711,

Is PCF now owned by MA? Someone posted that in the budget report thread.

And if so, what are the plans for PCF? Who will be running it? etc

Didn't MA bought PCf few years ago and 711 was just administrating here for them?

EDIT: or more specifically

  • Jan. 2005 - EntropiaForum founded by MindBuster
  • Aug. 2006 - 711 takes over administration of EntropiaForum
  • Sep. 2010 - FirstPlanetCompany (FPC) signs an agreement to acquire the EntropiaForum database and transfer it to PlanetCalypsoForum.com as the official Planet Calypso forum. 711 hosts and administrates PCF as a contractor of FPC.
  • Nov. 2010 - EntropiaForum is relaunched with a completely new database and a new focus on all Entropia Universe planets.
  • Jan. 2011 - See Digital Studios (SDS) takes over FPC. The existing agreement governing the forum sale is inherited by SDS (including all outstanding payments due). A new website management contract (hosting/administration of PCF) is signed with SDS.
  • May 2011 - SDS ceases making payments as agreed in the PCF sales agreement, and ceases making payments as agreed in the website management contract. Nevertheless, 711 continues to operate PCF in the interest of keeping the community resource available (along with free hosting continuing to be provided for EntropiaTracker and Entropedia on the EntropiaRadio server).
  • Jun. 2011 - Cooperation between MindArk and SDS is terminated due to non-payment by SDS. Responsibility and control of Planet Calypso reverts to MindArk.

201880 sek is merely US$24k, can't be PCF.

How much do you think a forum of vipers is worth without any advertising or revenue to speak of? :)

No.

It does say purchase of planet calypso forum!
But the domain was already owned by MA so mor than likely they just bought the database.
And yes, $24k seems more than enough for a niche forum with limited ads.

Any chance it could be a renewal of the domain....nope scrap that idea, its stupid. 24k for a domain renewal.

Database sounds far more likely.

I wonder if 711 is going to relinquish control to MA. That could be disastrous, big brother deletions coming!!!

24k dollars for this forum?
Sounds like a huge investment for a forum they don't post on :)

Im sure MA still intends on becoming a fully fledged bank (Virtual currencies or otherwise), so this purchase with most of their clients being right here would be an investment in their future planning. It is also excellent as a customer feedback / research tool, bought perhaps to ensure it stays alive rather than access.

unless we all go back to entropiaforum.. and why don't we?

This would make sense, it would account for all those *Less then 90% return on loot* threads and all hte other bad loot threads disappearing into thin air. :tongue2:

Good luck finding out the deal on this one. :smoke:

Do you know the difference between a pessimist and an optimist?

Pessimist: - Everything sucks, we're screwed, it can't get any worse... :(
Optimist: - Don't worry, it can! :yay:

I for one am closer to a pessimist on this one. At least that "forbidden LA" affair would be unlikely to happen under MA control.

I have no information to add on this transaction at all.

However, you might notice that it is shown in MindArk's financial statements for 2014.

A lot of time has passed since then, but 711 is still taking care of all technical aspects and making decisions on policy for the forum, just as he has been for the previous 8 or 9 years. :wise:
And there's been no change in the moderators since then either. :girl:

I wonder if 711 is part of MA staf or is paid by MA for its job. That would explain his, and forum rules biasing towards MA even before we know officialy it's MA forum.

It's not anything bad of course....bussiness.

The original forum rules were put in place by MindBuster.

711 reviewed them in 2008, and made some changes to do with things like categorization (changing the numbering from the original #1 to #33, to the current 1.1 - 5.8 etc), and adding some stuff about necro'ing old threads, bumping of trading threads by friends, shop threads etc.

Since then they have not added to or substantially changed, other than minor clarifications of wording.

Oh my...didn't know that. In that case biasing forum rules toward MA is even more mysterious.
As for 711 being paid by MA - some doubts apeared then.
