Virtual Reality Presidential Race Begins - PR Newswire (press release)

Just when you think MA has done something which has resulted in a thread which COULD NOT POSSIBLY GET ANY WORSE.... Angel O2 Mercer drops by....

Voting rights will be an interesting idea that I liked about the CLD project. The only problem I see here is that MA maybe moving to a pay-to-vote program.

Also about the 1,000USD. I think this may have been an error in communications between MA and their advertising company not really understanding the value of PED. My guess is MA passed along that we will need to pay 1000ped. I would be more than happy to pay that and hope MA will give us an update here -- and fix the FAQ.

Sorry,
OpaloMan
President of Crap
Why not send pr guy a pm here for clarification as he is on forum...https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/member.php?33584-TractionPR

This is either the worst idea ever, or meaningless PR fluff, depending on the answer to the most important and currently unanswered FAQ.

or possibly an idea bordering (dare I say it and get flamed?) bordering on genius :)

Q. What power and influence will the President have?

Well that really depends on so many unknown quantities at this time that it's impossible for us to gauge properly. Having said that personally I like the idea of how they are trying to set a standard for the gaming community and involving other developers and organisations in the process.

Setting standards which everyone can work towards and have an understanding about in the end benefits not only us players the most but developers themselves. Think about it, for example compare the setting of a standard time zone before it it was impossible to organise and get things done but once a standard timezone was adopted we could all work towards the same time keeping. Simple and effective.

Virtual reality seems to me could benefit from the same and avoid excessive violation of rights. I suspect we'll soon be hearing more about this and exploitation and believe you me you don't want to be at the end of that exploitation, it's not nice must be the understatement of the year.

Apart from violation of rights there is the usual benefits of standardization that the industry as a whole would benefit from. Another example compare the betamax vhs videotape standards. Wouldn't it have been better if both companies worked together to adopt a standard then both would have benefited from it. In the same token this would benefit other developers.

Now going back to power that really depends on the community of players and developers to come together and work out a standard i.e. power you could say is what we as a community decide to give this venture. If everyone supports it, then yes it could have a lot of power.

To be honest, i kind of got bored reading that press release. Has anyone outlined the main points?

So far I have.

You pay $1000 for the possibility of an unpaid position. In a virtual position we (MA) have made up in the hope to organize the virtual world somehow?

Fair comment, i do like the idea of a political system of some form.

Be interesting to see where this goes.

Two remarks:
  1. Power is not given, it's taken.
  2. If we stick to the MA's vision, ND seems to be the best fit. If he has time for this or if he'd accept is whole another question ofc.

Ty Dan,

But that really didn't tell me anything apart from, we are going to set up an online government.

That means absolutely nothing. I could set up an online government.

If it has nothing to govern, then what is the point? Unless I have missed something obvious.

In all this years this topic was discussed many times but i ended to think the same no mater how good were arguments.
Personal communication with MA that customer can perform is to send his issue thought filter called Support team.
Where many issues, suggestions or wishes will not reach developers or a person with decisional power.
Additional govern or president will be just another filter added to Support team blocking even more possible communication between customer and MindArk.
We have seen this effect already by introducing planet partners where nobody is responsible for anything.
(like - is not our problem is MA who decide and MA say is not our problem we do only platform ask PP and in between is not this developing team, is another and ofc you get blocked by support "case closed" few times until you give up) Now add to this an "elected" President. Do you think that with President we will be able to know more than they are willing to tell us?

And so it begins.

Does someone know 'Jim Engel' ? <removed crowdfunding link>

Only found this before results started showing an ugly miss virtual universe so i gave up.
Time to shoot beautiful magurg.

You know there is an odd link here that MA maybe creating with this new government:

Mindark PE AB, Entropia Universe, Planet Calypso, POPtropia, Next island, Planet Arkadia, Planet Cyrene, Planet Toulan, Virtual Tycoon App, Compet Game App, VegastoMacau.com Virtual and Online Casinos. Empaticus AB

And just the last month David came on to our forum here to tell us that there would be NO link between the two?

