", my thoughts as I read this (as well as those of the other tamers from the comments in the announcement thread) are generally not positive. Clearly the cost of entry into professional taming is now start bid 20k PEDs.

Sometimes, no information is better than partial information. Mindark has only given us partial information and I think it's done more damage than good. EU is populated by people who "want to do it on their own" and right now it looks like that won't be possible with taming, given the info we have so far. They need to follow up with one of their developer notes explaining in more detail how taming will actually work and what is the role of stables.

Creature Control System Stage 2 - (Planned for Winter 2014 Release)

Through a new Battle Octagon interface, your avatar will be able to control various creatures and challenge other avatars to battle in special CCS octagons. With lots of options for attack and defense customisation, each battle promises to be unique and exciting, especially considering the possibility of creatures and robots from different planets engaging in reckless combat against one another!

Why would a stable owner be able to BUY pets, if the only way to sell them is through the stable?

The way I read it is that pet deeds won't be available on auction, but rather available to buy and sell via the stable interface. If that's true, the stable owner might get a cut of the MU similar to shop fees. Or they could just be talking about people gathering at the stable to sell pets via p2p trades.

Sounds like bringing your pet to the stable is the way you connect them to the web interface facebook farmville game thingy or whatever that is about.

I'm not sure what that question has to do with my post. :scratch2:

Look at the previous post for a more expanded comment on the possibility of all sales being restricted to the stable.

Quite understandable concerns. And I think regardless of how it is / will be in the end, it should have been communicated so the case would be clear from start.

Im hoping this bit doesnt mean we can Only train in a stable and therefore Have to pay a stable owner for the privilege.........:scratch2:

My response has everything to do with your post, as you make the statement stables will (possibly) be needed in order to be able to trade.

The fact that TAMING will be released BEFORE stables, implies that stables are NOT necessary in order to be able to tame. Combine that with the roadmap link someone added, in which it states that the phase one taming will be like we used to know, and that features will be added on LATER, means that the stable is something which comes on top of being able to tame as we used to. And I recall that pets could be sold in the old system, which the new system is said (by MA) to mimic.

There is no statement which states that trade will be limited anywhere (at least, not from sources linked to the developers), so let's not panic about that, shall we?

Reading all of this, I have to say that buying a stable right now would be like buying a mysterious Atrox Egg!!

As Wollo already stated... taming will be implemented first, stables later. So selling through a stable is impossible at first, since the stables won't exist in stage 1 ( only taming exists)

Planets were introduced before space, yet space is needed to access planets.
I just wanted to point this out as a possibility since people are stating things about the stables/taiming as facts when they are more 'logic' than 'fact' if that makes sense in an MA way.

Yes, thank you, that's a great example of a case of something that was implemented first and later changed to create a niche for the "investors" in the latest big sale item (motherships). This is business as usual for MA hence my concerns expressed in my first post which are easily as likely as the other interpretations. I don't claim it will be that way, i'm simply pointing out that OP is full of holes and anything but comprehensive.

There's a pet section in auction... it's possible that that section will disappear and be taken over by the stables? Perhaps that is part of 'phase 2'? Only time will tell. If that is a part of phase 2 maybe phase 2 is the start of there potentially being a system to create a 'shop directory' in game, which may not be such a bad thing in the long term... We can only speculate at this point in time.
