From that picture I would say she was scanning from the inside.
 
For a while now, most species on Next Island have a boss mob. Ningaal is the boss of the Chimeras. They are not exactly rare in terms of hard to find, just that there is only ever one and when killed it respawns after a short cooldown period.

There is some development on NI going on, but they're very silent about it...

why? I mean, good that there is development going on, but if they want more people to go there surely it needs to be publicised.

Can't double check right now but he used to reside in the higher maturity Chimera spawn west of Biggle Bog (see map on NI Forum).
