Offensive Avatar and Team Names

Status
If this game really is for mature audiences, friggin act like it. Put freedom of speech aside and like a decent human being.

Who are you, or anyone else, to decide what being mature means? Maybe realizing that being offended by WORDS is silly is being mature. Being upset by sounds made by vocal cords to communicate thoughts (and by extension, typing out words) is ridiculous. What if I told everyone that goggleplop meant something 'rude'? Would you then be offended by goggleplop? What if I told you that spoonface was a racist term for Asian people? Would you be offended from now on? No. People have been told for generations what words are 'bad' and we then decide they are offensive words. !!!! (C word) was a common, poetical/theatrical word long ago until some uptight goggleplop decided they didn't like it. Now we are offended by it.

If nothing else, this thread has helped me decide who the morons are. Myself ? I am personally not offended but I don't want to be stuck in a game with children and their infantile minds and I certainly don't want the rest of the world to pass over playing this game because of it. Maybe you think your opinions are of the majority, but I assure you they are not. I haven't even mentioned what most women will think about a team name like that.
You want to make a dirty team name so you can tee hee to yourself when you see it on the hof board ? Good for you. You are like the class clown from school days. We know where most of those people end up later in life.
You wish to talk about free speech ? I'm pretty certain the idea of free speech didn't come about so we could protect immature profanity.

spoonface

Totes gonna use that from now on, fanx.

In other thread related news, little tip, this game is gambling which is an over 18 activity. Surely it would be more irresponsible creating a child friendly (or sensitive-friendly, which is the same thing imo) environment to then subsequently expose them to gambling of the equivalent to a slot machine?

But nah, OP doesn't like pussyfucking so we should ban all bad words.

Why not only allow communication through set phrases like a kiddy game?

Hi

How are you

Want to trade

YEAH

That would sum up all phrases needed right?

Well, maybe a hidden "MA are cunts" but hey ho.

I haven't even mentioned what most women will think about a team name like that.

Maybe you need to be less fucking misogynistic? Just because it offends your pretty little brain doesn't mean it offends 99% of other rational human beings, wanker.

Actually, I've had a second thought on this one.

What that teamname translates to, in direct English, is "Have normal consensual sex with her".

What exactly, apart from thesaurusal ambiguity, would you prefer this team to write? "R4pe her right in the ass"?

Just a thought, dickhead.

Have you ever even seen a pussy off screen ?

I just +repped every fuck in this thread.

"You must spread reputation around before giving it to this fucker again"

--

OnT: Yes. Some guidelines should be in place and followed. If anyone feels offended by these team names, file a support case with a printscreen of the name and timestamp. Now, even though I found the one in the OP a bit funny, there are plenty of them out there that are just pure bullshit.

You can assure us we are not in the majority? You most certainly can not prove either majority. Oh, where did the class clowns end up? I was a class clown, and I graduated top of my class. And I know females who find this kind of stuff funny.

Also, I know of a few other majorities that were proven wrong. A majority once supported slavery. A majority once banned women from voting and working. A majority used to be against legal marijuana. A majority once was against gay marriage. Oh wow, the times be a changing! Maybe people who are easily offended will fall by the way side, if they even are a majority, which you cannot prove anyways.

Mature game has mature language

Chill, life is too short.

This social popularisum, to ban, seek apologies, and judge others in some sort witch hunt becomes boring.

In fact if anything this thread, can make a situation worse.

I wont lose any sleep anyhow

I've come to expect to encounter just about anything in EU names (or game elements) at this point, but that's not completely independent from me also realizing i can never recommend the game to anyone I know. There's a difference between a mature audience and an immature audience, as suggested by a common saying "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."

I agree with comments about free speech. It's like real world...if I wanted to walk down the street and repeat the word F*CK over and over, do I expect the police to stop me? Freedom. :wtg:

However, it's in bad taste, and I find the example given above, and the team name with the vulgarity to be both insensitive and childish. Just because you "can" doesn't mean you should. Why would you use this as a team name anyway? If you're a young teen an use that as an excuse for your ignorance...fine. You're immature and you'll grow out of it. If you're a grown person and still feel the need to advertise the F-bomb or imply the act of sex publicly in global chat for everyone to read, then you're a twat. Grow up. There's something wrong with you mentally if you don't see this as a problem.

+rep for OP.

Pretty much what Knewb said.
Only immature people use the excuse of 'free speech' to act irresponsible.

Maybe you need to be less fucking misogynistic? Just because it offends your pretty little brain doesn't mean it offends 99% of other rational human beings, wanker.

He probably should have said 'ladies' instead of 'women'.

Sadly, It's beginning to look that way.

Maybe you think your opinions are of the majority, but I assure you they are not.

Why is it that, every time someone wants to tell the rest of the world what to do, they always assure everyone that their opinion is shared by the majority? And why is it that everyone who disagrees is a "moron"?

You've expressed your opinion. Fine.
People disagreed. Fine.
Now, you've moved on to name-calling. Hmmm.

Maybe it's time to take a breath, do a forum search, and realize that this is far from the first time that this topic has been discussed.

I agree, I should try harder to be like an alaskan lady...

But she doesn't swear, so, must be tip-top, right?

