There's often times too much negativity on these forums. I see people treat others with disrespect and as a result both sides dig in even more in opposition to one another.

It's okay to be upset. It's okay to get frustrated with this game. People get upset and frustrated because they are passionate about this game. I'm passionate about this game. I'm not advocating that everyone just love each other and hold hands, that's unrealistic. However, I do think there are better ways to handle some of the frustration and anger that is often times displayed on this forum.

This game delivers "highs" and "lows". I've been upset with this game, I've been upset with people in this game. I keep playing it though, I keep coming back. I could make a list of all the things I don't like about EU, but I believe there are other users, like myself, who are tired of seeing and hearing others complain. Negativity can begin to wear on you as a reader.

I believe that nonstop negativity breeds regression. I would rather see progress. MA does a lot of things wrong, but I also believe they do a lot of things right. If they weren't doing at least some things right, you wouldn't be here. I have my complaints, I have things I want to see changed. I'm reserving those for another topic, another day. I want to focus on the reasons why I play this game today. The positive things I enjoy about EU.

I play because...

  • Friendships in the game
  • RCE Platform
  • The skill tree is intriguing and complex
  • The opportunity to progress my avatar
  • The opportunity to succeed economically
  • This game is quite challenging
  • This game is always changing
  • This game can be an adrenaline rush
  • There is no other game quite like this

Why do you play?

most of players could simply answer:

because I'm addicted...

Because it is the best MMORPG out there.

I play because it was my dream to have a piece of an MMORPG (land areas), whether I built it (I was a game developer for over a decade) or I took a piece of an existing system. I play because I used to card count but it is not economical (nor are any hand dealt games around much anymore) to keep going to the casinos.. and the math concepts used in card counting apply also to this game in all 3 professions.

There is the social aspect of the game but most times like to be by myself or a small group of friends because I consider a lot of folks untrustworthy in this game. It is also very easy to get sucked into the whinefest, the bashing of others and mindark, and just overall bitching because it is both easy and lazy. Requires no intellect at all do those.

I PLAY BECAUSE

I WANT TO THE BEST SWEATER OF ALL OF ENTROPIA!

:sweat::sweat::sweat::sweat:

I play because...

no wait, I am not playing at all or close right now :scratch2:

sooo... I'll be back because :wise: ... oh well will let you know at that time

Because:
  • This game lasts forever (well, hopefully), there is no "last level, game over"
  • This game is a real challenge
  • There is no other game quite like this

One of the main reasons I play is that this is a RCE based game. Gives me a reason to play be it win or loose. I loose all my money today I'm fine with it. It's life. So I guess why I am so addicted to the game really. I as well love the day to day data collection I keep around the game. Not sure what drives me more the game or just the data from the game. Another side to this RCE based game is that I love to collect in game and RL. So the stuff that I have collected in game has value or translated to RL: meaning.

Also I guess I do like my friends in the game. Not sure if I like them more than Excel or not but I guess at the end it would have to be friends over Excel - Maybe.

I play because...

I have progress bar/skill lvl OCD

Oh, and there are swirlies.

I am Pavlov's dog.

*woof*

I play because its better than giving to charity.
also, every single reason above
I will play other games after I started this one, but 2 weeks later I'm bored as fuck
"I cant actually get anything back? fuck this!"
>back to EU

I love the game, sometimes i can be kinda down on things but overall can't really grumble.

For me the whole concept had me hooked from day one, for better or worse :laugh:.

It's cheaper and healthier than going to a bar or club, and gets me outta going shopping with the good lady :D.

Dibbler :)

I play because I cling onto the hope that sprang from my early days here, ten years ago, that the amazing and unique idea that MA had could grow into something that would engage the world and that in doing so it could create real opportunities for people to "play" EU as a business or form of self-employment.

I continued to play after realising that MA did not have the creative ability and/or business sense to harness their originality to become the great force that I imagined, because I hoped that would change and that they would either develop as a company, or be sold on to another party who would take EU to the next level and realise the potential that this game has always had.

The hope that I've been clinging onto is decreasing almost daily. My current activity, in terms of PED cycled, is probably 1/10 of what it was 3 or 4 years ago. I just don't see the point any more when almost everything that MA and the planet partners do seems to be focused on short term gain and lacks any understanding of, or ambition towards, the future that EU could have, if it was managed properly.

I used to play because EU was different to everything else.

Exactly this for me too. Great thread, really nice to read the posts.

I Play Because i love the RCE and the Possibility to Profit. I know Profit is a difficult thing to accomplish and is in no way what i expect. I love sci/fi. I like the fact i can get in a spaceship and fly to wherever i want. I've met a ton of good people. My Imagination flows when i think what will this game be like 10 years from now. I came to the game late but i'm here till they shut it down or im broke living in a box :)

I play EU why is one of the best MMORPG's (if MA creates and a "real space" in game then EU is the Best MMORPG...) and the RCE platform keeps my interest high enough to can continue and after a bad loot day , many opportunities to make profit and to have fun, exploration and new friends and also for every single reason above...:cheer::yay::cheer:

Faceof is Dynamic...:)
Faceof...

