As it is another slow day at work i thought why not ask your opinion about the future of Entropia Universe.
To make it easier i´m gonna give you few questions to answer.

1.Will there be Entropia Universe in 5 years (or whatever it might change it name to)
2.How many auctions pages total will be there be in 5 years? (right now it is bit over 1000 (total for all planets))
3.Will there be taming?
4.How many planets will there be in 5 years and will all the current ones survive?
5.What is the markup of modified fap in 5 years?
6.What is the markup of Mod Merc in 5 years?
7.Will the CLDs stay ingame or will MA find a way to remove them? If still ingame, what price are they going for in 5 years?

Thats enough.

A lot will depend on the success or failure of the new features (revamped/reimplemented old features actually). Taming, with the connection to the wider pet-fighting platform where RCE meets betting on the mobfights, that could be a huge success. Or it could fail. Nobody has done that before, so anything can happen. We'll see.

In the worst case scenario, if everything else fails, EU will most likely still keep going as a tiny niche game. There's lot of ppl who don't give damn if the sky is falling or not - those will keep going and there's not much needed to keep that game alive.

Either way, the next 1-2 years will be interesting.

1, yes it will just not be the same as you know it now (probably more focused on micro transactions)
2, can you give me the next lottery numbers ?
3, read EU news
4, not many... I belive somme ppl may just make planet to advertise there brand (like let say Samsung) but that will depend of the price needed versus potential customers targeted ( hard to tell realy as MA don't give player numbers)
5, low (you probably will be able to rent gear sets true micro transactions)
6, read 5
7, hard to tell (CLD's are linked to player numbers / activitys) even if the revenue drop in significant way we don't know if ppl will sell them or just keep them

interesting questions and somehow impossible to answer or guess in some of them.
But since I'm @ work irl I'll make my contribution with my thoughts when I get back home
But I'm curious to read all other opinions aswell :)

Since I'm not doing anything at the moment and there doesn't seem to be any answering to your post (yet), I'll humor you just this once. :silly2:

1 - Yes...else...why the heck would I still be playing the game? If I'm wrong...so be it....there's always other games to play.

2 - I reckon....probably 1000 pages still. (Unless MA gets its act together and do better...)

3 - Probably yes...and in 2015. But will it be the taming that we want? That...is a whole other question. (They had better be introduced by then...cause the deeds depends on it. Hahaha...)

4 - As many as we have now...the game probably can't take any more of them unless and until... (Yup...MA gets its act together...)

As for whether they will survive....I don't know. But at the very least, I doubt the planets will vanish...

5 - Don't know...I don't keep track of mod faps' markup... (It will never drop to "my" price...so why bother tracking? :tongue2:)

6 - Don't know...I don't keep track of mod mercs' markup... (It will never drop to "my" price...so why bother tracking? :yup:)

7 - MA will find a way to remove them...but only when the second half of what they promised kicks in...(the land claiming part). But I doubt all of them will be removed...as I for certain won't have enough to claim any lands.

Their price by then? I dunno...ask me later when i feel like selling...

I have a dream that one day ... my blog will allow me to retire and still live meaningfully well...

1. Sure EU will be here in 5 years, because basically MA have the power to adjust the game to suit their current customer base and therefore micro manage players to keep them interested. We are MA's pets.

2. I think this a direct relation to MU and size of stacks, much more loot will be tt'd if hard to sell or unaffordable to save up multi stacks for sale.

3. Absolutely, MA has made a commitment now with the sale of both stables and compet deeds, no going back really.

4. Unless a huge investor approaches MA I doubt we will see more planets now. It's more likely a failing planet would be sold for redevelopment rather than removed, although that would depend on satisfying a contractual exchange that all partied agree with. It is more likely MA will sell more assets it owns, via smaller deeds, such as space or smaller asteroids. MA has already indicated they intend to offer future deed sales.

