Looking for a crew (Pirate)

Yeah.

The crew keeps whatever profits are made on each run. The deposit exists solely to ensure that the ship is not stacked with people who intend to idle during combat and inconvenience other participants.

If they like it, and find themselves making money, great. They can opt to re-invest in a year. If they dont like it, and find themselves not recouping their investment, they are entitled to a full refund at the end of the year.

My only caveat is they dont deliberately try to fuck with other crewmembers or compromise the integrity of the ship.

Very easy pirate rules to follow: You sail, you get part of the plunder. You screw up, you walk the plank (ie: You are removed from guest list, and we will find a replacement. Thank you for your interest. There will be no refunds for slackers and spies.)

Is that easy enough to follow, or am I being obtuse?

Pirates.... Rules???!!! sounds insane. "dont deliberately try to fuck with other crewmembers or compromise the integrity of the ship." that's what pirates I have seen do in this game 24/7. good luck trying to no do to yourselves as you do to others.

I wish this game really had fun pirating as an aspect.. sadly though because it is all linked to real money you will always get hard feelings.

GL.. i think

 My, my. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

When space was first announced to be a PVP location, I tried to organize a "pirate crew" much like this. The business model was 5 simple steps:

  1. Transport folks safely from planet to planet for a fee
  2. Attack other transports as much and as often as possible to disrupt the competition
  3. Attack all other flyers who do not use our transportation
  4. ...
  5. Profit

The group I envision included:

  • A large main ship
  • When needed, multiple smaller, faster ships would depart the mothership to act as defenders, attackers, etc. depending on the needs
  • Small groups of ships would scout areas looking for and attacking other flyers
Keep in mind my vision was before space PVP was even open and the ships and everything were ingame yet.

I was negotiating with two large well know pvp socs at the time. Unfortunately, things could not come together.

Now we have someone who's putting together a transport ship that will attack all others. Sounds familiar. Although I was not requiring a security deposit. That's new.

Good luck with your adventure, Magyar, and good luck (except against me of course.)

Finally a magyar thread worthy of reading. Good luck on the high seas.

How are you deciding which captain makes the decisions?

How are you deciding which captain makes the decisions?

First come first serve. If you log in and/or contact me before everyone else that day (I'll provide contact info including phone and skype - its pretty easy, my phone # is on my facebook already, as well as my domain registrar. I'm very accessible.), you get to fly until you are done. Then you hand it off to the next captain that logs in for the day, etc. My goal is to try to have the ship operating as close to 24x7 as possible.

If you don't find the crew your looking for you can always let NVE run the ship and give you a cut of the loot

Funny you mention that. During this entire year I will not be taking a cut of any loot. All proceeds belong to the active crew. If I happen to be manning a chair, I'll get whatever I deserve for making shots. Nothing more.

I'm not doing this for a cut of the loot, or personal profit off killing vessels. I'm doing this because I think its a fun idea.

Well good luck with all this I hope you get a decent crew together and I understand the need for a deposit mainly to keep people in check.

Like John said an effective pirate ship would likely need smaller support ships, how do you see these playing a role in XI's operations?

Good luck to you Magyar. With space missions coming out I believe it's just a matter of time before more people want to get involved in the pvp aspect of space and piracy. So I'm not surprised to see a thread like this. I'm sure we'll be seeing lots more, if the space missions reveal themselves to be worthwhile. (jury is still out on that)

You are one of those people that never gave a damn about what people thought of you, so this will be interesting to watch develop. :)

I'm on the other side of the fence of course, but that doesn't mean that I can't wish you good luck in your plans.

Sitting on the same "fence" as RavenJade, I can only agree with her.

The "Theory" in the OP is quite good. Maybe not sound ... but good. Something for other "Services" / "Ship Owners" to consider if the "conditions" are right.

Sadly, I fear that in "Practice" it will fail as the "conditions" are not right.

Please Note:
The last time I made a grief comment in regards to this subject/"Transport Missions" I got "Bad Repped" by someone.(rightly so too if I might add). I will try to address this later and attempt to give some reasoning behind my beliefs.

