Just watching this video I feel the old feeling I had when playing Entropia, and boy do I miss it. Nostalgia is strong today I guess :p It's a shame we don't have videos of Entropia like this anymore, it was great to watch. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed this video as much as I did!

love it! there's also an old video that bruud made that brings me back to the old rig days, the game has changed so much since then! Hopefully I can work out how to embed it here.

Yay for nostalgia :)

If someone could post a YouTube link of the video some player made about the 'robot wars', which included music from Evanescence (Imaginary) and Nickelback (Hero) among others, I would be very grateful. It started up with a sped-up run across the hilly part outside of Port Atlantis and ended with a bunch of guys in Shadow and Angel shooting at bots and stuff.

It's one of those videos that defines that particular period and will really hit home with people from that era. Everyone should experience it regardless!

oh my! I would still start playing if I saw this  Awesome! That was times when everything was still new and fun and not just so damn dead serious :yup:

Every game is bound to lose its "wonder" after a while.. But the main problem I see in new players is that they never get that wonder to begin with.

Advertisement has gone stale, and shifted away from the virtual reality concept that hooked many in 2006-2008, and more towards "huge mmo" and "real cash economy". And in congruence with that fact we also see a overwhelming number of grinding events and missions just to keep the margins in the green zone by promoting deposits through necessity rather than desire.

Players should deposit because they want to engage in activity and immersive gameplay, not in order to buy ammo to finish their 10k Argo challenge.

The platform has shifted, and not for the better I'm afraid. Like was mentioned above, the game has lost mystery and instead adopted dead, stagnant seriousness. It's depressing that new players don't get to experience the same feelings of wonder that most users who joined in the old PE says did.

I'm not suggesting we need retroactive changes, just changes to bring the wonder back.

I'm glad you found it! I've been thinking of that video for the last few days and wishing the ad screens still played it, in spite of how annoying it could be sometimes

I dreamt that one day Hadesheim would be a packed and bustling trade hub despite its enormous size. I thought to myself, "hell yeah, this game will definitely have that many players one day".

Consider my dreams crushed

It will never be the same again. The music,The graphics , The newness of it all was so good. Back when you looted real gold ped,and had to run each TP.

.

hehe that takes me back

Yes it had to change but we still miss it

I used to remember that playing in-game. I loved it so much, and although the prize received was seriously overpowered and causing issues in events (Terminator) it was a well deserved prize.

I think something like that should be re-made with CryEngine graphics and playing on the screens in 2015/16

Obviously there are royalty / copyright issues, but everything can be resolved with negotiation & a fair deal. :)

I'm going to be the voice that nobody wants in this thread :ahh:

EU still has some sparkle and glitter to it, if you ask me. It has just been lost on us. We've spent so much effort trying to ride the waves we've forgotten to look at the ocean.

The wonder of EU comes from us. We were the ones making those videos and living in awe of our virtual world.
We were the ones soaking in the wonder of it all and then dripping it out onto everyone else through Youtube and other mediums.

It could be like that again - we just have to shake off the cobwebs, rub our eyes a little, and enjoy the Calypso that is ours today, in 2015.

I came in just after VU 10. I missed the stock exchange, the meat collectors that never happened, the pre-VU10 storyline and a lot of the pre-VU10 growth... but I've seen EU build itself back up, and if we all went out into Eudoria, explored and relaxed for a bit, I think we would see that the wonder is still there. There are still some really beautiful parts of Eudoria and Amethera... maybe should all go out to one of em, spawn some chairs, hang out and enjoy the sunshine and passing shadows. Watch a few ships go by.

The grinding missions are there, sure. But hell. So is a whole continent of crap we rarely go see because we're too busy worrying about our armor decay.

EU still holds a lot of magic for me. I go out and stand on the balcony at port atlantis and look at Jennifer's island from time to time, remembering when that used to be the place to be.

It isn't anymore... but damn, that's still one hell of a view.

I miss receiving PEDs as loot, it made it so much easier to calculate my losses.

I gotta say as a new player (been playing about three weeks). It took about a week for me before I realized I probably do not want to continue this journey. I'm still debating on that.

What you guys are saying is absolutely true. First of all, the players in this community that I have experienced are at minimum not helpful, and truthfully it feels like purposefully unhelpful. This feels like a big secret society. I go to the oil rig because that was the advice I got. I get sniped 3 times in a row.

