Question: Justified? You decide!

Let me preface this by saying I don't agree with what Northern Stray Titan did. If you don't like long dramas then maybe skip this one , otherwise break out the popcorn!

This didn't happen in space but I has everything to do with my SOC Nebula Virus Elite which many of you know from space.

That being said here is what happened.

Me and Cursor(soc mate) were on the island attempting to tame a sapphire devil when along comes Northern Stray Titan.....

There you have it a sad story for some a victory for others. Now vote!

We had a war against a whole soc for the evil deeds of a few individuals. It happened in another game, years ago. We killed them all over and over on revivals. As a result this whole soc disappeared, only a few ppl remained ingame. This war was so cruel that developers had to create safe zones around revivals as a result.
Later 2 ppl from this "evil soc" became my best friends and we fought many glorious battles side by side...

Back then there was no doubt in my mind that our violence was well justified.
Now, in a hindsight i regret those extreme measures.
Therefore i say - unjustifiable.


edit: I can say for Xane, he's a pirate who kills ppl and takes their loot, but at the same time he's also a man of honor, way more so than many "peaceful" ppl in this game. If this make any sense to you.

Well, OP is part of a soc that abuses people using the game mechanics, I don't see anything wrong with anyone else doing the same towards him. Both are legal, no matter how much discomfort it causes.

I understand what your saying and to clarify that most people in my soc don't abuse people...in fact I have never witnessed any abuse but I don't see everything.

My main question I guess is this; If someone does something to you that you find abusive or bad in general and you turn around and do the same thing to someone else that was just as innocent as you WERE what does that make you?

The reason space pirates "pirate" has nothing to do with being an "asswhipe". We aren't being mean to anyone or trying to hurt people. It is a competition between you and me for potential loot. I stand to gain something and so do you. There is a big difference between defeating someone in a competition where you stand a chance to gain something and hurting someone just to hurt them.

You can call it stealing if you want.....not very accurate but that's fine. Whatever you want to call it there's no denying what the motivation is for doing it. I personally have no problems with piracy, but there are plenty of people in your Soc harassing others, lying, cheating and being dicks in general which gives the Soc a bad image.

I don't know you, but I know there are a few good people in NVE. What you should do is to break out and form a new society. That way you would not have to put up with shit like you described in the OP.

I'm more fascinated than surprised. It's just interesting to me that he considers himself part of the "good people" but fails to stop himself from doing the "bad people" things.

He admitted to "dying inside" after killing the sapphire as he should. He comprised what believes in I assume.

I'm no saint I've done plenty to be labeled a hypocrite so I know what one looks like. Like i said it's interesting to me.

Provocation has a subjective element: Some people like to provoke by teasing, others by insulting you, calling your family members names, smashing your car windows or hitting you in the face. What you you judge as 'acceptable' provocation and what is 'unacceptable' depends on your own views and habits.

This guy claims that his actions are covered by the EULA and acceptable game action according to MA. So he found a reason why he could act that way.

As i understand you - you treat NVE not as soc but rather bunch of individuals that have common chat and "vision" of gameplay. If i am right about this then here is the bigest hmm... "missunderstanding"... :
Most people (including me) consider socs as groups with one or few leaders that take partial resposibility as group and if someoe does somethign wrong - there is investigation made and then decision that mayby person who did something wrong beloning to group should be kicked out or not.
If you treat soc as group of individuals that have no responsibility to each others and have no main leader then obviously this can't work that way.

Mayby if you understand this you will understand "why" people think you should either leave NVE or talk with other members who harmed others and either make them apologise or kick them out.

I do not like to take sides really but then i really do not like pirates in general so intuitively i take a bit Northern side on this (i would say 75%/25%). Revenge is usually bad and does not give relieve but i admit that under strong emotions i would have done exactly the same as he did.

Now the real problem:
obvisouly more incidents like this will happen. To solve this completly. Make all pets look the same and let them turn to be rare after sucesfull taming (with small chance). Noone will try to steal, jelous kill or whatever - if they can't tell the difference if the pet is rare or not just by the looks and name of te pet.

I already filled support case to change this - more people will do it the bigger chance MA will change it.

Then I don't know what the point of a soc is. Want a group of friends? Then just form a chat channel - invite only. All I end up knowing is what some actions some of your soc members do - and I then want nothing to do with anyone in said soc in any shape or form. You might go on to say you don't give a $hit. If someone wants to go off with getting no respect (not even fear), avoidance, and hate, then well - whatever floats your boat.

Well if I would be shot down in lootable PvP and looted, and afterwards see this guy taming a rar pet, well no way he has success, needs only 1 shot

Now that I went back and read all the chat text - I don't see your issue here. So it seems like several people were trying to tame the same mob at once (which is allowed) and it died in the process. I can see how this borders "mob stealing" and the decent thing to do would be just leave the people alone - but with rare pets -it at least is "justifiable".
But I also saw you say "I don't care about the rules." So WTF, anything you say about what is fair/unfair after that is total BS.

If you associate with a (crowd, group, gang, click, etc..) publicly then you represent that group (be it good or bad). It really doesn't matter if your society doesn't work that way. That is the way society works. People view you by the company you keep.

Now.. Would I have done the same in that situation? Probably not.. might have made some snide remark or something but I wouldn't have killed the mob out from under the guy.

But then again, I kinda care about how my actions are viewed and the company I keep.

About the rar PETs had an similar incedent with some member of DACHS soc.
Not that I don´t like DACHS, I like them.
There was rar PET, next to this DACHS guy actually attacking him, while he was busy taming another PET, comon one.
So I started taming attempt whipping the rar one.

Guy: He is stealing my PET
Other Guy from DACHS soc: Who?
Guy: GoNi
Guy started whipping same PET
bang PET dead
Guy: He killed my PET
Me: It was not me killing it

If me being innocent "ie abiding by the law" was told by a so called "friend" if I could drop him off somewhere in town, we then arrive at the destination, he then tells me to wait for him and suddenly I hear alarms, sirens, and gun shots, he then comes back into the car with a gun, a sack of money, even wearing a mask and shouting DRIVE!!! Are you not guilty by association? The law clearly says: you are an accessory to that crime being committed by your so called friend and serve the same sentence, even though he never told you where, why and what he was planning to do, you are still guilty as charged.

I think I would be driving the car since he jumped in with a gun and I'm allergic to lead but I'd be looking for my next opportunity to distance myself from them.