The problem here is anonymity. If there was a way to look up the names of team members from globals channel and/or HoF list, people would think twice before trolling, and three times before trolling Taco.

I don't know what kind of spirit-world black computer magic mumbo-jumbo you used to find that mod-removed post of mine, but I love you for it! That was some of my finest work...thank you :D

Also, to the rest of you, I obviously have no problem with swear words...fuck that, they are fine...BUT you are all missing what is truly offensive about that team name:

What offends me the most about it is how cliche, mundane, and unimaginative it was. I mean, jesus christ..."fuck her in the pussy"??? Seriously? That is the most lame team name I have ever heard. Next time try "Pee on me as I shove grapes in your twin-sisters asshole" or something. Lameness offends me more than swear words. Think of something better next time, you missionary-style fucking virgin fucks.

Ive seen videos of people saying those exact words while newscasters are live on the air.

Sadly, It's beginning to look that way.

And fucking epic! :yay:I have to agree, very unimaginative, but now I know what's good and what's fucking awesome! Grapes.... Fuck ya! :yup:

/mod note/

The use of sexually oriented language and imagery seems to be a hot topic lately, so I'll go into some detail.

Sexually explicit or sexually offensive content is not permitted in Entropia.

Terms of Use said:
8d. You may not take any action, post, communicate, upload or otherwise use any content, including text, images and sounds, that MindArk, at its sole and absolute discretion determines to be sexually explicit, racially, ethnically, religiously or sexually offensive, hateful, vulgar, defamatory, libelous, harassing or threatening to another person or organization or otherwise objectionable. This includes communications in the Entropia Universe and in any other website or forum with connection to the Entropia Universe.

If you find an avatar name, team name or any other content particularly offensive, lodge a support case with a timestamped screenshot.

While I'm on this topic, this forum also has rules about profanity and inappropriate imagery:

Forum Rules said:
2.7 - Profanity
Profanity in thread titles or user titles is NOT permitted. Profanity in posts should be kept to a minimum, and not be used in a comment directed at other members, Forum Staff members, Entropia Universe planet partner representatives or MindArk representatives. While generalizations using profanity and/or foul language may be common in everyday conversation, when used in a direct communication to another person, they can be interpreted as rude or insulting. Excessively profane content may be edited or deleted without notice, and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice, depending on severity.

4.3 - Objectionable Image Content

Pornographic, sexually explicit or excessively violent imagery is NOT permitted anywhere on PlanetCalypsoForum. Obscene images, pornography, or offensive content related to gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and any other imagery or language that the Forum Staff deems inappropriate will be deleted without notice. This rule also applies to avatar, profile and signature images. In most cases, a member will be sent a private message requesting that the image in question be replaced, unless the material is extremely offensive in the Forum Staff's sole discretion, in which case it will be immediately removed without notice. Any such posting may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum.

Some here seem to think that 'being adult' means being able to swear.
It doesn't.
Any 2year old can swear - and will do so with great frequency and relish, in public and private, until their parents teach them that it's not ok.
And then often all over again during the 'youth rebellion' phase of growing up. :eyecrazy:

Children and youths - those whose brains are still in development - may not have sufficient maturity of the relevant sections of their brain (like the Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex) to yet to exhibit mature self-control. And so, they may need more direction and guidance in what's appropriate in a given context.

'Being adult' to me means that you are sufficiently mature to be able to distinguish when and where things are appropriate; To have an impulsive thought, but enough capacity for intelligence and self-control to not act on it.

We're a global community, and what might be acceptable language in one country may not be acceptable in others.
Members have said fairly often that they access this forum from work.
What goes on in here is also an advert for the game itself - potential new players will often access a forum to scope out the community - and if the whole forum has degenerated to crude language and sexual innuendo it doesn't show the game in good light.
Also, both the game and forum have age limits: participants must be over 18, or over 13 with parent/guardian approval.
That puts its 'rating' as somewhere in the PG13A+ category.

Different countries have some different categories and definitions in their ratings guidelines.
For example, in the US, R rating is 'Restricted – under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian'.
In Australia, R rating is actually R18+ 'Restricted to persons 18years and over'

PGA13+ (ie must be 13yrs or over, Parent/Guardian Approval required if under 18) is a bit of a tricky one to find a good set of guidelines for, as in most cases PG 13 is about 'parental approval requires if under 13'

Reading through a bunch of different ones that I can find English language descriptions for, it looks like these are the main descriptors of what would be acceptable for the age group:

Violence: Some strong violence is acceptable, but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. Significant gore is unlikely to be acceptable. Any sexual violence should be discreet and be strongly justified in context.
Note: No explicit or implicit threat of RL violence is permitted on any part of this forum.

Nudity: Nudity in a sexual content is restricted, but non-sexual nudity may be permitted in context.
Note: Screenshots of ingame mobs like boorum is fine. RL nudity or sexually explicit images isn't.

Language: Frequent use of strong language can be permitted, although very strong language needs to be restricted and would have to be seen as reasonable in the context. Frequent usage of very strong language would be seldom allowed. Crude humor should be 'moderate'.
Note: Mods will generally overlook the occasional use of simple coarse language when used in context.
Members who repeatedly use very strong language are likely to get a PM from a moderator with a request to tone it down.
Continued use of frequent very strong language after such a request may result in a temp ban.
