Have been restrained myself from explaining the real reason why those things are OK in video games for the adults. Even more so, why they should be there.
To explain the reasons u have to explain the "layered" nature of human psyche - subconsciousness, suppression and all this stuff. Too complicated for a game forum.

BUT! Then i realized there's an ingenious way around all this.

Suppose everyone has heard about those rooms with stuffed figures of the bosses in Japanese company buildings? No?
Well, the idea behind this is actually very simple. A worker gets unfairly "disciplined" by his boss. Instead of breaking his bosses nose and losing his job he can go into that room and beat this stuffed representation of his boss instead. Everyone is happy, the boss won't visit the hospital every other week, worker keeps his job, no stress, no screaming on his poor wife and children in the evening. Pure win!

Truth is, video games (also movies and certain books) are, in a sense, the western equivalent to those rooms. A safety valve, very useful for the society out there in th RL. It's not their primary function ofc, just one among many.

Some ppl seem to think safety valves are overrated. Who needs them anyway? You can, instead, simply go and demand that the pressurized steam has to behave and restrain himself. Problem solved! :tongue2:

...

Not all people come to the video games to work off the stress, but many ppl do.
I know i'm a die-hard hunter because this is the instinct i have inherited from my prehistoric forefathers. No way i could go and kill all those animals just for pleasure in RL, all my modern upbringing tells me this is wrong, on so many levels.
Likewise, it is possible someone comes here and kills something instead of beating up his boss, someone probably even beats a virtual vixen, althou his 1st impulse was to beat up his RL wife.
It's probably not why you are here but if u think about that, you'll agree, all those things are indeed possible...

Long story short. All you Holier Than Thou Moral Police Cops!
Go ahead, close that damn safety valve, take away that beating doll from that Japanese worker.
It will give you sense of satisfaction and achievement. World will be a better place!

The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

The true minions of devil are often simple uneducated fools. Please, Lord, when the Judgement Day comes, forgive them all their hideous crimes, because they had no idea what they were doing. :yup:

I see no problem with violence, gore or nudity in video games. I saw no problem at all with the vixen pets, and I still don't see it.

Let me tell you this: If you can confuse a video game with the real world you have much more serious problems in your head than just being a little violent or chauvinistic. Repression and censorship are the seed to some of the most disturbing things a human can do.

But people can have other opinions of course, I respect that.

If a player wants to have this type of surrounding, he can go to RT, so: what is your problem?

If we would talk about a game like GTA V, we would not discuss it at all, because that's part of the story and also part of the game from the beginning. But a planet partner for EU did jump into a clean business and ofc they don't want to get bad press when they look for investors.

In general you both are right: it's just a game. Unfortunately there's something more: a lot underage player play it. And also a lot ppl who do not understand the difference between ironic, jokes (and Neverdie made a lot jokes (if you like that kind of jokes) in RT) and reality.

Many kids and also adults find it OK to call women "bitches" in RL. And you can say what you want, this is definately not OK.

Nudity is not the problem, it's the style how you boys want to treat women )yea, it's a cyborg bla bla, we are not dumb). And I totally understand when someone runs a company and chooses to act like we are in year 2015, not like in 1970.

Nudity is not a problem we all know that.
It's ppl who want to turn a casi... ahem, a country bar into a church.

And don't tell me about children. 1st, a parental guidance is needed for underage persons to enter here. 2nd, not knowing how to be bad has never stopped anyone from being bad anyway. They will find out, one way or another. We have Internet these days...

edit: just got a negrep "for excessive stupidity" (this person has no posts in this thread).
was hoping to read some arguments reveling my biggest mistakes but well, i suppose that will do.
also got several +rep, looks like there's other ppl out there, as stupid as me... :smoke:

The "safety valve" is a great argument which I usually abstain from using in these discussions, because a regular response is that if one has a need for that, one needs a serious medical help. Because, you know, modern humans have got so evolved (in a couple of decades, that's it; don't mind the "savages" beyond the "first world") that the only emotions they are able to feel are love and compassion.

We have different planet partners, who want to have different themes for their planets.

If one PP don´t want PET/item/vehicle whatever from other PP planet, because it doesn´t fit into the theme, it should be possible for PP to ban such pet/item/vehicle from his planet.

Actually I think vixen PET looks cool, and fits perfect into RT theme.
RT is full of jokes, irony and blach humor.
Its a real fun planet for those who like that kind of fun.

You want it go to RT and you will get it, but don´t blame other PP/MA if they refuse to allow it on their planet.

