For fun, I decided to do a speed & cost test to compare tp chips and flying.

Items used:
Sleipnir Mk1 (C,L)
Quad-Wing Interceptor (L)
Teleportation Chip I
Teleportation Chip II
NeoPsion 10 Mindforce Implant
Mind Essence

This is a fairly typical set of ships + chips used by most players, I think.

Race course: Port Atlantis Mall to Billy's Spaceship Afterworld
[Calypso, 61612, 75183, 164, Waypoint]
[Calypso, 61997, 80262, 153, Waypoint]
Distance: 5,093
It's almost direct shot due north

Time started when I either left the ground flying, or equipped the chip
Time ended when I either landed and left the ship or materialized

Results:
Sleipnir Mk1 (C,L) 05:33 - cost=0.12
Quad-Wing Interceptor (L) 04:51 - cost=0.18
Teleportation Chip I 02:44 - cost=0.76916 (7 jumps)
Teleportation Chip II 01:48 - cost=0.96136 (4 jumps)

Speed winner: Teleportation Chip II
Cost winner: Sleipnir Mk1 (C,L)

Cost Divided By Seconds (x60 for min):
Sleipnir Mk1 (C,L) = 0.00036036 pec/sec (0.0216/min)
Quad-Wing Interceptor (L) = 0.00061856 pec/sec (0.0371/min)
Teleportation Chip I = 0.00469 pec/sec (0.2814/min)
Teleportation Chip II = 0.00890148 pec/sec (0.5340/min)

Nothing real earth shaking, since we know the costs, etc. just fun to see the numbers side by side.

However, interestingly, my 2nd to last jumps put me close enough to the target, that I could have T'd or suicided and still got there faster, and even cheaper

TP cost w/ 1 less jump (final speed variable based on method of final action)
Teleportation Chip I = 0.65928
Teleportation Chip II = 0.72102

Of course, for TP jumps, I didn't end up landing on a mob or side of a mountain and falling to my death, either of which would have increased time+cost significantly.

Yes, there are other vehicles, MF Amps, implants, etc. that could have skewed the results slightly. I.E. TP 3 or 4 would have been even faster/costlier. But as I said, this test uses a fairly standard set of items.

How does this speed compare to running? (which is free to do)
Screw you. I did my TP runs back in the day. Not gonna do it again.

After such extensive testing you have to test the speed difference compared to running and running with buffs ;) nice and fun statistics mate.

Sometimes, speed of arrival is everything. :)

Nice test JC!

If speed is everything, why not just use the teleporter? Its instantaneous and costs nothing. :silly2:

On topic though, I vaguely remember having to search the forum or entropedia for the location of the teleporter, waypoint it in-game and then spending the next 30 minutes to an hour or two trying to run there...depending on how hostile the monsters are and how dense the population is between the two points.

I miss those days, when you had to stay out of dangerous mobs aggro range whilst trying to get all the teleporters. There was a danger element and excitement and not to mention what an achievement it felt when you actually reached your destination in one piece.
