Simple really.

Why?

Are they scared? The servers wont take the load? Put a big red mark on their backs with the gambling authorities?

Why oh why MA don't you properly advertise the game?

For the love of god, why are MA and planet partners allergic to bloody advertising.

because they fail to see that it will increase their income.
they see it as just another expense

would be my guess

They kinda do, all those paid articles on gaming sites, the recent piece at Forbes etc, but I guess their budget stretches only so far.

In 2007 and 2008 when EU won MMO of the month there was a huge influx of new players. I'm sure after that positive advertising isnt lost on them. The problem back then was retaining players as many found Entropia controls clunky or didnt enjoy the associated costs.

Controls are still fairly clunky IMO but they have done a lot to help new players get started. I think they need to embrace advertising once they have resolved their server issues and bring in a new wave of players. Just depends on how much they are willing to spend to acquire a new 0layer and then retain them

They need to stop thinking in such a limited and blinkered way, think outside the box a little, learn from RL companies

Advertising takes 2 main forms..

Direct advertising TV, Internet, Magazines
MA have tried some of this in a fairly desultory manner, and tbh those I have seen are a little misleading, they concentrate far too much on the RCE aspect and not enough on game content. They encourage new players to believe they can make money here, without explaining they will need to invest to earn. How many newbs have you had to disappoint with a lesson in the reality of playing EU ?

Indirect Advertising..
My thoughts
They need to consider the ploys of many RL companies.. Coffee mugs, Pens, Calendars with company logos abound. Many sales of the main product are achieved from someone asking, where did you get that, what do they do/sell, are they any good ?
and it would be a money spinner too, one where we would give them yet more hard earned cash but actually feel we got something more than a nebulous promise.

Hands up.. who would like to own EU and PP designed...
T-Shirts
Coffee mugs
Mouse mats
Calendars (get to sell them every year not just once) Could even have an in game photo contest for the entries for next years shots
3D models of things from the game

Come on MA wake up many gamers are also avid collectors of junk...oops I mean interesting memorabilia

and when their friends see it, they will want to know more, maybe come and give it a try.

and there are many reliable companies out there that can produce this stuff for MA, without any risk of loss of copyrights, they can deliver large or small orders
All MA would need is a couple of people to handle the marketing and order the goods, and dispatch out to the players. It wouldn't be huge. Possibly they may even be able to get the manufacturer to do direct dispatch anyways.

They can advertise AND profit too. Sell posters for like $5 markup. Sell toys, sell everything. We will buy it and it will advertise you. They kind of tried this with their webshop for shirts and mugs, but then gave up. Most people don't even know of their physical shop because it's so hidden.

They have found that it's more profitable to market to past players than new ones. Over the years many people have come and gone - including many big depositers.

So rather than spending tons of money getting someone new in and trying to get them to be a depositer its more efficient to just get people that they know have deposited back in game.

They do this type of marketing in a few ways.

1. Retargeting ads. So EU ads follow past players all over the place.
2. Funding massive 100k loots which they then promote via press release.
3. Changes to their most popular events like mm and migration.
4. Announcing "exciting" new features to be added I the hopes the old players will come back and deposit a bit to try them out.

Yeah it's a bit strange, but it can be an effect of using planetparnters, pp are meant to be the ones doing the markering but they are to small and don't have the resources to do it.

Well, no point in ND advertising Rocktropia, since MA broke RT and refuses to fix it....

Advertising, especially for a small business, is a gamble, not an investment.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

When advertising is done correctly it's the lifeblood of any business. It's what allows small businesses to BECOME big businesses. And it's what allows big businesses to stay afloat during even the hardest of times.

I've been in marketing/adverting for many years and have worked with many small and large businesses and I can tell you right now it's the businesses that have your same thought process that crash and burn the hardest.

I'm pretty sure it's about scaling. The system they got was designed long ago to emulate a persistent universe(long since forgotten by the dev team which is why we have so much instancing now). As you know the areas are set up to be on separate servers very unlike the WOW system which just instances a new world as the population increased. Remember PERSISTENCE WAS THE REASON I SIGNED UP. AND instances are mostly why I dislike EU now. So, they always knew this limitation hence no advertising for fear of having to redesign the entire system.

Unless all advertising is effective, it is a gamble, not an investment, by definition.

If, in your many years, you're claiming you've never come across any ineffective advertising, you're either a liar or the greatest advertising genius the world has ever seen.

entropia universe advertises on youtube, ive seen several ads for it. as well as misc websites ive seen them on.

Maybe they are waiting for the good timing?

don't try to lure me into a maze of circular logic and symantics of verbiage to look correct. By your same logic and definition any business, its activites, staff, products, investments and hell even life itself is a gamble too.

Are these not cookies from google search? Do people who never played this game even know it exist? I never met anyone in real life who ever heard of this game.

pretty certain that it's cookies, i even get those ads on dragonball-tube and ffxiah.com

I see ads on my Facebook and such occasionally :).

Any advertising would be pointless atm anyway...why advertise a game who has lag,lag and some more lag,the gameplay is freaking boring(target mob and hit autoclick, run arround and press a botton from time to time and drop a probe, sit in front of the crafting machine and let it craft for you)?
The only appeal this game has is that it's a RCE,but when you try it and see the returns that appeal goes away as well.
Games that are advertised usually provide entertainment for a set ammount of money...over here you can't find entertainment

Pretty much like any casino game if you think about it... Remove the element of winning money and what do you have?

Don't get me wrong RCE is a great concept if they would have followed through to a point of setting up smart contracts in the game to allow free enterprise. But they chose to just push everyone to hunt/mine/craft and any only give enterprise options to the few with the biggest wallets (banks, LA, shops,planets...etc).

Why are you playing then?
Probably because like everyone else they want to win money?

I gave up on that a long time ago. I just assume that any money I have tied up with EU is now gone.

A really big advertising drive is bloody expensive with some games it's 30% of their entire production budget.

They just need to get twitch streamers winning / looting loads of stuff and they'd have an influx of players for a while - just give them "lucky" avatars and we'd be inundated.
