I started playing Entropia in July of 2006. I didn't deposit for the first few months. Just sweated a lot and explored. When I did start depositing it was sporadic and never huge amounts and I still sweated a lot. I think my total deposits were around $1400 over the course of the next 4-5 years.

In late 2011 I liquidated all my items (pretty hastily and probably lost a good bit of value, but oh well). I ended up with 9k peds left that I resolved to withdraw, but never got around to it. I wish I would have bought CLDs with that 9k ped because they had just come out when I stopped. Instead I just let the ped sit on my card, but oh well.

In the next four years I became gainfully employed, got married, and became a father.

So more recently things have calmed down a little for me. Work has become routine, I have a little time in the evenings after the baby is sleeping, etc. And then I read Ready Player One.* Great book. I think the author must have played Entropia at some point. It totally rekindled my interest in EU. So I came back.

And a lot has changed. The game has changed. I have changed. I am not feeling it with my avatar anymore. Are my skills really worth keeping? I don't like my avatar name and support has told me before you can't change it. They suggested I make a new account, transfer items and ped to it and delete my old one. I am starting to think that might be a good idea. The avatar creation process has been improved again I think. The starter packs offer some kind of premium character generation thing.

What do you all think? Am I really messing myself up to start over? Anyone else done it and regret it? I know snablesnot male young is a second avatar, and I can't remember the details, but I don't think there was a lot of skill loss involved.

*(I'll refrain from putting a link since I am a new forum user account (I changed internet providers and don't have the email account for my old PCF account anymore)).

Welcome back in EU.

All depends how much skills you have *assuming not much cause of mainly sweating).
But keep in mind that you will lose Stamina, as new avatars start with 1, and you probably have started with 8 (or was it other number back then?).

Still if you really don't feel happy about it and don't have loads of skills then probably you should change it...

Hey, welcome back. I recently did same thing, i stopped playing at around 2012 and now i am back. I dont want to go into too many details about me but from what i have been through lately i may have some good suggestions maybe :)
Dont make new avatar, stick with ur old. Talk to support first and explain them what u did here in forum, name changes are possible if they have reasoning behind it - we all remember pornstars and boners and other rather rude avatar names that had changed to reasonable names now. Support may help if you give good reason.
Second thing is losing atributes, if i had made a new ava and asked to deete the old one, i wouldnt have the atributes i have now, and even so they are not very high, still higher than most around, i am pretty proud of them anyways.
If atributes and name or skills and etc is what u really dont care about then go ahead and make a new account, relive experience of being a total noob, which could be really nice actually. And skilling these days are really easy, nothing like it used to be in 2006. U can easily with your 9k capital skill up to lvl70 in less than a year for example.
Starter pcks are great, but anyone can get them so not a problem.
Avatar recreation process could be initiated again unless you have cancellled that option when u re-downloaded ur client. At least it was there for me when i started again, i kept postponing it until i did remake the looks of my ava.

Hmm, if anything else, ask.

Its always nice to see returning players :)

Good luck out there and have fun

Soko

P.S.
U can once again be desciple, no matter what ur skills are, so find urself a mentor :)

If you can talk them into changing the name, keep the old account. Otherwise, it really isn't that tough to start over these days, especially if you have 9k PEDs.

If support are willing to change your whole name, keep your old avatar saves a whole lot of hastle.

If you want to get back into hunting mobs, I've a hunting thread on noobs corner or check signature.

Thanks for the replies. :)

I have 132539 total skill points. 138 hp, 67 agi, 58 str, 49 int, 44 psy, 11 sta. Highest profession is L40 BLP sniper. L18 evader and L16 dodger. L16 surveyor and prospector.

I guess I feel directionless with my avatar as well as not liking the looks or name. I can always try to refine my direction without starting over. If support will let me change my name I may just do that. My brother just started playing with me recently (no idea if he will stick around or not), and watching him noob it up looks fun. I am about 1k into my 10k in the puny iron mission now myself. But then I go out and shoot maffoids and lose a couple hundred ped.

I wonder if the limitations of a new skill-less avatar will keep me on the rails so-to-speak... maybe closing off some avenues would be in my own best interest, instead of trying to change my old habits through willpower alone.

When I started EU I didn't know much and formed a lot of my own weird ideas about how it worked. It was a lot more mysterious back then. And when other people tried to give me advice it always seemed like it was overly simplified. Looking back now I can see that I was just making things more complicated than they were (or needed to be).

I am still not sure, but I will make a support case soon and find out: a) if I can do avatar looks over if I get a starter pack with the premium char gen thing (haven't seen it present an option to re-do them since reinstalling)
and b) is there anyway I can change my name (when I asked them in 2011 they said no... twice).

Thanks for the input though guys, and the welcome backs. Anyone else who reads this please share your thoughts as well. :)

If you ask me, I'ld reckon skills matter much more than how you look and your avatar's name.

Just think about how much you would need to cycle or need to spend (in time and peds) to get your "new" avatar back to your current skill level?

So long as you've got the skills, there are more weapons and stuff available for you to choose and use at maxed/optimal stats.

So yea, I'ld choose skills over "how you look and your avatar's name"...any time of the day.

KEEP YOUR OLD ACCOUNT!:yup:
Have petience and explain support (maybe more than once).
Appearance is something you can fix in game anyway.
You have very good attributes and skillpoints, so DON'T trash 'em.

Welcome back

PS. It is human nature, that makes us to complicate things that realy are simple sometimes btw

Im pretty sure its possible to change the name(I had mine changed, but I used my real name in ava creation, heh). Explain to them that you stopped playing for 4 years - your name is not know, so it will not hurt if they change it. Looks can by changed by in-game beauticians, but it will cost you (not too much).

You have decent skills, attributes. I would not dump that :) You can always hunt small mobs, just like your brother.

So my advice: Keep the old ava for sure :)

I'm pretty sure Support will not agree to change name, just in case you would want to hide from your past bad deeds.

But if you have nothing to hide from, definitely keep old avatar as it's a bit of skills compared to fresh one.
