ComPet App Deeds

Maybe it will be a Mutated Kitten? :scared:

Honestly I don't know what to think about it. I'm torn between thinking that it will be total failure and waste of funds on one side, on the other it have a potential.

I had never played Pokemon but I bet it have more active users than EU. If MA can tap into that niche and attract some Pokemon players with RCE possibilities (I assume original Pokemon is not RCE) plus well designed battle mechanics, then there is a chance to turn this into success.
Plus exposure of EU platform.

Question is how it is connected to EU.
Will it have complete separate economy and ComPet failure or success will not have any influence on EU?
How about Developer time, will it be paid from ComPet or still from 'standard' EU salary?

I like it, everything that add a bit of fun to the game is good, even if only 25 % of the players like it, it's a thing that brings additional enjoyment to the game, the one that don't like it can just ignore it. And for those complaining about the concept, don't forget we was supposed to have a Michael Jackson planet :silly2:

Thoughts running through my head..

MORE DEEDS?! REALLY?!

Yay we get to fight with... Wait why is there a panda WHERE IS MY REXTELUM AND ROBOTS!?!? :eyecrazy:

This could be awesome! Maybe...

How Is this connected with EU?!:scratch2:

Sure hope MA doesn't screw this up...

1st issue is the return graph, was this calculated by the same person that worked the hyper accurate one for the CLD return rate?

2nd wtf are we being asked the give MA another $2,000,000. Are they that low on funds that they need that much cash?

Btw there was a guy who built a farm style app got bored and decided to see how willing people to pay for stuff. He was adding ludicrous stuff like polkdot pink cows for $30 each and people were buying them. Simpons Tapped out is one of the highest grossing games on the mobile platform.

I'm afraid I have no real faith in this. This is essentially a PVP game, (using per-programmed mobs) and looking at EU history, pvp haven't done well, except for some specialists.

The "win peds" thing shows a simple hint of the game plan and drawbacks.
  • Get folks to pay to get pets
  • Get folks to pay to upgrade pets
  • Get folks to pay to fight pets
  • Pay portion of the fee to fight (I.E. If entrance fee is 20 peds each, the winner gets 90%, or 36 ped, winning 16 ped from the loser)
  • Stable/arena owners get portion of decay/fight fees as revenue in exchange for investing in game
Which means that those that pay the most will win the most, also making poorer folks complain about the game as they are the final income base. Then they will play less and less, or simply play against each other, refusing to fight the "ubers".

I can obviously mention the issues I have about the choice of "pets" they showed in the poster (EU mobs in the background/defocused, etc.) and what that implies for the main EU game, but that almost matters least.

Oh fuck me. Just fuck me.

How in the hell did we go from Project Entropia to cvnts running round in hats with LOL on them and an app so I can play Pokentropia...

Fuck this shit, I'm out.

theres no way im financing your shitty farmville and candy crush-esque apps. I play candy crush when im taking a shit. let all your fucking golden children sponge avatars that haven't cycled a fucking pec in the last 5 years finance this garbage. im so happy many of my old friends have left so they don't have to see this disgusting display of whatever the fuck this is supposed to be.

THIS. I mean, WTF? Dear MA - why not spend time developing EU with things your customers really want?

But how is this app gona effect " The few hundred people who still took this game seriously " expiriance?
well you know all those bugs, problems and features waiting for implementation? now they're going to take longer be MA is refocusing on this new product. a company that has a track record for failing to deliver its aims just gave its developers and managment a massive distraction.

because .... ?

I'm realy asking. Whats the worst that can happen? I mean realy worst case scenario.

the worst that can happen is that its really successfull and they devote more time and resources to this that the original game.

MA jumped the shark. they could have created a tablet game that fitted in with the feel and lore of the game, but they've decided to chase a generation old genre instead.

That was my first thought.

They did developed the iOS version of Tycoon, there was a post that they're trying to approve it, apparently unsuccessful. Apple's known for removing much less contradictory apps from its store.

Now a game (ComPet) that allows of winning and cashing out real money has zero chances to get approved.

...and that was my second.

yeah..

Lets face it, in a couple of years you wont be able to tp anywhere with out seeing someone with a tamed kitten, dog or panda running behind them. And many will be playing this app at work, on the train, taking a dump, etc...

Exactly! Because the EU population totally hasn't been bugging MA about taming for the past 5+ years.

Lol...

I dunno, maybe I'm weird, but I'm gonna wait until we can open up the box and see what's inside before deciding whether or not I like the contents of the box. If I don't like what's inside, then I just won't use it... If I don't like it and it also directly affects me in a bad way, then at that point ill get pissed off about it. My thinking is that getting pissed off about something when I don't even know what it is might be less than rational.

Good point. After all it isn't even released yet nor are there pics/demos of it.

I've never been a fan of handheld gaming devices, so I won't be investing a penny into this development. My fondest memories of this "game" were pre-cryengine. I hope at some point in the future Mindark or someone else will relaunch Project Entropia as a standalone platform and develop that.

Don't know if was said, skipped from page 3 to 11, but this is how desperation smells.

If MA thinks they can pull it off again gathering millions of Euros from various weird deeds not even implemented yet... I wonder if they DO have windows at their offices or they have painted all in pink.

Personally I should have seen it coming though...

The biggest problem I see them having is that they're treating the users differently. Sure mobile games have premium content but with this they're saying work as hard as you want but if you don't give us cash you're a second class player.

So what?

It's two totally separate games, almost mutually exclusive from each other, that will function independently of each other to a large extent. Aside from having the potential to fill your hunting loot window with items of value, it won't change how you play EU.

Some will like it, some won't, but we all stand to benefit.

This post doesn't even make sense. Are you whining for the sake of whining? Compets is just a new addition to Entropia that is basically taming. Why are you showing the game having turned into compets. There is still hunting etc, if you don't like the taming update then don't tame. Simple as that.

Are you sure Compets is completely seperate from Entropia? I thought it was basically like taming that also branched out into it's own IOS game?

I'm pretty sure it's not a standalone game.

I didn't say completely, however the fact is that you will be able to play EU without ever installing ComPets and you will be able to play ComPets without installing EU.

However you won't be able to avoid furry pandas, global announcements of "xxx beat xxx in PET BATTLE" and all the 12 year olds swarming.

Watching PE die is like watching a relative get alzheimers. It's utterly depressing.

But how do you know those things? The fact is that you don't... You are making assumptions based on hypothetical scenarios and then getting pissed off about it.

Why not wait and see what the product actually is before condemning it?

It amazes me, watching people who berate MindArk as if they want to sabotage anything new that has potential and then complaining afterwards because that thing ending up being less than wildly successful.

None of us have even seen the details yet, much less gotten a chance to see the actual game.

edit: less chance than poker Wollo? Hmm, poker is played in steps. I wonder if we can withdraw heavily injured pets after a bad round? That would make it easier to at least compare poker and pet-bashing!

Yes, I think so. Because in Poker, you are dealt cards, and these are (should be) totally random. While in this, your decisions, and the decisions of your opponent are the most important thing in mind. (Unless they totally fuck this up, so that a mob with 999999 hitpoints can actually still lose from one with only 1 hitpoint).