5. Three major things can effect mod FAP prices; First one is deed revenue, do you hold 100K in deeds earning income even if not logged in, or own a mod fap to heal others at x per hour. Secondly continued issue of MM faps for hunters are likely to be issued as the years tick on. Lastly I see higher end L faps coming to compensate for bigger mobs, and more players with higher HP. MA issued L res pouch against 23K valued res chips at the time, so who knows. I'd say 80 - 100K for mod fap, unless big L are introduced.

6. Again, hold your money in income deeds, or own mod merc? It's a different game now. I know a few top end players running L. The game has ever more eco guns and other weapons to run, competing against mod merc. Remember mod merc is a eco gun, not a powerful beast of a weapon. I think it's days are numbered at top end prices, especially if you can own an LA or ton of deeds for same price. 5 years sales price 20K peds at most, more likely 10K of less. People need to think about the current market and choice within the economy, and get their head out of 2009.

7. I think it's highly likely MA have been buying CLD's back, I cannot see how they cant afford long term to keep returning 25% revenue deeds without huge increase in players. Ark have no deeds on their main planet, does this mean you get 25% more loot? If MA are buying them back slowly they wont buy all, if they are still getting good deposits from buyers it's in their interest to maintain some level of deeds in issue. It's interesting though that prices are 1300+ either successful LA owners hold a majority now, or there is less going around. Who knows...

I have a dream that one day I will look back and say 'I finally made it a success after all the years of trying'

Okay here are my answers:

1.Will there be Entropia Universe in 5 years (or whatever it might change it name to)
Yes i think Entropia will still be around in 5 years.

2.How many auctions pages total will be there be in 5 years? (right now it is bit over 1000 (total for all planets))
This is something that depends on many factors, including the planned "premium" features, so i can't predict that.

3.Will there be taming?
Mindark is raising funds via CompetDeeds, a system which is connected to taming system in Entropia, so yes i guess taming will be there.

4.How many planets will there be in 5 years and will all the current ones survive?
Planets who are managed properly will be the ones who are successful. Toulan is too young to give an indicaion, dunno about Cyrene, as it is in Beta stage for years now, but even in that state it is the third most active planet in the universe. Arkadia is the one with the brightest future it seems - mostly due to a highly dedicated dev and managment team. RT dunno tbh, but at the moment it seems even less active than Cyrene so it looks not too good for RT.

5.What is the markup of modified fap in 5 years?
We saw dropping ModHedocs which outperforms heal/sec. We saw Newbie FAPS arriving which outperform it in terms of eco, still the combination of such a strong heal and excellent eco has yet to be seen in new items. However in the long run the demand on the FAP will be lower when Imp/ModHedocs are more widely availabe for a cheaper price as there are player who are fine with the eco and do not have the demand in high eco. So i think it will slowly but gradually decline in value.

6.What is the markup of Mod Merc in 5 years?
We've seen quite a few high level weapons arriving over the last years which are close in eco and in dps to the ModMerc, it could very well be, even higher dps weapos arrive which outperform the ModMErc in dps and that would even more lower the demand on the ModMerc. In 5 yerars it will be still an expensive weapon, but it will never get again to 2008 prices, because better alternatives will be available.

7.Will the CLDs stay ingame or will MA find a way to remove them? If still ingame, what price are they going for in 5 years?
We will see a landscap of many different deeds, as it is a successfully proven model to raise funds. However the price will largely depend on their ROI - I think also CLD will be around when Mindark manages to raise the playerbase then it is very likely their ROI will increase and with the ROI their price, if the player base shrinks or remains the same prices are likely to remain at that level or even fall, in that case we will see them bouncing between 1100 PED and 1400 PED as it is now on different times in year and if it is time for people to raise funds for other upcoming opportunities.

here in 5?
1. yes, the players as a whole have far too much invested to completely abandon. Its big enough to sustain for a very long time, there are hundreds of thousands of dollars trading hands every day in EU. MA is in a good position to be able to take a % off of that kind of volume.

auctions
2. That is a good question, there are many factors that influence auction and really over the last 5 it has been within 800-1500 or so depending on season. I personally think the lower page count is due to a higher amount of concentrated shop sales on many planets. Shops were not being used as much universe wide with exception of Caly until the last year and a half or so. Also with more playerbase comes more networking in game for soc trades and person to person trades, as people get to know/trust each other.
........So I would venture to say it will be about the same 900-1300 pages overall unless we got a massive influx of players.

taming
3. yes, they probably wont actually implement until next year or 2016 knowing MA. Perhaps sooner.