I am ok with it!

Edit:
Absolutely agree to OP, violence, gore, nudity even porn is not an issue for adult games, if it is absolutely clear befor entering the game, that this is part of the game. What is not the case with EU!

You are missing the point spectacularly.

People who are exposed to domestic violence - whether real or fictional, whether it involves real people or representations of people - in a context that makes it appear normal and acceptable are more likely to perpetrate domestic violence themselves. This is not an opinion, it is something that has been proved numerous times in scientific studies. Someone more knowledgeable on the subject than me might be able to reference particular papers or authors.

This is in no way analogous to the other things that you and a worrying number of others here have attempted to make a comparison with in order to make your point.

+1

and fifth, you DO understand that your "safetyvalve" is for guys only, dont you?
is taht how you see this game, a guy game with the occasional woman?

Given the overwhelming predominance od domestic violence being from men it shold be men, not women being enslaved for your simile to make sense.

I never could stand RT because of the stereotypes and I find it even more revolting now.

Sure this damn studies are so right.

Thats why all CoD players are potential amok runners killing people at their school or jobs.
Thats why all people who listen Heavy Metal start burning churches and kill virgins at black altars.

Hey I am playing Quake Arena every here and then, and I play Doom every here and then, and I am big fan of harcore heavy metal, from Sepultura to Slayer and many more.

Stay away from my hometown, I am an psychopathic killer, because I do the above mentioned. LOL

Not to mention I play EU where I shot animals and kill other people in PvP, just to prepare my next amok run on local marketplace in my hometown.

Come on, use your brain!

Yeah, that's a well argumented and intelligent reply, +rep! (duh, can't yet, already gave recently :))

I know about those studies, and i have no doubt there's a grain of truth in there.
I also happen to know your weak point with using this argument here... ;) The worst influences (with most serious and lasting consequences) come from early childhood experiences - from parents and close relatives, not from games like Entropia Universe.

So in the end it's kinda question of weight, i guess? Does my argument weigh up yours or vice versa?
I have my answer to that question, and you prolly have yours. Everyone who takes those issues seriously can take their pick...

The worst influences (with most serious and lasting consequences) come from early childhood experiences - from parents and close relatives, not from games like Entropia Universe.

I believe that is true - again someone with more detailed knowledge of the studies would be able to provide more information - but that doesn't mean that the other influences are not also significant.

I fear not matter what is said it will fall on deaf ears. No matter how many times it is repeated that it is the principle, and the normalisation that it teaches to young males, it seems to be completely ignored.

I have no qualms with Nudity, Gore and Violence in video games. However I do have a problem with the message that the vixen as a pet is giving. We all know this game is full of many young males, and there are some who will be influenced by not only this, but all the other derogatory items that surround them.

Rappers with lines like " slap that bitch" "fuck that ho" "all my bitches" etc.. then Games where women are flaunted around in underwear to be beaten and become your pet/slave. I am sure you can think of many more examples than me of where this principle is taught to young males over and over. Why then is it hard to imagine that this combination would have an influence on them? How many women are sexually assulted after a night out where a man has lost all grasp of what it is to respect a woman. Is chivalry really dead?

My main issue was I did not sign up to a game where this was the norm. If I wanted to have such nasty and sick principles thrown in my face there are plenty of games out there to do it, this game does not need to be one of them. Many of us spend our free income, and lots of our time in this game - hence why it leaves a nasty feeling that the game we all love, is being tainted in this way.

is taht how you see this game, a guy game with the occasional woman?
I try to be a realist, yes.
fifth, you DO understand that your "safetyvalve" is for guys only, dont you?
Now this is offensive attitude. Men and women are not that different. You can say that average man is little more aggressive than average woman, but that's it, a difference by a degree. Also many women are more aggressive than many men. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing - libido and aggression are two sides of the same coin...
U know, let's just drop it and pretend u didn't say this, okay? ;)

Alainax please, i really do respect your feelings and i don't want this game to be offensive to you.*)
Can you meet me half way and leave the rest of us a little bit of freedom as well? ;)

(I guess that's a good recipe for a solution. All sides have to give up some ground. Vixens won't be spawnable on all planets, most likely, and even most fundamental purists will have to leave Rockropia alone...)

*) First of all i want to apologize for Taco! If the game creators would have known he'll be here one day they would have dropped the whole thing and ran. Too late now.

A favorite argument from rapists I'm sure.

