Why do you play EU? Entertainment? Hope to get rich? Actually profiting?

In ancient days, it was for social interaction, excitement of exploring new things, a form of 'cheap gambling' that was cheaper than a real world casino a couple of blocks from home, and for hopes of at least breaking even some day.

These days, it's mainly just to fight insomnia...

Hard to pick. I still play just for fun. It's been a hobby for almost 12 years. I enjoy my time in EU and feel I get good entertainment value for my money. I suppose my avatar has quite a lot of value, but I don't think about that because I have no intention of selling out.

Peace, Miles

Well when I was a kid I got a swirlie and when I get one now I feel young again :D

I didn't see:

  • No level cap
  • No subscription
  • Outlasted most of its competitors
  • Sci-Fi MMORPG

I did vote on a few of the options that were reasons why I still play though. :)

  • I'm here for the social part of it
  • I don't like my RL and want a distraction

EU is for me a nice break, between all my game developing with Unreal Engine or making music. Also I like to chat with old and new EU friends. Exploring landscapes and drop probes all around.

The community/the freedom/the posibilities/the million different ways of playing/the never ending progress/skill system/rce element/the competitive element (competing vs the rest for the money left after MA fee) etc etc wouldnt say i play for profit but i enjoy the challenge of trying to profit/gain edge over others with skill/intelligent play/knowledge of markets etc. but ofc at the end of the day its for fun so not quitting my job to play fulltime just yet

Because I've been playing it for 15 of my 28 years of my life... Its as second nature to me as breathing at this point, but sometimes it feels like MA is trying to cut off my oxygen supply and making it hard lol

I will have to go with this answer (except dropping probes, I suck as a miner)

You did not list my reason as it is:
I like to kick back and relax and if a swirly happens..Meh..I'm cool.

Relaxation and friends are great but there is so many different social mediums as such nowadays, I don't see the social aspect as a reason these days. I do love the people I have met and are absolutely fantastic people.

I can't + rep you anymore but I so agree!

(You cannot give Reputation to the same post twice.)

I love the concept where the things you do actually has a real value and just not entertainment value, i spent thousands of hours in WOW and diablo 3 wich accounts to nothing... new season start from 0 all over again.
Every mob kill in EU is like scratching a lottery ticket and im still feeling as much joy hofing now as when i got my first one in 05.

My answer isn't there.

I play entropia because it's the only mmorpg with a real cash economy.

same story here :D

Hey everyone :)

Realy nice poll. :yay:

I like gambling and I hope to profit have same votes... strange or NOT?

I've checke few of those... Also I like that majority of population here is about my age (37) or older so pretty serious ppl arround and not much kids bragging, hateing and doing all kind of childish things

Cheers!

Since servers are down, I will chip in too. Back then I was looking for scifi MMO. I was considering Project Entropia or Anarchy Online. I picked PE because I liked RCE feature. These days it's all about RCE and a challenge of being profitable by MU chasing

Its not just one thing that makes me play this game.

I love this game cuz its one of a kind.
There is no max level and you dont become uber overnight.
You actually have to put yourself into how the game works and how things works best for you.
Profit is ofc awesome and something we all hunt for but i consider the money lost as soon as i hit that depo botten:laugh:
And ofc the social aspect of it. I met some of the most amazing ppl in here.

When I do log in and play it's purely because of my time in the old PE. If I was joining now :scratch2: not sure I'd still be playing.

* Gambling :yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

PS: You missed *sweating for 80% of player-base :)))

To beat Messi

originally it was to become a level 200 crafter with all BPs at QR 100

however, now it's only to get to 95% return before chipping and cashing out....

I read about EU I'm sure in a light science magazine called Focus. I thought I'd give it a try to avoid the 'constant' sexual demands from my wife who had a twice a day,'everyday' addiction.

Eventually I talked her into creating her own ava, and she went off teasing avas in a body stocking and high heels (she still does occasionally).

I did develop an addiction for EU, although I can take it leave it these days. I don't regret being part of the game, there's been some good times over the years. I don't love EU with the same magic I once did, although I do feel part of the furniture.

I fell in love with the game the summer of 2007.
It's been a torrid love affair ever since.

Sometimes it's a love hate relationship, other times it's hot and lustful. I still get excited when I play and look forward to logging in.

I've met some really awesome people irl from entropia, and have formed life long friendships. There are so many memories and good times that I have had because of this game that when the time comes to "break up" it will be sad...

luckily...I'm not ready to break up yet hehe

I still have missions to finish and skills to get rewarded with... :eyecrazy:

At first i would like to say Thanks for asking! I havent thought of this for a while, ...

I play EU for so many reasons that i have to generalize my answer. Get ready to dip into consciousness philosophy!

EU augments my reality as the embodied consciousness that i am as a human. It expands my possibilities to interact with the world and dramatically increases speed and range of my interactions, read cause and effect, to a worldwide scale. :scratch2: Compared to the real world EU is like a cradle. The baby inside the cradle is my very own conciousness and it has an avatar in the virtual reality of EU amongst many other avatars of other consciousnesses (of the real world), that i can interact with. Because of that virtual avatar my senso-motoric real world embodiment plays a minor role, in the virtual world. Its trained (or not) to be an interface to the interface of my computer. Thats all about it. We make games out of this to find out whos interface to interface relation works best,... they say thats all about it. And just because we are making games in the virtual world EU is a cradle, a place where you can try out stunts or get into confrontation, still falling soft maybe losing 60 Bucks not 600K Bucks (or your life) like in the real world, if you tried the stunt there. :scratch2:... So theres a second level beyond the consciousness, my augmented consciousness embodied by my virtual world avatar. It interacts inside a world designed in patterns that a real life consciousness is familiar with, even though cause and effect of the real world and the virtual world differs a whole lot. This similarity in patterns AND differences of cause/effect is the treasure chest. Just because the ingame patterns are specially desgined to fit to what i am (read my cosciousness) familiar with, they can be useful as a trainer for my real life skills interacting with these patterns.:king:

Started out because I'm simply a curious person, I try everything which seems unconventional out at least once. Eu was one of those things, and it fits well with my hobby for gaming.

As I realized how the game was working, I went towards actually profiting from it while building up a few contacts inside the game.

Nowadays I still have those contacts, but sadly EU has grown outdated. If I want to play around with a market simulation I move into Eve Online or some similar game which simulates a market well, unless EU which sadly fails at some important parts of it. Also I can interact with people easily outside of the game, thanks to Telegram and especially Discord nowadays. My only reason to stay is the slim chance at profiting with the game while actually playing, but that has been made into such a hard task compared to a few years ago that it's not really worth the hassle, so I'm online on and off now, instead focusing on other things which are more important in my life then a half-finished game.

Don't get me wrong, I still think the idea is great, it is just filled with half-assed implementations.

Short story: I started playing as a teenager as a means of raising capital to start investing. Entropia served it's purpose for that and today I mostly play for nostalgia, fun, and I try to justify it to myself by saying it's profitable.

Late comer to EU. Found it through an ad on a YouTube video and decided to check out EU videos and thought it was crazy I had not heard of it before. This was right before another space exploration flop came out and I was in hype mode for some space exploring. After researching EU, I honestly became a bit timid...knowing how deep into games I get when I join. I took the dive anyway, full aware of what it would cost me.....and welp, here I am not even 2 years later, level 82 Laser Sniper. Hoping to make my goal of Killstrike by 2 years. Lv100 by 3.