Planets
4. I would guess we could see one or two more in the next 5 years if more players come in. They all can make money managed well. NI is probably making alot more bank than we assume with no costs, even at a trickle of income. RT is likely doing better with downsizing the costs. They all get visitors, and turnover. if we doubled population, they would all be doing very well IMO. People travel quite often in this game between planets lately.

mod fap
5. declining, MA is not very good at balance, mobs and players only get bigger. I predict a 10x increase in similar eco and healing power faps on the market.

mod merc
5. declining, MA is not very good at balance, mobs and players only get bigger, UL weapons keep getting discovered. I predict a 10x increase in similar eco and dps guns on the market.

cld
6. still around, though MA or its partners may buy it back slowly. In 5 years, original CLD owners have already recouped the investment, and then some. The total income alone per week (for just that portion overall) is proof that the economy is almost too big to fall apart, especially when the playerbase are the ones vested financially on nearly all of it.

1.Yes, I do believe so but everyone can be wrong :)

2. My guess is based on me believing that Entropia actually will get a breakthrough regarding number of active players. Within a year doable amount of auction listing. Within 5, based on wild guess and belief mentioned before, it will be 30k+

3.Will there be taming?

4. 7-8 around 5 years from now, and then a planet boom will take place again. All will not survive.

5. + 35k
6. + 75k

7.They are staying. Instead of taking income from all entropia they are locked to sectors of the map. Worth about the same and yeild about same.

1.Will there be Entropia Universe in 5 years
-Yes
2.How many auctions pages total will be there be in 5 years?
-I never care about that
3.Will there be taming?
-Yes
4.How many planets will there be in 5 years and will all the current ones survive?
-10-12 (And yeah everything will survive) some with missing arm and a leg
5.What is the markup of modified fap in 5 years?
-Who cares
6.What is the markup of Mod Merc in 5 years?
-Who cares
7.Will the CLDs stay ingame or will MA find a way to remove them? If still ingame, what price are they going for in 5 years?
-You are troll (if you are not - CLD will stay, MA wont remove them, price will be around 2k ped)

I have a dream that one day I will have more time to play and I will hit that ATH :yay:

1. Yes
2. 1600 (caly will decrease, ark and cyrene will increase, RT will remain the same, NI and toulan i don't know)
3. in 5 years time? sure :)
4. in 5 years, probably 1 more, I'm betting RT will be in limbo like NI is now (unless MA take over, turning them into a glorified Landarea)
5. mod fap, it's eco and heal per sec will never be matched, but better faps keep turning up so will drop, i'm betting to around 75k
6. Mod Merc will become a children's toy in 5 years i'd say 30k max in 5 years, more and more alternatives are dropping ingame
7. CLD will still be in game, combined with at least 4 other kinds of deeds (i'm betting on HELL deeds, or new ark deads first :eyecrazy:, then again it has been silent on caly front for quite some time now.....) Price won't increase too much because of all the alternatives. If there were no alternatives it would hit 2k, now i think 1400-1500 max in 5 years.

"I have a dream that one day, people will actually take a minute or two to think before they post on online forums"