Where do you draw the line here btw?
Portraying women as "bitches" now
how about
colored ppl as "niggers"
jews as (dont know the slur for this)
asians as "geeks" (correct slur?)
That be ok with you?

Another btw:
Do you Think that stereotypes doesnt have have any impact?
Recently there was a gang !!!! in india where a cpl of guys
gangraped the girl, first the "usual" way than with a broken bottle
then one guy ripped out her uterus through her vagina
and to top it off they throw her out to die abandoned.
Lastly, one of the rapists explained on TV that it was her own fault.

This happens in a vacum with no impact at all from stereotyps?
Think again

A lot don't/can't see this for this exact reason and is one of the major problems we are seeing around the world building up day by day as our once young are now growing older not knowing any better and will debate to their death over something that can't be seen due to them living their life as it is now.

At the end sorry to say there is really NOTHING that can be done about it..it's already been done long ago..we are just now starting to see the wrong effects we put on our once young taking effect and will only build to a point that well......

Some of you people just don't fucking get it. The fact that you even presume to say what is best for women is sexist in itself.

This was from a friend in game, one who I know is 100% a woman. She is not anyone you would expect from watching stream or anything, so don't even bother trying to guess. Read the words and think about it.

Those are the words of a strong woman. One who has a right to make her own fucking choices, and one who deserves to never have to hear what is best for her.

Some of you really don't get it. It saddens me to see all the anti-vixen police using this as a soapbox.

This is my last post on the issue. I am just too disgusted with too many of you.

Well, I didn't, and nobody gave even a second to give me a proper response to my arguments. Instead, I get shit arguments thrown at me "GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHAAAAA NUDE FEMALE AVA", "Ghghghghghhghghghghghghgh robot" and whatnot.

Frankly.

While I do care about equality across the full spectrum IRL, that is not my main concern in this game. My main concern is that I want EU to stay healthy. My main concern is that I've got somewhere aroune $10,000 dollars in here, because I believe in the concept, and want to see it grow.

My concern is, that, all this crap creates a shit image for the game. We are moving further and further away from what EU is. And I understand that both MA as well as the players will need to adapt.

However, as you can see by the responses in here, not all are very fond of the idea. The PC bullshit you throw at me for questioning stupid shit like the bong and the vixens is quite misguided. I know what the general consensus is on these topics, and I want the game to move in a direction where as many as possible can step inside without going "uuuuuuuuuhhhh". Hence, I'd like to promote what I believe would be accepted by the broadest possible audience. With other words: Generally accepted = Politically correct.

Don't we want to create a game where the target audience is as broad as possible? Sure, let's have planets like RT that are hollywood style, but let's try to keep it a tad under control. Those like you who enjoy the concept can go there, those like me who don't enjoy most of it (Except I must admit i like motorheads and kong) can stay out of there. Both will be happy.

The tameable vixen is a stupid idea from start (Out of a PR POV). Sure, let ND have it, but because of its nature and the general opinion it might be a good idea to have it isolated. In fact, having it isolated will further promote the badass-attitude that he wants RT to associate with.

Letting ND run loco on RT might be a good business idea. Letting him do so across the whole universe is definately a bad one.

And your convo doesn't say much; Individuals differ and handle trauma in different ways. I also talked to someone who had been sexually abused today. She was excited that the vixen is being banned on all the other planets.

Edit: Another concern I should have is my spelling it seems.

So you don't like the idea of vixens as a pet, thus it creates a shitty image for the whole game.

"Hence, I'd like to promote what I believe would be accepted by the broadest possible audience. With other words: Generally accepted = Politically correct."
You, and "your kind" should stop eating what media offers and start thinking for yourselves for a moment, it's not that hard, it requires a brain.
Second, you can't make a broad audience for the game because most of the "broad audience" is let's say.... incapable of grasping how an RCEMMO should be played, end up in losing tons, which only leads to even more negative reviews. It has and is happening. Also it would mean we should ban all those almost nude outfits.

mad world around us full of stereotypes and btw they do that to young boys in India too, but i think this "pet" conversation went to far, outside from game into real life and real life is another game.

<snip>

I sympathise with your friend but the quoted conversation suggests she's misunderstanding the issue as much as anyone. Our concerns (I speak for myself but I think most in the "anti-vixen" camp would agree) are not about saying what's best for women, or stopping people from being offended, or even about protecting abuse victims. They are about trying to make society better instead of worse.

I'd be happy to discuss it further with your friend if she'd like to contact me in private.

Any reasons of why my arguments won't work? Or you just shit on everything you don't like?

Sure, lets break it down for you.
