[h=2]Two Factor Authentication Update[/h] In our recent State of the Universe Address, we announced plans to release a new two-factor authentication system later this year:

MindArk is developing a new two-factor authentication system that will gradually replace the Gold Card Security System currently in use. This new system will be released as an app for popular mobile platforms for all Entropia Universe participants.

This announcement sparked lots of speculation and discussion on community forums, so we wanted to clarify several points to address some of the concerns raised by participants.

  1. Account security is MindArk's highest priority; any new security option that is made available to participants will make Entropia Universe accounts more secure, not less.
  2. MindArk will continue to support the existing Gold Card Security System for participants already using the system, including after the release of the planned mobile two-factor authentication system described in the State of the Universe Address.
  3. Eventually the Gold Card Security System may no longer be offered for purchase in the future, though again, participants already using that system may continue to do so.
  4. The authentication system included in the planned Entropia Universe mobile application will natively integrate Google Authenicator, a well proven, highly secure industry-standard two-factor authentication solution.

Rest assured that the security of Entropia Universe accounts is our highest priority. Our development team looks forward to offering increasingly more secure and flexible tools for Entropians to keep their accounts secure in the future.

Thanks, good job! I for one have no more questions.

They are paying attention. :wise:
Now how about fixing some bugs that have been around for longer than most employees? Like properly updating the scoreboard at the end of an hunting event?

I knew it.

Idk how many times I said google authenticator in the State of the union address thread.

It did occur to me as well that this is being introduced as the principal way of logging on to the compets game. Then its logical to extend it to EU itself so there are not (eventually) two log on systems in place. But an excellent and welcome update and clarification.

google authenticator can kiss my shiny metal ass

Well at least it's not being written by MA, although I look forward to when Google changes the API and MA abandon it like the Twitter feed leaving people unable to login.

"What is this google thingy that guy keeps talking about? Let's google it up.... Wait, omg, it means we don't have to pay a half of our annual development budget for our own auth app. Call that coding guy and tell him to return the €500!"

well, let's think for just one second about man-in-the-middle :scratch2:

Google Authenicator, well proven, highly secure?

goldcard? :yay:

Reading through a few posts about how hackers had managed to bypass the security of the 2FA it appears a lot can be blamed on the telephone companies poor security procedures.

How Hackers Reportedly Side-Stepped Google's Two-Factor Authentication

It also looks as if Google support a hardware device that plugs in via usb.

No mobile connection or batteries needed. Security Key works without a data connection, and you can carry it wherever you go on a keychain or in your wallet.

so basically setup a google account and use a FIDO U2F key associated to that account just for EU provided they add the security.

Or they could just add the code to use the FIDO keys to EU as it stands and we can buy a key from Amazon to use.

This makes me happy....Thank you MA for listening!

The list is only where they've got known suppliers like Amazon, plenty of other sites offering the same thing.

Ebay has sellers of the keys and I've bought plenty of things from US distributors and had them shipped overseas.

Goldcard will always be more secure. So I definitely am sticking with that. But I approve the new way too. It's smart. But it really does higher the need for safe mobiling