1. Sure it will, most MMO's typically last for a very long time, even as their population decreases, and content grows dull. There's typically a minimal loyal fanbase.
2. I perceive that an increase in auction pages not a good thing, it suggests to me that there are more sellers than buyers for various items, hence the reason many items go without a bid. People "fight" for that tiny market of buyers, some win, most lose. Mindark wins regardless your item sells or not, so you relist but this time you ensure it sells. Increasing the page count may not be a good thing, unless your goal is to saturate a market, to bring pricing down.
3. I'm sure there will be taming and more. There will be useless features, and very cool features. If it involves earning an income for the company, all options are open. The company as a whole, has to take a little from every hobby.
4. In my opinion, there should be less interest in expansion, and more interest in generating interest in the game, to attract new gamers. Already the game seems like a ghost town most of the time to me in many areas, that's a bummer. However, I think financial obligations have Mindark stretched where they have to perform more financially to keep going. Luxury may have to take a back seat to obligation, which suggests to me why we have fund raising in the form of deeds today. I'm not clear why, but ponzi seems to come to mind, where much depends on the newest entries to the world. I personally hope there are no more than what we have today, until the population can grow into what is provided.
7. They would never remove them, no need for that. They can simply modify the payout as they see fit for operation, but it would never drop completely to zero. While we can see now, they will never rise in payout given their current standing, they will only continue to fall unless measures are taken to introduce new people to this game. It will make no difference to Mindark what happens to the price, after Planet Calypso is paid for, the rest is gravy. Like all things, it would appear to be a very slow gradual decline, not a fast acellerated freefall.

Closing:
I've been a gamer for 30 years, online and offline, owned most hardwares ever offered, gamed in compitition, and completed many thousands of titles in my time. MMO's have been some of the most enjoyable experiences to date. Entropia Universe, while beautiful in scope, offers a very high difficulty of gameplay for the average individual, one where they typically will not stay for very long - I perceive this to be a flaw - it largely skews the total of registered accounts, against those that are active. The various environment and actions that make up EU, can be experienced elsewhere independently, but not all at once like it is here within one world. The casino that makes up EU, is highly intriguing for sure, but the game is built on a hope. There is still much work to do to make this a world class title. Yes it is true that fortunes can be made, but most people do not, perhaps they simply enjoy above average MMO playstyle. Graphics, well there's other titles that can beat out EU, both in story and repetitious type nature. Storywise, Final Fantasy 11 and 14 destroys everything story based, and offers scenery to boot. Population, well, I think we can see we are relatively lacking here in EU, compared to most other titles that "only" require a subscription base. That means your financial survival comes based upon subpar participation of community numbers.

With the introduction of land type deeds, it suggests to me that this developer has difficulty finding funding. That's a negative outlook on a title in my opinion. However, this can be a measure of health of the economy, as you most likely won't find these deeds to increase in payout value. If these represent the economy as a whole in partial amounts divided among individuals, it showcases the income trend of the title, which is in decline. As for the economy itself, it amazes me that there's so much "fight" for razor thin profits in this game, especially among the high dollar traders on auction. It's very competitive, and that hurts moral, is if you lose most often, how long will you really stick around?

The bottom line is this for me. I'm from the US, and not once, never once have I ever seen an EU advertisement in my life prior to joining this game. Maybe I'm out of the loop and just missed everything offered, but I've never seen one outside of being in the club, and going online to see it. I've seen every other title out there across the spectrum. It was through my own online research in wanting to try something new, that I tried this title. It was very unfriendly at first, which is why I went away for years. Coming back on and off, it's still not all that friendly. Investing many hours in research, chipping in, playing eco with dozen of skills in the thousands, it's still blah. Maybe it's me, but I expect more "something" from all the hours of research invested, ped invested, etc. If I feel this way, how does the average noob feel, who may not scrape up 5-10 ped in their entire time here? Maybe they try a week, deposit $20, then quit? That's NOT a sustainable game model.

While I don't claim to have the answers, I do know this. This title has the highest learning curve of all titles, with little enticement to keep newbies sticking around. There's that rare gem that's up to the challenge, he'll stick around and invest heavily. Without new blood, you have absent planets, former avatars retiring, and CLD's that continue to decline in value. Without new blood, without the advertising, you have people scavenging off a declining population base. How long does a model like this last? I can't tell you that, I will speculate Entropia Universe, if it doesn't do a massive overhaul of it's advertising campaign, will implode upon itself in the future. Most sucessful MMO's toss out their paying member count, why don't we have anything like this?

