Lots of examples on games going on steam, getting a big influx of players. Steam is the major player for PC players these days, and even more so for developers.

A lot of free to play MMO's with microtransactions on Steam. i dont see a reason why not take advantage of steam. Sure it must cost something. But compared to heavy adverticing it can only be less..

Anyone for or against this idea?

So.....

Yea i do have a concern... The review system on steam would be a mess. so many people would fail earning money and dump the reviews... i guess i answered my own question ^^

I never looked really how it works but I think Steam charges for each (?) player that plays game (launches) using their software.

Since EU is free to play I think it would be stupid if MA would have to share their revenue based on every sweater that launched EU using steam...

What we don't need is 10 thousand 11-16 year olds playing for two weeks and then writing bad reviews because they can't figure eu out

ofc and in no time EU economy will be destroyed!

MA can't risk for even 1% of Steam clients? I don't think even that is the percentage for people using Steam who they are willing or able to figure out, invlolve and mostly important, ready to invest to a world like Entropia.

/OP the other reason it is what you answered yourself.

I was tottaly negative to this in the past for those reasons,

But,
maybe a demo application, who might give the opportunity to someone to get an idea and understand how it works (like Thule for example); total independent, with only ability for the user to keep he's/her character afterward and with absolutely no connection with the main platform of Entropia Universe in other data , could help instead. Maybe through this app MA could ask a small fee to cover Steam expences and a small amount of PED available for player account if decide to start the real thing. That's my opinion to this.

That would be a pretty good idea billy

Only problem with a demo app is that I wouldn't trust MA to not be tempted to drop hofs and ath's constantly in an attempt to draw people by giving the wrong impression.

Many steam game are pay to play , and its quite expensive...dont dream , most of game are not free , and many of those game are played by grown up people....

i do think MA should register EU in steam , or at least some planet partner...
specially now , that EU work quite same as all those free game , with boxes and all those pack...

You assume that steam is "10 thousand 11-16 year olds."

Quite stupid honestly as I have made a lot of money through steam and know the userbase well. It is by no means the people you said, plus I'd expect more than 10 thousand players.

I guess if you use steam you are 11-16? Moron.

Do you guys have any idea how much money steam players have? Especially those from CSGO. I and thousands of others have made money through CSGO. If anything, younger players would be likely to deposit. Likewise, there will be a lot of older players as well.

Sorry that you want EU to remain a game for 60 year old Euro's, I guess? (See what I did there? Making stupid stereotypes like your dumb ass was.)

Steam is completely the wrong platform for eu
It will never work. Why the steam fanboys keep bringing this up is pointless.
And zen, take you neg rep and stick it up your ass. I WILL see you in pvp.

I am not steam fanboy at all , but i player fallout 3 , fallout NV , fallout 4 , xcom , xcom2....latelly , all are on steam.
so i have steam account , and cheked some other game...

and you know what , there is good game , there is shit game , there is monthly fee game , free game , game you pay 1 time ,there is scifi game , rpg , game for kid , game for adult , and well , tons of game , with tons of people trying , testing...

why not have EU there..

and well if steam is wrong platform (there is arc too , and probably other i dont know) , so , what platform you think about, or what way you think MA should bring player....

for me that president stuff is the ubershit of all advert in the world...

EU follows totally different logic than any other big mainstream game out there. It's also very complex, and can become extremely costly very easy if don't know what u doing.

This is the reason why ANY new player trying out EU is a potential bad PR.
Influx of new players = lot of pissed off confused ppl. Young and old, rich and poor, from Steam and not from Steam.

There's no need to beat up each other over this... :)

I was thinking today about ways that MA could get new players, and I wondered if they were on Steam already. Googling returned this thread.

It seems to me that with the new interaction controls, now is an even better time to list EU on Steam.

They tried putting Compet on Steam.

It didnt work.

They need to stop listening to suggestions that wont work.

I think that Monria was on greenlight section of Steam.

Anyway imagine that Entropia Universe was on Steam even if I never saw any real cash casino games there.

What votation you guys think it would have? I can already imagine the commentaries.

There is no point being on Steam if your game doesn't need DRM. There is no point pulling something which is essentially a rootkit on your computer if you don't want to play DRM-burdened games. Moving to Steam (and not offering any other way) will exclude those who are aware of this and like hell would allow such a thing into their home. They might be a minority.

Steam gives you a lot of exposure. But I think their revenue cut (30%) is too big for EU.

Said revenue cut decreases a bit for bigger games, but we don't match the criteria by a long shot so...

Exactly

Mindarks buissnes model dosn't allow them to give away 30 cent for every dollar they aquire from depositing, when they have to pay back 1 usd per 10 ped if the user demand to withdraw money.

Legally all money you deposit is theirs after 6 months you deposited it, practicaly with steam in the boat mindark would risk going bancrupt very fast. The turnover of EU (and im not talking about cycled and traded fiat peds between players ingame but money in money out) is too low for steam to bother making a special deal.

I played some mmos that launced over steam at one time and after the initial surge in players they almost always dropped back to the old level or even below it.

The only acceptable way to work with steam were the same kind of contract mindark did with the moonria owners.
They track the turnover of that person and payouts are based on his activity rather than his deposits. But i doubt steam would bother for pennys.

steam stated that entropia universe is not conducive to their business model. ie not compatible. funny they kept compets on there for so long.

The last thing Mindark needs right now is more exposure to actual gamers.

This new control system is junk. Mindbogglingly stupid. Non-standard, And ultimately will lose more customers than it gains.

It would be a wonderful way to instantly turn away a large portion of the normal "gamer" player base , since this game is even more removed from the typical experience people are used to now.

Maybe someone should tell them their ideas rarely work, and to stop listening to rich people who never played a game before this one.

Steam would be a horrible idea for this game, at least until MA figures out how other games are actually played, and enjoyed.

Instead of steam perhaps this would be better on consoles like playstation. They need to do something to have this game on another platform other than PC's - ideally on smartphones. PC's are no longer required and main platform these days is smartphones

They already failed in the smartphone section with compet, do you really want them to repeat that ?

I'm not thinking about a silly app like compet but actual entropia universe on smartphone

Couple hundred at best.

When Ryzom (which has been around for about as long as EU and is a fairly complex game) went on Steam in May 2016, for a few weeks there were hordes of kids running around trying to find ways to mess with people without going to PVP. In about two months, it was all but over.

Nothing else happened.
