Question: Do you think that the regular LA tax rate (4%) is fair?

After going around different LAs to do my iron missions i've always "felt" a dent in my returns hunting on 4% LAs. I personally only hunt on LAs when there is markup to be found, and I feel myself as a player that 3% is fair to me. I don't necessarily get this feeling that my returns are dented at 3, but at 4%.

Again lots of voodoo tin foil stuff here, but the ultimate question is:

Do you think that the tax rate of 4% is fair to entropians? Could someone provide some ROI, math, and some averages to the table on this particular rate? I've never owned an LA in my life so I don't know how it feels to be on the other side.

Ofc not.
4% is a steal and should only be payed if mob has unique mu, great mission or event.

Story of cersumon and oculus. At 4% they payed almost nothing, but when we took down tax too 1,79% and 0.79% trafic was up so much and they started earning every day.

Depends on the mob really.. but for most mobs I wouldn't hunt on the LA at anything more than 1% tax

I'm pretty sure most of LA's are empty because the TAX is too high and the advantages too low.

its not about an exact number .... 1% ... 4%.... its about what offert this LA provide to the hunter, and why that hunter should go to hunt inside LA instead outside.

In case there's same mob outside LA than inside, but inside cost 1%, would still unfair.

But if the returns on an LA is influenced by the amount of hunting and mining going on in that area, then maybe a higher tax is worth paying?

For a landowner 4% tax means there has to be 1200 ped looted on the land for a 50 ped payout.

there is nothing in my extensive hunting log to indicate a difference in taxed vs untaxed up until 4%. but we will not know for sure as MA cannot step up and say how the tax system works as that would be revealing details on how return system works which they cannot have
have had months with 100%+ tt on 4% tax land and months with 95%ish on 0% tax with same equipment
but based on my experience, I don't believe that (all) tax% are deducted from your returns

Yeah... probably the alerts telling players "WARNING WARNING YOU ARE ON A TAXED AREA" its because it does not matter at all.

as usual, that is not what I said.
just that my publicly available hunting log doesn't show the difference
stress also on "my", maybe others have a different experience
or maybe I am lying
or maybe my return calculations are wrong
too many variables to know and as said, MA will not clarify

I just want to share this comment.

Was interesting reading for me some time ago, but of course we can't know for sure, how taxes and loot are implemented.

If that is correct, all LA owners can set max tax rate and will not affect the players in any way ......

Not sure if any LA owners tried that before.

i seem to recall a discussion here some years ago, in relation to mining on taxed vs non-taxed LAs, and something about the avg # of stones for same size claims on taxed LA's being less than on non-taxed, indicating that the tax does indeed come from the player's returns, not from MA.

maybe someone can dig a link that out? sorry but i don't have time :)

That guy mixed up percentage of "revenue generated through participant activity" with percentage of "loot". It's not the same thing.

I believe you meant this?

(Don't need to thank me...I just happen to be free and bored enough to google for it. That's all.)

As for personal experience, a noteworthy "case" that (in my opinion) supports this...was when I hit "tiny" claims of angelic grit.

If the hit was outside of an LA (non-taxed), I would mine up 2 angelic grit for a "tiny" claim. If it was a hit within an LA (taxed), I would only mine up 1 angelic grit.

Thats actually a reduction of 50% instead of just whatever the LA tax rate is set at. Guess they round down, instead of rounding up (to benefit the average player) the discrete loot units when it comes to taxed loot.

Haha....sorry. Please disregard what I said about the angelic grit. Its an instance where "my memory" fails me.

After looking back, I've found instances where 1 angelic grit was dug up in 0% taxed areas too...so it disproves what I've said.

And it wasn't a "tiny" claim for when 2 angelic grit was dug up....it was a "Poor III".

Sorry about that. Hehe

Just need someone to set 10% on an LA and someone to have the balls to hunt on it long term. Probably the best way is for the landowner(s) to hunt on it to lower the risk.

I think any and all attempts to quantify 'fairness' are futile.

Because, mind you, it's an entirely subjective concept.

Taxation without representation...

Too bad there's no Tea to go dump off of Port Atlantis (not sure long Island counts)

Taxation without representation...

It isn't a democracy. It is a business. Maybe the term "tax" is a bit of a misnomer, call it the owner's cut or rake or margin.

To make up for my blooper I guess...

Pretty sure you guys know that Tiny (II) deposits are around 0.25 PED to 0.99 PED right?

Which means that its "average" is about 0.62 PED.

So....

With 75 "counts" of Tiny II deposits found on non-taxed areas, I've got an average of 0.617466667 PED.

With 26 "counts" of Tiny II deposits found on 4% taxed LAs, I've got an average of 0.594230769 PED.