I play EU about :
Explore to find a :tower:
about i like :ninja: spawns ( :eyecrazy: )
about i like to kill 1 000 000s of creatures :handgun:
about taming :whip: :acid:
and about the :tux::banana: in loot :holyshit:
about i like pirate and :bandit: :sniper: if they get 1 dung from me :monkey:

:makelove::nana:

I play EU because

1) other games suck

2) little kids and teenagers are annoying

3) i have too much free time atm

4) some day like oleg says maybe MA will sell the game to a company that gives a :censored:

I play EU because :

- i just love the visuals and the music
- its easy to relax here from a busy day
- i enclosed myself with a few trusted individuals and i enjoy their company inside EU
- it never gets boring, i always want to know whats comming next

about negativity

Sad things and conflics happen all the time, this is our reality.
As humans we are certainly strong enough to deal with this and if that dosn't work for any reason we can at least filter it out of our perception.

I like grinding, it's like a meditation. Adrenaline rush is definitely not what I look for in games, the real life is enough of three ring circus in itself, so I prefer slow-paced, ideally turn-based games that allow you a lot of time for thinking before acting (my favorite game of all times is Civilization and I completely avoid shooters). I don't hunt above my level, usually don't mess with things I can't kill without healing, so it's more like a hike than a crusade.

Why EU of all games, is because of its endlessness. I hate when a book comes to end and I have to get used to a new setup and new characters, the same with games. An anticipation of a new story is always poisoned with knowing that this too shall pass. That's not a problem with EU, there isn't even a story besides those that players themselves come up with, and real people are inexhaustible source of stories, provided that you manage to hold them in one place for long enough (that's where the RCE comes into play).

Why do you play?

RCE
unlimited skill improvements
most challanging thing I ever played (survive without going bankrupt)

Thought several times about cashing out in the past for different reasons, never did it, and honestly would regret it today.

EU needs a lot improvements to get back to old days good ingame economy, sadly the ballancing responsibilitys at MA/PP offices have no clue about EU ingame economy (ballancing) --- hope sometime there will be a new employee that has a clue about what EU really needs to get more players addicted to it :)

Sorry to inform you but you are wrong. They know very good how it works. Is quite simple:
You depo 1000 ped, you go hunt and loose all in 5h (my average of loose that if bad loot), then you pissed off, rage a bit, complain, make a suport case to cry about bad loot, BUT meanwhile u depo another 1k ped because u want the 1st k back .... Guess what: you loose that too.... story repeat, cry more, meanwhile hit the D ! D ! D! pew pew pew... I want loot !!! D!D!D! pew pew ! cry .... And so on ..... so on.... till ... well :)))) Do you think they are nuts to change anything ????? If I was them, hell no I Won't change a damn thing... no way, I will make loot even worst so ppl depo even more.... Yea.... depo 5k ped ... swirl 1k uber.... go on forum to brag with (3k ped total on card..... well -2k that run but who cares.... AN UBER)
Every one do this and will do this ! Why ? Is addictive and we always but ALWAYS invent a demn reason to keep depo and play :p
:wise:

I play because...
-HELP! I'm held in captivity by wife and kids! (nah kidding, its quite a nice life now that the kids are around 6-7 years old and my own age looks much nicer written in hexadecimal)
-To fill the couple of hours between kids-in-bed and myself-in-bed. (Well, that's a bit of a problem, cause it gets too often stretched to the point where I get less than 6h sleep pr night).
-MA holds my items and PED ransom. Yea, its mentally very hard to just sell out and exit.
-I'm too damn curious what the next event will be like.

Honestly I'd like to spend my skills on other hobby projects, like making a fpga based additive-like synthesizer, but they are too complex, and my home office is too small to get started in the evenings. It's so much easier to just log in and relax.

I miss the old adventurous days tho. Finding sites and enjoying the view (even pre cryengine). I wish there was more interactivity for the adventurers. The nonlisted/random type of events.

I play because I am a gamer. Started in 1981 on my sinclair zx 81 and never looked back.
When playing other games, I always think, why am I not playing entropia.. It simply is the only game you keep going back to, well one of the only games.
Oww I like money too. :)

I play because ... .__ .. ._. ._.. . ._. !!! :yay:

I play to build a community, for the people, and to build something that is not attainable in the real world as the scope of it is simply too large and the physical constraints too great.
I play for the challenge to survive, to teach, to help, and to enjoy the game as a group.

Exactly that, even including the love for Civilization series - hahaha.