I fly or walk around, and see shops that are all but abandoned, and likely not selling anything. I see people offering healing services for free. I see banks that no one goes into, with areas within to sell items and nothing is on the shelves.

I see people sweating and complaining about it, trying to outsell each other by .01pec and still no one is buying. I see forum post after forum post complaining about bad loot, and I can certainly say I have not had any good loot. My returns are nowhere near 90% (and I have spent hours and hours reading tutorials about how to do this).

I try to search out ways to make money to at least sustain playing this game. I quickly find out, you have to have super high levels to even have a shot at that, and those people are writing on facebook about quitting the game because they cannot survive. (Hairstylist and designer, wont say names)

I do a little crafting and alot of research about crafting. Surprise, get super high levels and then it's a slot machine.

Above all of this though, I explore planet calypso and it feels ULTRA, ultra, disjointed. None of the missions make sense, some of them even incomplete. The only thing I can figure out to do is the iron challenges. Kill a bunch of stuff for a really sad reward (aka spend more money).

There are different cities and areas, but what's the point? They all have the same exact thing. Any building I go into, at any area of the map, has the same TT, RT, Auctioneer, etc.

I'm just rambling at this point but, this is what it feels like for a 3 week player.
-Mindark support ticket has not been answered in three weeks
-There is no story line
-There is no conceivable way to earn enough PED to support game play, much less make a "profit"
-There are no players willing to give good advice, but plenty to try and scam you/take advantage of you, or kill you at the oil field
-the game looks abandoned, it all looks and feels "half baked"

I mean, this is what I've learned - I work on my skills, get those up. Deposit more money and buy better gear, which is exponentially more expensive to run. There is no end game, or steady game that I can see. If you get better gear, it costs more to upkeep, it's almost as if it is counter-intuitive to buy butter equipment. But if you do, you hunt bigger mobs or mine at deeper depths, and have more of a "chance" at hitting that HOF (that people everywhere are saying doesnt happen anymore).

I know this is a rant, but... there are some serious problems with this "game" and it's no wonder there are no waves of new players coming here. It's not new player friendly, it's not mid-level player friendly, and it appears to be getting not even uber-player friendly. There have been several times I've questioned why anyone is here...

<Good feedback from newish player.>

Would you believe I could have written something like that in 2006? There were things that annoyed me, things that needed changing and things I missed from my previous MMORPG.

You already guessed I'm still here 9.x years later. Some would say it was easier back then, I'd agree with that, but the graphics were a lot uglier. Seriously, although oldtimers miss yellow lego brick Port Atlantis, it's primitive compared to todays graphics. I would agree with anyone saying that sweating was easier and more profitable to sell at 5 Ped / K in 2008. It was 2-22 per pull in 2008, but no sweat tool, no autouse tool and sweating was a 2 step process, often resulting in failure.

I've raised a MA support ticket last week and it took about 4 days to reply. I've read of other issues with this, I'd say raise another, maybe they've had technical problems. Make sure you are polite or TBH, you'll never get a reply.

If you didn't care about this game you would have just uninstalled, but you do like it, you just want it to be better. Thats a good thing, who knows who may have read your post?

I've not been a mentor for a few years now, but if you can get hold of a decent mentor who is passionate and online when you are, I hope he can help point you the right way.

Dont give up just yet, you may have just found your last MMO. :xmas:

i remember this old time it was the best time in game play and to discover the planet so much to find, i miss this time it was the best. :)

Didn't want to quote the whole thing, but yes; everything you say is true. I've often wondered why people are willing to spend absurd amounts of money on this game. Like you said, there's no real reward except to spend more money. The bottom line is this is an expensive online casino with a worse payout rate than any other online casino. The appeal is gambling, you already alluded to crafting being nothing more than slot machines, which is true, but so is everything else in the game. Every action you do has an expense associated with it and a "random" payout. When you throw in the social component and some diversity (hunting different mobs, mining different ores, coloring/tailoring/taming/etc), it's a little more interesting than a traditional casino, and I guess that's the appeal. As long as you view it that way, and not like a normal MMO, you'll be less frustrated with it.

The other big appeal that keeps the higher-end players here is "keeping up with the Joneses". Player X sees Player Y's uber gear and wants the next best thing. It's the same in the real world, does a Rolex really keep time any better than any other watch? No, but for some people the status is important. Personally I would never spend $80k on a watch, even if I was a billionaire; but there are a lot of "Rolex players" in this game.