I'm not reading all 20 pages of this thread, but here's my take on this: MA has a long history of failures:

  • Banking license idea failed
  • Next Island and Planet Michael failure
  • Chinese VR shopping planet
  • Planet Postmoderna -- Where is it?
  • New planets online with barely any players on them
  • Switchover to CryEngine resulted in player base decreases and rollout was ill-thought-out and poorly executed
  • Active player base amount is dismal as of 2015; MA silent on actual numbers to bolster interim reports
  • MA's numerous PR employees who have came and gone over the years
  • Numerous bugs in the game that are not getting fixed
  • Jan Welter Timkrans getting ousted by his own board
  • Lack of a cross-platform client to secure EU's future; Windows desktops are slowly falling out of favor
  • Playerbase is probably smaller than it was pre-CryEngine, yet players are spread thin between multiple planets
  • Marketing failure; failure to bring Entropia Universe out of the niche game category
  • MA's "castle" office they purchased/renovated only to have game convention change city

I remember the first concept video I saw of Entropia, and It sparked a lot of interest. However, once playing the game, you soon realize that mostly all you are there for is to add padding to MA's finances. I was always okay with the fact that EU was a money loser, but I also set spending limits. There is no "greater good", "big picture" or "unity", "shaping the world", or being an important part of a futuristic interconnected virtual world. That's what MA wants you to believe and get sucked into, but it's obvious that people with addiction problems who are spending finances haphazardly on a bottomless pit aren't always going to take a step back and look at the big picture. The content in the first concept videos were the carrot, and it appears that many players actually believe that next year will be the year for EU, yet it never comes. That's where the PR spin comes in, and reassures people with "investments" in the game that their money is being well spent. Call it stupidity, call it blindness, call it whatever.

It's amusing how so many people keep getting fooled by MA's tactics, which is just smoke and mirrors. They pull the same thing year after year, make bold claims and project a grandiose picture of what's coming in the future. In reality, only part of what they say happens and it almost always comes much later than stated. The most important part of their stated goal never happens, which is marketing. Anyhow, this whole presidential thing looks like a load of crap to me. I never saw a big push for anyone in game or on the forums asking for it, so there is a foisting effort happening here. People in game usually want to stay out of politics; the reason they're immersing themselves in the game in the first place is to find a little peace and quiet and get away from this crazy world we live in. To me, the idea of bringing politics into the game is a stupid idea. $1000 to register to vote? Yeah, that sounds real fair.

Mindark can always change the terms and conditions of the president's role on a whim, as there's no actual legally binding contract. The only "president" of Entropia is MindArk's board, and that is never changing. My suggestion is to vote to cancel this stupid idea. It's one more stupid idea from MindArk that certainly isn't going to bring more players into the game.

And....

I want to know all about David Simmonds secret talks with certain Avatars on how the loot of items will be distributed outside the "loot balance" and some big HOFs and ATHs som avatars got as payment for some kind of work they done for MA and they was not paid with a salary exept tho money came as a "loot" in the game so it means that the "balanced loot" was manipulated.

First, all the old lies has to fall before one can say that you have a good comunikation.

For if you want us to make deposits in this game should be fair to the players how the money are distributed in the game.

May be we have to think outside of the gaming box we are in to understand what is in plan here. But I still fail to do so :scratch2:
It is proably easier to just wait to 2016 and see.

Hm, What kind of work did those ppl? Do you have (more)facts?

Any effort like this without the support of Blizzard in the campaign, or at least some big players like Electronic Arts or Sony and so on is only a joke. Even more so with the fee to register.
At the very least Linden Labs should take part in the campaign... ah well.

Any news yet when Neverdie will be elected?

Any news yet when Neverdie will be elected?

None any of the strong potential contenders would consider it $1000 well spent.

I'd be prepared to stand in front of a podium for an hour and answer questions, and hopefully supply the right replies.

I'm no DT though, I'm more on the Left, like 95% of non $1000,000,000's

I'd type more, but it all gets deleted these days. Annoying, but there we go.

EDIT: PS I still have all my own hair and it doesn't need to be moved from one side of my head to the other and then dyed and glued down. :D

there is any official comunication about this from ma?
no? then what the hell we are talking about?

Odd enough I sent an email to David Simmonds and chatting with David Dobson (CEO of Arkadia) and both saying this is legit.

At the end I think it's just ND promo stunt and MA is backing him but I don't think MA really looked into what was stated on the promo page.

Funny thing is I have contacted the other companies that are listed and they are looking into this as maybe being some sort of fraud. ND put that PwC will be doing the polls and well PwC are saying that they do not deal in this type of service. PwC have requested I send them more information on the site that they were said to be doing this service. Waiting to see what more info I get back from them on that issue.

Oh and that other company said that they have no idea about this and they are a subsidiary of MA? Fun times :)

They are not a subsidiary of MA, they are paying MA to use their platform just like MA is paying Cryengine...

What is PwC?