I would love for the title to flourish, but I just don't see it as anything but getting by. That said, I've played my piece, enjoyed my time here for a short while, will be moving on again soon. May come back around to keep the account active. "That'" is what I'm talking about, great titles keep people around consistantly.

Can't understand why anyone expect playerbase breakthrough with every new system added to game like taming or battle pets ?
CE2 introduction was biggest event so far which changed nothing in terms of playerbase.

"I have a dream that one day ..."
  1. yes
  2. possibly as high as 1300
  3. yes,but it be as "much" used and popular as makeup
  4. Probably 1 more. NI seems to be an example of planets don't go away. I am not sure if RT and Cyrene survive or get taken over by MA.
  5. About half as much as now if they fix the FAP sib ladder, 75% of present otherwise.
  6. If there will be effective post level 100 weapons, 33% of what it is now, 50% otherwise.
  7. No idea.

I have a dream that one day, EU gameplay will actually be exciting, not a boring point and click.

1. EU will exist but it might only be in the form a web page battle arena. As PC's become less and less important the current EU may cease to exist as it becomes less of the focal point of MA.

2. Only a few if the above happens.
3. Yes but not as we knew it.
4. We may see one or two additional planets but they may not be from PP's but more like the Moon that was sold.
5. Depends if things continue to progress we may see items replacing them that are far better and so the MU might crash as we have seen with a many old UL items.
6. See my answer for 5.
7. Well CLD's are for Calypso if the EU we know it ends and who ever owns Calypso ceases trading because of it then they're worthless. We may see a goodwill gesture for some Compet deeds or something similar.

Future of Entropia Universe ?

I thought we all came to agree, the sky IS falling.

1. no. at least not as we currently know it. i dont want it to go, i hang around in the hope it returns to something enjoyable, and it should be around, but the annual accounts tell you the direction of travel. the management have taken it as far as they are willing or able to. the main problem imo is RCE isnt working as its not a real economy, its just a game economy using real cash. many in the gaming world dont like the concept, they see it as pay to win, which it is, and are opposed to that model. i think it more likly that another game, as yet unknown, takes up the RCE/decay/micropayments concept and makes it into something that works. because the wider public *do* like that concept, as we see from the massive market for mobile/app gaming, that rely on small payments. this is MA strategy, to hedge their bets, though i believe if that is successfull it will mean they become disinclinded to invest in, or maybe even to continue with the main game.

A curious "What if" scenario runs through my mind...

Minecraft just got sold for 2,5 B $ - how much beter EU is ?

/snip/

Okay now here's a case in point of something that crossed my mind today while I was sitting playing afforementioned game(s)..

and let's play a little game of "What if.."

Let's say a company (and I'm refering to any gaming company out there, be it MS, be it EA, be it Blizzard/Activision, even Rockstar..

Now then let's say that this company, whoever it would be would approach the developers of this game (yes I'm talking about Entropia Universe). Took a long hard look at the game and then said..

"Hey we'll buy your game out for x amount of US Dollars..) (you can must it with any value from say 10 million to the aforementioned 2.5 billion...)

Now what would the players do if such a thing happen? I can tell you one thing.. and this isn't coming from tis other accquisition, but from the fact that this game is a Real Cash economy, an RCE as y9ou will..

What would the company do if such a thing ever did happen.. and how would most of the players respond for both legal and illegal activities in game..

Take two examples.. Multis (multiple accounts and of curse Market Maniulation and scamming.. Would this new company be like MA is now? or would they really crack down on the Market manipulators and the scammers, the Speed Hackers in space, and of course all those players who have created Alternate Accounts.. I mean what would happen then?

I bet now I got someone's attention... if not, I'll contiue with this rable..

Got a nice Big Fat Juicy Hof? how about taking some of that Money out?

Oh wait, the new company just wants us to put in but not get out.. and let them gather all our hard earned dough.. and for what/

Hmmm where would the game be in 5 years if the company MA did sell out, and where would it be if it didn't.. It's pretty clear what most people are thinking about now.. and maybe they should start having a few sleepless nights to mull over the situation..