As to the game's overall decline and less loot: I'm not sure why nobody ever mentions this, but MindArk has been losing money for years now. Their financial records are public. 2014 was a 9.5mil SEK loss for them. They are still carrying forward debt from the HUGE amount of money they spent porting to CryEngine (if I recall it cost them something close to 70mil). IMO that was when things really started to turn south for this game. They had to make some changes to try and recoup that cost, but I don't think they predicted correctly how long it would take. I think they are trying to balance keeping the board members happy and keeping the players happy (both of which have opposite desires).

The good news is, I do think you can still enjoy the game casually even if you don't have a huge bankroll, and I'm proof. I've been playing since 2003, and my skills are remarkably low for someone who's been playing that long. The game is extremely grindy if you want to skill up, but you don't really need to. I deposit about once a year and I play with a more economical approach. I still try all the various activities. It just depends what your goals are.

I joined in 2011 i think but i still remember my feeling, it was awesome game. Everything was new and the stories of looting that special ul item and wondering what mob will drop it was so exciting. I remember looting a fiew pixie parts and it was so fun! Was hoping for something better some day and then...Ma started "improving" things.

If i was making decisions:

mining would stay the same, today i look at chat and just by looking at someone globaling i can guess what amp he is using.

Strongboxes would never exist, rings could be looted from all types of mobs and keep that excitement and unknown feeling. Samo goes for everything selling in webshop. I know ma wants money but they would still get it from hunting/mining/crafting if everyone knew there is a chance to loot it.

For me this game excitement is 90% from loot and with all schrapnel/ammo loot... It doesnt involve any aiming, racing, or anything that non rce games have and once it all became predictable it became plain borring. Go back to original idea this sucks MA.

Strongboxes would never exist

Strongboxes exist for one reason. They were asked for on this forum.

Be careful what you ask for in Wishlist. Depositor only items were asked for more than once. Now we have them. Dont blame MA for implementing what was requested.

TBH, I dont see the issue with them, in fact they add excitement to depositing, you get the chance of hugely increasing the amount you deposited if you get lucky. If unlucky, you have a good amount of ammo to burn that you intended to use anyway.

I've known some low depositors tempted to throw a few $ in to open the boxes and received some (L) or even non (L) rings. Thats lady luck for you.

To piggy back on strongboxes, its a tax free deposit with a chance to score some really niceitems. I prefer them over explosive bps

Its ok we all see things differently. I just think all these new items should be looted in playing the game from 3 professions (hunter, miner, crafter) not just click, buy, i have it. I think a lot of excitement is lost this way but maybe its just me.

Edit:

Imagine if equus quads all came from main three professions. Crafters discovering for example left wing l bp l that used 1k ped of muscle oil. Another bp for the logo. Another for seat that used leather. Another bp for the frame that used iron ingots, paint cans to finish it to red color. All of those could still add up to 50k ped per piece but that would be in style of the game. That kind of implementing all new items would boost economy and make the game fun instead of this click to buy method. Imagine all new items being acquired thru 3 main professions.

And these new armors all droping from mobs, or even soto in mining wow for me thats a game. Then again it could only be me, maybe all others enjoy click, buy, loot schrapnels/ammo.

I think MA would still get a lot of deposits this way really

Wow, so that´s how it looked like, I´m speechless. Wow. :eyecrazy:

Now I get what the vets are saying.

" HUGE amount of money they spent porting to CryEngine (if I recall it cost them something close to 70mil) "

So MA spent this Money and we lost the game we loved.:wtg:

"thousands of players" that hasn't changed much... wish they could say 10s of thousands

Have you ever seen an advertisement for Entropia, anywhere? Granted, I don't visit many gaming sites, but I certainly haven't. MindArk's marketing department is non-existent. You can't grow a game through word of mouth, especially when most of those mouths are constantly bitching about how bad the game sucks.

Entropia is just way too big now... too much space and too many planets.

Twins or PA used to allow you to meet pretty much everyone in game... now, you don't see anyone anymore.. it's become a very lonely place.

The good old days (the best imo) are gone and along with it, MA have lost the old social gatherings too.

For those that remember sweating as it used to be, concentration, focus, healers, your avatar's animation etc.. they were just amazing.. no point and squirt tools, no auto tool button etc.. it's not a scratch now on how it used to be..

Such a shame.. (just my opinion) :(

This video is the best (shows the truth to all current whiners!)

Very true. There used to be fashion/beauty competitions all the time, those were always a lot of fun. Now those stages are just collecting dust.
