Well here it goes. I am not the biggest fan of hunting. Finding markup is challenging... to say the least. Especially as a low level player. But I do find myself feeling the urge to kill things occasionally

Stipulations

  1. Don't know how often I'll be hunting yet. Still testing the waters, so don't expect constant updates.
  2. I will do my best to include *all* my hunting data. Including team hunts and shared loot events.
  3. I plan to update this side by side with my mining log so my overall returns will all be available on the forums. Don't plan to do any crafting as of yet.
  4. Markup will usually be posted as an approximation. I will probably not include markup on low TT stackables such as paints and extractors or items with excessively low demand that I plan on selling to the trade terminal.
  5. Pointers/advice from experienced hunters are very much appreciated!

With that said... let the fun begin... again!

Markup Added (After Auction Fees): +65.43 - For Part 1 + 2

Profit/Loss: +219.94 PED - For Part 1 + 2

Comments: A few things to keep in mind here. For the most part I was killing smaller kerbs (mature-guardian). Once I maxed the philosopher's sword I popped a few neurostims and messed around with some alpha/dominants to speed things up. Most of this run was done with Glacier sword, maybe about 20% was Philosopher's Sword.

See below for my thoughts on iron missions.

Subbing and good luck!

All done with 60k Kerbs! Now... was it worth it?

This mission cost me roughly 4528 PED. I'm not entirely sure why the TT returns were so good. It might be related to migration. DPP on Glacier Sword + Trauma 1 = 2.894, Philosopher's Sword = 2.915. These TT returns seem a bit unlikely. So for now we're going to assume TT return was either 90% or 95%.

@ 90% TT return ( 4075.20 )
- I would have lost 452.80 PED TT.

@ 95% TT return ( 4301.60 )
- I would have lost 226.40 PED TT.

After including the mission rewards for 60k Kerb and 600 + 1200 Cauds, my total skill gain was 53.90 PED, not including gains to strength/agility/psyche, obviously.

To chip in 53.90 PED worth of skills @ let's say an average markup of 1200% would cost 646.80 PED.

If this mission had resulted in 85% TT return or 3848.80 PED, I would have lost 679.20 PED, at which point chipping in these skills (assuming 1200% markup) would have been cheaper.

So are iron missions worth it? This took me over 20 hours to complete altogether. @95% TT return that means I saved 420.40 PED vs buying these skills off auction.

420 PED for 20 hours, comes out to ~21 PED per hour.

So my conclusion is, if your goal is to gain skills as cheaply as possible, and you're fairly certain you can maintain ~90-95% TT return or more while keeping defensive cost low, iron missions are worth it! Or hell, maybe you just find hunting to be tons of fun. Shoot away folks, these missions are not so bad. I guess.

This is just from an average/low level hunter's perspective, of course.

The more DPS you can put out, the more PED you're potentially saving per hour by doing these missions. I'm sure the savings on skill gains can get pretty amazing on the higher level missions!

TT return: 1995.21 PED (89.28%)

Markup Added (After Auction Fees): +31.18 PED

Profit/Loss: -226.60 PED

Comments: What a miserable weekend of hunting. TT return was horrible. But the real pain was trying to figure out which iron mission to do.

My first choice was Longu. I headed over to the Longu LA near Rei's Defence. After killing about 20 Longu I gave up. I was doing more running than killing. There just simply isn't a great spot for high density low maturity Longu. No other taxed areas were visited on this hunt.

Next up Atrax. I gave up after about 50 kills. Found a decent spawn of them but I ended up getting swarmed too often and the terrain was mountainous and annoying. Was not going to deal with a 5% tax on Z's little farm either. I ended up coming back to wrap this up later. Slapped on the Musca and plowed through them. Loot was horrible.

Cornus were near the Atrax so I gave them a shot. Turns out they have hitbox issues. Auto-use tool had my avatar swinging up at the sky randomly half the time. Great.

Finally settled on Drones. Killed about 200 of them. Loot was ~50% return.

Moved over to Argonauts after drones. Loot was decent.

Killed a few eviscerators. I knew this was a bad call but I wanted to see if I had enough DPS to deal with the regen. The answer was no.
