A study on profitability of various finders

Here I want to show the different outcomes of different finders in the same zone over and over again.

So far I'll use

F-101 - F-102 - F-103 - F-104 - F-105 - F-106

Once you know what is there and how much % of it

its easier to make profits and mine for missions

Also we will see the most eco mining (minimum costs), same as hunters hunt as eco possible

I do believe that most "common" resources can be found at any depth, but I wonder at what costs

With different outcomes I mean :

Different resources to be found

% found of different resources
(think MA does adjust this)

Costs made

I'll do (daily) missions, not for the tokens but for the skills

Its also my way of mining and optimizing a zone

All finders have been maxed and NO amps nor enhancers are used
.

Hope this helps even for the starting miners

Remember to sell in small amounts at a decent % to sqeeuse every pec out of your returns
.

For now I'm only testing UNL finders

Each run will be done with 50 ped so 100 drops for enmatter
Each run will be done with 100 peds for 100 drops for ores

Every run is done seperated

With bad or good results I'll always finish the run

I'll wait at least 48 hours between runs

All calculations are TT value's

I’m no math major, but if your cost was 50 ped in probes and 1.66 ped decay, that would be 51.66 cost. Subtracted from your return of 54.63 ped would be 2.97 ped profit. So don’t know where you got 1.66 ped profit. Also, I think it is a nice endeavor but I don’t think 100 drops is enough to get an accurate sample size to truly judge profitability/loss. There is too much variance in mining in 2018.

Are you focusing on TT influence of various finders (i.e. decay) or markup output (i.e. depth)?

Kind of a back-asswards proposition.

I can go grab rookie finder and strap a lvl 5 on it and go nuts on RT and produce more "profitability" (markup out) than I could going VRX 3000 anywhere on caly.

Knowledge of how depth affects resource distribution is paramount to success as a miner. But if you want to completely take knowledge and math skills out of it, you can grind alt until you keel over in agony and boredom lol

matching finder depth to avg depth of the resources you seek is always key, and thank god we have LBML for that. But things like alt (basically = lyst) have 1m - 9999m depth, so it becomes partially irrelevant, and there are few spots in game where you can drop lvl 5+ amps and produce ~120% markup output. Ark pvp4 and RT being the only two I've found.

It would be fun to see a longterm study done on TT returns using MD-50 versus a .04 decay finder like the L30, VRX, etc...

So today I used the F-102 on the same zone and here are the results

F-102 finder was used

Did something similar as LeeLoo just before she posted her results. Aka my own little silly research have differant variables. Well, anyway, I keep my runs in this thread if anyone get any kicks out of it.

Info:
  • I test in one particular area on Calypso.
  • I do 100 drop runs on both enmatter and ores.
  • I post min, max and average find depths of all finds.
  • For all resources found I also add the averaged LBLM depth info of all finds.
  • Any variable you want to see also I can add next run.

Two days ago I went to an LA and did a 100 drop run and had one 170 pedder, an IX Ample and an X Considerable. A 200% tt run.
Maybe the server remembered it :)

FIND % WITH DIFFERANT FINDERS

I thoght it could be interesting to see a comparison between the finders and the find % for them.
The "m" number after the resource name is the average find depth on Little Big Mining Log.

Conclusions and guesses so far:
  • Way less Belkar was found with the deeper finder. Belkar is actually a more common filler than lyst and oil. Actually there are more logged finds on LBML on belkar than Crude Oil and Lysterium. And the depth range is from 5 m to 6114 m which makes Belkar the most common resource on all depths.
  • Higher find % of deeper resources with the F103 as caldorite, cumbriz and narcanisum. But the current markup wont save us. But we can guess that we can target certain resources based on depth.
  • Some indications that that you may find deeper resources with the F105 vs F103. This run I found slightly more Energized Crystal (avg 805 m). New finds was Erdorium Stone (avg 752 m), Devil's Tail (avg 678 m), Iolite Stone (avg 869 m) and Kanerium Ore (794 m).

Hiya Loco and off course you are welcome to post here, cant wait to see more results.
Keep going :)

I'm very interested to see what information I can glean from this thread! Sometimes this type of info makes something 'click' in my brain! (jump on that if you want)

The run with the F-102 did not gave us new enmatters so far, the run for ores did.

The new ores are Gazzurdite, Blausariam and Cumbriz with the F-102

Knowing the zone and the finder ...... this shows why I lost with the F-101 ore run and only had a return of 54,66% since I only found resources between 19 - 235,5 deep. Probably some 1 with a F-103 / F-104 (or another finder with about equal depth) was here before me (I assume in the last 2 - 4 hours)

Added a log of my second run here.

I also added a table showing the find % of the differant resources with differant finders. So far only Omegaton Detectonator MD-1 (L) and the F103. F105 with depth enhancers next time.

I've still been doing that with a F-211 vs Ziplex Z15 (only main difference being decay to avoid confounding of other things like depth), and still no significant difference in claim sizes (I think we've talked about that before). I still have one more set of finders to burn up before I finalize the results, but it's pretty much at the point now that the statistical tests aren't going to change.

Added a test run with the F-102
As I already mentioned mining was down since january.
The Hit Rating was a lot lower since more drops where needed and also the claims where smaller so more tiny, very poor and poor.

I did this before as well......my main advice, ignore outliers. Big hits are useless in this data set. The meaningful answers i got was when i looked at an 80% distribution ish of finds from the top of the bellcurve. (eg. 30-40% either side).

Sorry if you mentioned this already, didnt have time to read through it all.

Good luck!

Thank you Ace :)

I was thinking of doing some missions this way to see the average returns indeed + also the cost

Nothing big yet (return is less than usual now anyway) but if I get a biggy I will count for that separated.
