Suggestion: Tokenization of game items

How do you trade them?

You can make direct trades or use open marketplaces (Rare Bits, OpenSea...). There are also dedicated/proprietary platforms for certain types of crypto-assets (CryptoKitties for... CryptoKitties, SuperRare for digital artworks...).

For very rare items (target for EU in my opinion), specific auctions can be set up on the occasion of prestigious events (a CryptoKitty was recently sold for $140,000; a crypto-art of a rose for $1 million...).

Listen to yourself...

Deeptoken is the dedicated/proprietary platform for Entropia for trading crypto-assets of Entropia Universe.

Isn't the u.s.d. withdrawal process and in game banks how u can already do this type of stuff instead of trading virtual goods for monopoly money?

And no, deep token ain't the same thing... that's more of a way for pps and mindark to temporarily rent out their 3d and 2d assets to other game devs.... of course turbosquid and similar vendors already cornered that niche so deep token will likely fail just as compet did when mindark tried to jump into an already overcrowded market....

Man I'm not asking you how you trade an ERC-20 token.

If you tokenize my sword and I sell it to you on a DEX how do i get the sword?

Who owns the token owns the sword. By creating a link between Ethereum wallet and EU account, MindArk knows who owns the sword in game. If a token transfer happens, the corresponding sword (its representation) in game is automatically transferred.

That makes sense?

Extra note: The same would also apply between two different games that accept this token. The design of the sword might be different between the two games, but the transfer would work similarly.

Of course.

But now we're back to integrating public, open source block chains directly into the EU item database, participating in a blockchain, needing a third party wallet to manage your items, etcetera...

Also the sort of money laundering and other concerns that bother a company like MA who do need a certain amount of KYC/AML compliance with no oversight at all. Items with tens of thousands of USD value.

You're ready to give this all over to MA's dApp programming team and blockchain integration specialists?

And still 100% for transparency there's only ever MA's promise that the item database matches the tokens in circulation. The only "true ownership" provided is the same as ever, the right to acquire it and not use it.

I still see tons of risk and endeavour for essentially zero tangible reward. It's not just a matter of sneering at the buzzwords, the business case for this doesn't play out.

This isn't to say it won't play out for games and VR worlds designed around the concept. I'm saying that doing this with a standalone property like EU at the current time is a bad value proposition.

The fact that EU is a real cash economy MMO is an important part of MA's value proposition. MindArk holds a leading (quasimonopolistic?) position in this (niche?) market and has gained an undeniable expertise in the field (including KYC/AML topics).

With the emergence of cryptos, real cash economy games are now popping up, and it will not take long before a meaningful blockchain-powered MMO is launched. Also, the market may not be niche for a very long time. Sure, these games will start to occupy the lower end of the market (in terms of gameplay, graphics...) but they will progressively move further "upstream".

This is why I think MA should begin to take action and introduce, certainly in a cautious manner, the tokenization of game items.

Let us see what the future holds :)

MindArk has chosen to explore the path laid out in the DeepToken whitepaper. The whole matter is not trivial to understand. Anyone arguing with it would do well with an honest self-assessment before letting others do this for them publicly.

So the in game item would act like a bitcoin wallet?... that is an interesting concept. Not at all what I thought you were talking about at first. I think Neverdie's headed in the direction you are wanting more than Mindark is. Have you read his white paper yet?

So far, though, all he's put out is https://dragonking.io/