Go figure the rest. ;)

Sure, you have a good test going but 26? On taxed? You really think 26 is enough of a sample size?

actually tiny is 0,5 - 0,99 ped... 0-0,5 ped is minimal. exception are with tax deduction, as it is applied after u got ur claim.

Taxing a land at 4% because that's what everyone else is doing doesn't seem a good idea to me because there is so many non-taxed spawns out there as well. If a tax is too high and I don't think it is worth it then I will move to an untaxed region if I can.

Best to determine a lands own value on a case by case basis based on uniqueness of mob, convenience of spawn (in relation to density/tp), events etc.

Yeah... probably the alerts telling players "WARNING WARNING YOU ARE ON A TAXED AREA" its because it does not matter at all.

ROFLOL :tux:

Don't you know that the 4% tax is covered by MA charity fund for old grinders. Everything from 4-10% is from hunters. This is clear as vodka :beerchug:

Sure, you have a good test going but 26? On taxed? You really think 26 is enough of a sample size?

Of course its never enough. ;)

Please feel free to add (your data) to it.

actually tiny is 0,5 - 0,99 ped... 0-0,5 ped is minimal. exception are with tax deduction, as it is applied after u got ur claim.

Well...I've got a 32 pec "Tiny (II)" in the sample....but am pretty sure I've never seen any "Minimal (I)" that's more than 24 pecs.

If you've found some which proves otherwise...please inform us about it.....as well as update entropedia on the "new" deposit sizes.

1.039044092898014 % Bigger return on the untaxed, Ofc your samplesize is way to small but that sure looks dead on.

I'ld rather look at it the other way around actually.

The "average" derived from the 0% taxed samples (0.617466667 PED) endorses the assumption that "Tiny (II)" claims averages to about 0.62 PED.

The "average" derived from the 4% taxed samples (0.594230769 PED) indicates to us that its off by about 4.15%...from the "expected average" of 0.62 PED (should it have been non-taxed).

Pretty close to 4% if you ask me.

So unless proven otherwise, its "safe" to assume that the LA tax comes from "our own pockets" when we mine on them.

As for OP's question...on whether applying a 4% tax is "fair"? Its never "fair". It just depends on which side your standing.

Being a player, anything more that's being "leeched off" from our pockets ain't gonna be fair...with EU already being this tough to survive in.

Being a "land owner", you gotta consider what's "fair returns" for the amount your putting in to buy the LA....not to mention the risks that your gonna be taking on.

Applying a high tax means that less people are gonna be hunting on your land. Applying a low tax might not result in more people hunting on your land either...but is definitely gonna hurt your "fair returns".

Its a "give and take" that your constantly gonna be asking yourself in my opinion.

the taxes are fair if you can get summary markup on taxed area higher than on untaxed area + tax %

Example:
you average mu on untaxed area is 10%
but there is taxed area 3% on which you can get average mu >13%
then you can mine there
in other case its nonsense

As a former landowner I can see the other side as well..

like I said at 4% tax a landowner needs 1200 ped turnover on his land to receive 50 ped payout

At 3% the turnover is 1675 ped to get a 50 ped payout.

I bought/sold my landarea (OLA43) at 125k which has good mining ores/enmatters.

At 4% tax and only Mourners on the land the income in tax was around 200 ped.
I added neconu DNA to appeal to hunters as well, and held regular events for both hunters and miners. Roi went up to around 300 ped a week.

At 300 ped a week x52 weeks =15.600 ped a year net income the roi = 125k ped /15,6k = 8 years roi

Now let's lower the tax to 3% and assume the turnover remains the same.

Original income at 4% 300 ped = 6 payouts of 50 ped = 7200 ped turnover per week.
7200 ped turnover /1675 = 4 .29 payouts of 50 ped = 214 ped income per week.

214 ped a week x 52 = 11,154 ped a year net income with a roi= 125k ped /11.1k = 11,2 years roi

cross compare to auto income: CLD

for 125k you can buy 58 DEEDS (at current marketprice of 2150)

58 Deeds x 3 ped x 52 weeks = 9048 ped per year

roi = 125k/9048 ped = 13.8 years

So for someone wanting to invest in a landarea now, Tax can go to 3% to still have a better ROI than having deeds, but it needs a lot of work.
Most of us however, bought the deeds at 1000 ped or 1100 ped (after some mystery buyer bought the lot up). From that perspective tax cannot go to 3% since sitting on 125 deeds gives a much better ROI.

Ever heard of the laffer curve?
Your Roi wont change if you have less tax because there is always a golden spot where you can maximize tax revenue.
Obviously People are getting turnover on 4% but iam thinking its in the far end of the curve.
Mixing with the levers and eventually you can provide a service people dont mind dropping some peds your way.
