OK, did a small test and wanted to share info:

FYI, there used to be an idea that the decay on the tool influenced the skills you get, hence why I used the LS-V for so long wasting peds. :D

Scanner - LS-V
[System]: You have gained 0.2739 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2738 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2736 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2735 experience in your Scan Animal skill.

[System]: You have gained 0.2947 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2948 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2949 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2920 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2921 experience in your Biology skill.

[System]: You have gained 0.3465 experience in your Botany skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.3466 experience in your Botany skill.

Scanner - ES500
[System]: You have gained 0.2734 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2732 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2731 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2730 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2728 experience in your Scan Animal skill.

[System]: You have gained 0.2951 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2952 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2953 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2954 experience in your Biology skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2955 experience in your Biology skill.

[System]: You have gained 0.3467 experience in your Botany skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.3467 experience in your Botany skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.3468 experience in your Botany skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.3468 experience in your Botany skill.

(all skill gains are listed in the order they were gotten, first with LS-V then with ES500)

(Also note, the the very slight fluctuation in skills is due to the skill gain waves that exist, to my knowledge.)

Hope this info helps those that want to improve scanning skills. Good luck.

To test properly you have to do the same amount of clicks on each for a significant amount of clicks and then add up the total skill gain.

Not saying you're wrong but this could just be getting the same skill amount per message but fewer messages with the lower decay tool.

I too have an ES500 and have used it extensively, before that one I used the crappy ones like everybody else. You get about the same skill "lines" with either, and the LS-V has over 4 times the decay of the ES500. I still think you get a bit more skills with the LS-V but definitely not 4 times more.

It's not that weird when you think about it, more decay means more skills but nobody said exactly how much more. Double decay does NOT imply double skills.

The ES500 is just far superior and a lot more economical, saves you a ton of PED if you want to skill info.

Thanks for doing the test :)

In crafting and in extraction of mining claims I've observed multipliers of the base skill amount (2x, 3x, 4x and 5x, not sure if there are bigger ones).

2017-11-29 07:30:02 [System] [] You have gained 0.0356 experience in your Mining skill.
2017-11-29 07:30:16 [System] [] You have gained 0.0356 experience in your Mining skill.
2017-11-29 07:39:42 [System] [] You have gained 0.1069 experience in your Mining skill.
2017-11-29 11:23:48 [System] [] You have gained 0.1424 experience in your Mining skill.

In extraction the TT amount you extract Counts towards the skillgain. Example 1 Lyst pull vs 1 valurite pull won't have same TT skillgain if u were to get a skillgain on both. This doesn't affect on Towers when u pull do a 2-3k With 1 pull, actually no sure of the Tower part.

Or the system tries to average you out if u are extracting 1 same claim With many pulls.

From three short runs I've had so far, it seems I can get that base 0.035x skillgain on any ore.

However, higher unit tt stuff seems to give bigger and more frequent multipliers, while those few lyst claims gave 0.035x only.

That extracting high unit tt stuff gives more skills proportional to decay has been long suspected; but now we're getting an interesting insight into how exactly it works.

.

It's obvious the skills function the same as harvesting and decay doesn't matter. As you can see it's on a linear decline skill period the LS-V used first and the last gain was .2735 then the very next gain it doesn't matter what scanner you use you know it will be .2734 which is .0001 less and we see that confirmed here

Scanner - ES500
[System]: You have gained 0.2734 experience in your Scan Animal skill.
[System]: You have gained 0.2732 experience in your Scan Animal skill.

As I have said in harvesting the skill gain in PH-1 and PH-3 is exactly the same and harvesting has a lot of scanning skills so it would make sense other professions like scanning function in the same linear skill period paths.

Thanks for the info :D

What is interesting is if you skill this way like I do in harvesting you will start to notice some interesting things about skilling. Maybe people will now find out all my secrets

the [base skill gain points] stay the same on high or low decay cost items.
but the frequency of skill gains changes with [decay cost + ammo cost] per item use.

Interesting theory, but not sure about it. I scanned about 200 mobs with both SL-V and ES500 and notice I had less skill gains with SL-V in the 200 mob test. Obviously 400 total is not big enough data pool, so more testing to see if your theory is true is needed.

my observation is:

i get the same [base skill gain points] with BC-10 and ML-35+Dante.
i get them seldom with BC-10 and very often with ML-35+Dante.

so it is likely every shot a dice roll is made, if there is a skill gain.
the odds for the dice roll will count in decay+ammo versus mob size and own skill level.
