Interesting info about this forum

Great analysis for website developers. Why that site needs to filter its own content and e.g. replace "arse" with asterisks when it appears in "charset" is beyond me, lol.

How does it earn ad revenue , I don't see any ads on it ?

Sites such as Hypestat extrapolate website traffic statistics and potential ad revenue from very limited data sources (e.g. Alexa). They do not have access to actual website visitor logs and must estimate such data via various questionable and inaccurate methods.

I can confirm that there are many inaccuracies on the http://planetcalypsoforum.com.hypestat.com/ page, including the basic visitor statistics, links and traffic sources, as well as the claim that
This server doesn't support HTTPS and doesn't support HTTP/2.
which is completely untrue.

Also, as already pointed out, PlanetCalypsoForum does not display any ads, so the ad revenue projections are pointless (it seems the ad revenue estimation is simply another extrapolation based on the already extrapolated and inaccurate traffic data).

About the only truly accurate information on the website linked in the opening post is the name of the site itself:
Hypestat.com

Oh ok, lol. I retract the superficial judgment. The funny filter catches gave me doubts but didn't think it through.

There is a nice browser plugin "HTTPS Everywhere", I think it is prudent to check if PCF is in their database.

To demonstrate how inaccurate the data on sites such as Hypestat can be, here is a comparison of actual PCF traffic statistics compared to Hypestat estimations:

Jan-Dec 2017ActualHypestatAccuracy
Daily Uniques2250150066.67%
Monthly Uniques630004500071.43%
Daily Pageviews720002250031.25%
Pages/Visit321546.88%

Accuracy is simply hypestat/actual expressed as a percentage, which is a rough indication of how accurately Hypestat estimated each traffic metric.

Yep probably is, the graphs come fro Alexa, wonder where their visitor data comes from.

There are dozens of sites similar to Hypestat.com that rely on Alexa data, which is notoriously inaccurate. A quick Google search will provide lots of articles and studies that detail the shortcomings of Alexa.

on https, though, it is true that trying to load https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/ gives an error

Just because a certain protocol (such as HTTPS) is not activated for a particular service or software does not mean that the server does not support that protocol, as claimed by Hypestat with regard with PCF.

HTTPS is supported by pretty much every modern web server OS, including the one hosting PCF.

It seems planetcalypsoforum.com does have https activated, but with a self signed certificate (issued by s1.planetcalypsoforum.com). Their summary info is indeed wrong (self signed certificate is still technically https), though detail given below explains what they are actually checking

Something caught me too. There are more visitors from Norway than Sweden. (wtf)

Another example where Hypestat's Alexa-based predictions are very erratic and unreliable.

In reality, Sweden is ranked 2nd in visitors to PCF, while Norway is 15th (with barely 20% of the number of visitors from Sweden).

Cool thanks.

Mind to share the % of different countries? Can be fun to see where most people are from :)
For the sake of statestics.

I refer a lot of people to this forum when there are non-players asking about the game. I tell them to watch more twitch and read up on forums to get a good idea of what they are getting into. I'd guess I probably send maybe 2-3 people per week that way.

Hmm turned ad blocker off to see what ad's and not seeing any. Interesting wonder where ad revenue is coming from, hidden auto clicks or something?

I would make a guess, that what they might mean by this is that, based on the site traffic, it has the potential to earn that estimated revenue, if the right ads were to be advertised. :wise:

This is exactly same what I do. Imo we all should work to get more players ingame.