Cause sooner or later, some company might get the bright notion like a certain company did and buy out this game... and then the real question is.. where will this game really be?

It's a sobering thought (or if you prefer to drink.. Grab a case of beer, a bottle of scotch, a4 liters of Jolt/Surge), and get ready to have those long sleepless nights..

Cause in the world of weather, they say lightning doesn't strike twice.. but in the world of gaming.. It could happen.. after all to be honest Lightning in nature strikes 50 times in that one flash you see.. so hey if it can happen to them, it can happen to us.. It's just a real issue of whther someone will be smart (or dumb) enough to buy this game if they so chose to do.....

That's the real shocker.. Think about it this way and replace this guys' one comment and replace the game name with Entropia Universe.. and you'll see, that things would change.. some for the better, some fo rthe worse.. But then that's n yhour mind.. and mine..

Interesting, but... I see this happening more to compets....

Well, it did impact. A ton of people left after the CryEngine update.... and also....the bugs. Bugs everywhere I tell you.

Right...all i meant was that EU now has one of the best gfx in MMO world, and minecraft proved that it's not important at all. You can have millions of players even with huge, 8bit like pixels.

MA effort to improve gfx was futile, howeven when CE2 was introduced all of MA staff and even players wwas thinking oposite ( wishfull it was ). MA turned out to be too small company to handle that process painfully.

I was always telling that MA is not focusing on "big picture" plan or core elements of bussines. CE2, pets and other crap is not important. Money spent for CE2 could be spent on some economy specialist who might cure economy ,balancing and additionaly their bussines model as those seems strugling some care and resources.

Right...all i meant was that EU now has one of the best gfx in MMO world, and minecraft proved that it's not important at all. You can have millions of players even with huge, 8bit like pixels.

Do you play minecraft ?

No, why u ask ?

You tell MA to learn from Minecraft, but you play EU not Minecraft

For some people CE2, pets and other crap is very important. If my avatar moved like in SC now I was not going to play EU.

btw I think MS just bought MC. Lets hope we don't see EU exlusively only on XBOX

I've been playing Skyrim a lot recently and after a few weeks I'd thought I'd log into EU and it just hit me with how dated EU looks now.

Mostly it's down to the textures and how empty the landscapes are.

To end this survey please finish sentence below:
"I have a dream that one day ..."

1. Yes.
2. Same
3. Yes, but not like old times.
4. 3
5. Still high
6. Higher than it should be.
7. No. They will be removed or nerfed, possibly brutally, because they don't care. MA has a history of this behavior.

I have a dream that someday I will find an mmo that is interesting, fun to play, and inexpensive.

Now imagine if MA had not switched to CE ...

I'm going on an odd one here today...but yes, EU probably would still have a lot of players with this basic graphics based game. Also like what we may see, sorry again, with MineCraft 2.0. Microsoft will dump the basic Java based game and rebuild it with better graphics and all kind of new features. With this new version Microsoft adds more bugs and a platform that a lot of kids in the world can't play because they don't have the system to do it. Also it looses that basic brick building game theme so many seem to love for some reason. So yes, almost sounds like what MA went through.

Now getting back to myself: I support CE2 fully! :yay: Not sure if I would even be here now if not for CE2 version.

1. no. at least not as we currently know it. i dont want it to go, i hang around in the hope it returns to something enjoyable, and it should be around, but the annual accounts tell you the direction of travel. the management have taken it as far as they are willing or able to. the main problem imo is RCE isnt working as its not a real economy, its just a game economy using real cash. many in the gaming world dont like the concept, they see it as pay to win, which it is, and are opposed to that model. i think it more likly that another game, as yet unknown, takes up the RCE/decay/micropayments concept and makes it into something that works. because the wider public *do* like that concept, as we see from the massive market for mobile/app gaming, that rely on small payments. this is MA strategy, to hedge their bets, though i believe if that is successfull it will mean they become disinclinded to invest in, or maybe even to continue with the main game.

Well said! Second that.
