I joined this game over 11 years ago have deposited well over 1 million ped not sure exactly but I find well worth the investment. I never expected anything more than a good time win or lose. Unfortunately it seems many people have taken this on as a way of making a living and in this it has ruined their experience. I'm not saying they are wrong for this but MA never promised you a hourly wage, a weekly salary, in fact they never even said you have the chance to become rich. That is what a job is for and why this is a "game" or "hobby". It is amazing that many have turned this into a profitable venture. I can see why many have soured on this in that case, when you are able to be profitable and all of a sudden it is gone. Only recently have I been engaged in the upper tier involvements inside this game and now I see why people take it so seriously. Unfortunately with this success people have let greed take over their lives I'm afraid. Now jealousy and hatred have show their ugly head. The events MA runs seem to perpetuate this, the old robot wars and such people stood side by side against a common foe but but now with events that offer huge rewards people have started "cheating" the system. Before short of a few dickheads KS'ing mobs or hoarding them people got along fine. If you wanted to take out your frustration on others you had the rig and numerous other pvp areas to do this. I have no idea now where I have gone with this but I think the game is still great if you play it as a game and not take it too seriously. Believe me I still get jealous of avatars looting more than me or getting rare items but only one I have to blame is myself cause i was sitting afk at the auctioneer many times :D but in general I have gotten out of this game what I had expected from the beginning and really don't expect to get much more out of it than I already have. And besides it's "dynamic"

This is what I expected, not in detail but this video blowed my mind so many years ago.
I've accepted that not everything in the promo came to life and was true.
But the general feeling has almost always been there, about the possibilities...

Sometimes reading the forums too much kills the feelings...

I never expected to make a living from the game.
I did expect to make money instead of spending money from living in this universe.
That I have achieved/accomplished/managed.
I did hope to make more than what I have, but then I knew that to make more I'd have to invest more.
And for a long time I was prioritising irl investment which in the end was the best prioritisation I've ever made.

Only invest what you are prepared to loose!

The jealousy and the hatred has always been there.. but there's two kinds of players in EU... those that play for a good time and love the game for what it means (which is something I lose sight of frequently), and those that like the challenge of beating the statistical expectations.. in my view this is what makes EU the most difficult game out there. The odds are always stacked against you.

For the record.. I have no problem playing this game for fun, and I would if I could grind at my level and bankroll and keep losses to $50 per month or less, but that's absolutely impossible. So I'll mine and embrace the challenge of making a profit without spending $15000 USD to do it.

I'm not judging you by any means, but it's hard for me to get my head around someone spending over $100,000 on a video game. Even if I had billions, it just wouldn't seem worth it to me. Each to his own, I suppose.

This struck me as well.
Lol, I cant even afford a tenth of that amount to spend ingame uness I considered it an investment.

But if I had the millions, hell, why not spend it here? If it give you a good time, then why not?
Better spend it here then taking it with me in my grave.

whats the difference in spending it here or spending it on a 100.000$ automobile (while you can drive a 2.000$ car as well?)

Yea I agree, whatever makes you happy. I wouldn't spend it on a car either. I suppose spending it on a game is as good as anything else.

I'm by no means a millionaire  But it averages out to around 174 per week over those years. The vast majority of it was early on when the thrill was high and items were vastly overpriced. I'm not exactly sure what my items are worth now and earlier on skills were worth way more than they are now. I used to play the game like a casino crafting oreamp 101,102,103... back before vu 10 when regularly they would hit for ATH's. Now I play it much more casually so my spending has reduced considerably. I won't lie I blew thousands chasing ATH's in the crafting/slot machines before I realized it was a dead end. I have made many bad investments over time as well and gotten scammed a time or two. Thankfully I have have learned from my mistakes. I don't readily recruit people to play this game cause I see it as more of a game then an investment nowadays, I have amazed people telling them stories of what virtual items sell for in here and what people have won or lost and they say I am crazy but then they turn around and fly out to vegas and blow in a weekend what i may do over a year. So to each his own

Actually, MA promised a LOT of those things in their various marketing campaigns over the years.

Yes, when you come back down to earth you realize it simply sounds too good to be true.

And things that are too good to be true can't last and we have seen that. But MA has used these promises to draw droves of new players here who are looking to make money in this virtual universe. That's what they were sold. That's the expectation.

They also use transactions of high value items and real estate in their marketing, either directly or through third party articles, to draw players in. But they don't market their ability to obliterate value in items, either by failing to resolve bugs for unacceptably long periods of time or massive global nerfs to items after people have invested significant sums into them.

The problem is setting expectations then failing them. If they can't maintain expectations they should manage them better and set them lower. But that wouldn't sell.

No, that was YOUR expectation (and of many others). But not the general expectation (at least not mine).
They said you CAN profit. They never said you WILL profit.
And that you can profit has been confirmed.

Thats the main problem, people expected to much based on possibilities that entropia provided.

To take the CLD's as example. many blamed MA for not getting the 30% ROI.
They said MA promised that. But MA never did that, they wrote "expected ROI of 30%" and not guaranteed 30% return.

Maybe you can blame them for painting the picture nicer than it was for real, but name a company that doesnt do so.

Thats my problem also, like you i had been a good depositor and i know that this money i put in here i can or will lose tkats ok.
But as you i want a good playtime in the game and to be able to much in the game and not get the feeling like all money goes down fast in a " black hole ".
So now days i almost stop to deposit i can put in 100$ one or two times per year.:)