I dont need to wish you good luck, I already know how this will go.

:yup:

Ask all the pirates out there to join you ... oh wait .. they are to poor to pay the peds needed

A very interesting approach and a much enjoyable endeavor if u ask me. Ignore the haters as the forum consists of 90% whiners anyways.

My only suggestion is you need to come up with better terms and conditions then just "first come, first serve" with something like fair usage policy. So some work needs to be done wrt the rules etc. I find the terms for removal from program a bit subjective, as in "spies" etc you need to formulate how and what constitutes spying. Personally, I would say remove the clause and make the deposit refundable after 1 year for everyone, but ban those from using the service who are found to be of questionable intent.

Wish you all the best with your effort.

Not that Im active in game at the moment, but well done trying to add another side to the game. Fun whats that???? lol

No... it is not just a video game...it is a real cash economy, why would anyone allow a mugger to offer them safe escort home for pay?
So you want crew to pay for the chance to go pirate and throw away their in-game rep.
A heads up – they can go pirate for the price of a quad, and no need to split anything with you or the crew.

Its a game - its a pay to play game - the RCE aspect to it, does not make it any more or less of a game.

Good luck to the Pirates - maybe a safe passage service as well?

Good luck Magyar!

Personally never had any hate for pirates (except the exploiters of course) even though I've been looted a few times. Plenty of ways NOT to lose your money in space, and it's always nice to see someone shaking things up a bit.

+REP
This covers a couple of problems I saw with this offer.

If this works then it will at least make things a little more interesting in space.

I am ready to become pirate, but only if you pay good :smoke:

I do think things will spice up in space when the cargo missions are launched. As no longer will it be about looting peoples passengers, but a sort of Box grab going on. The lines of piracy may well be blurred. From the current killing of innocent travellers, to a more land grab/mission box grab style of play. So this sort of concept isn't surprising. Ma will of course encourage PvP as its free peds for them.

In saying that, there are several major flaws in the concept described in the OP, however as the OP is doing this for fun, I am sure some of the fun will lie in finding that out :)

Do you have any positions available for butt pirates? Tacotuesday, wifi, and chasemlb would like to apply.

Good Feedback.

I'll have to work it out with the captains. I wouldnt reasonably expect anyone to sit behind a desk 24 hours a day, ultimately they would have to sleep, go to the supermarket, go to work, etc. So I believe it will work itself out pretty nicely. 5 captains may not be enough, but I'll talk it over with the crew as its assembled and flesh it out so everyone understands.

With regards to a refundable deposit for everyone, that takes the consequences away. I may as well not charge one. Its pretty simple what I'm doing here. I'm opening a forum where the ship crew can offer feedback and criticism. If someone is bad at their job the crew will let them know. Enough complaints and I will open a poll to remove the offender. The decision belongs to the crew. I dont sit over them with a crown a sceptre playing God.

1) That cant work, because then people will feel threatened by me and behave differently when I am around.
2) That would take up too much of my time, to stand there and watch every movement of every crew member. It's impossible.

I'll let the people who witness the actions of others decide their fate. My only role in it will be to adjudicate when a poll is opened. This way we avoid frivolous removals because somebody simply is not well liked as a person. I'll keep tabs on that.

All Butt Pirate positions have been filled. I hear however that Rump Rangers can be a viable alternative, if you like the forest.

Will you be a "white hat" pirate or a "black hat" pirate?

The only thing a hat is good for is keeping the rain off your head!

Congratulations on your acquisition of a warpship :woot:

Good thinking on your part to call yourself a pirate ship at the start. Why let jealous business competitors affix that label on you when it suits them?
One problem though - the term "pirate ship" has become meaningless. You may not be aware (if you have been living under a rock with no Internet) that jealous business competitors throw "pirate ship" accusations against warpships that have never looted anyone.
I suggest for sake of clarity to specify you are a "looting ship". This should make it clear to everyone :)

Looking forward to fighting with you when the cargo missions come out - may the best slugger win! :yay:

Oh for fucks sake.. give it a rest. That cheap shot isn't even relevant to this thread.

The timing is better now, gl
