I'm not allowed to post in dev's corner, so posting this here. Hopefully MA will read it.

Dear MA:

Most VUs have classically been a disaster at best, and with something as fundamental as the camera/control system, I was definitely worried. It's clear you worked very hard on it, and IMO the quality of the release is fantastic. There's a lot of huge QoL improvements here, and the new system is vastly better than the old.

So far I've found only one minor bug with the icons, but everything else is working great (for hunting, at least). I had a few initial disappointments which were just learning curve for me, and not reading the docs properly.

You are going to have to deal with a shitload of geriatric old farts who don't like change, and there will be a ton of negativity surrounding this for the foreseeable future, so I just wanted you to have some positive feedback for a change.

I like the direction things are moving. You communicated this well, gave us nice previews, and I think it's a great release.

Looking forward to the next batch of improvements! :yay:




EDIT: I admit the geriatric comment was unnecessary, and a mistake. I apologize for greatly offending some people. I have left it for posterity, rather than edit it out. You guys can stop sending me death threats and hate mail.

You know, these days, people are more towards acting, doing, and talking everything positive in the working environment.

When you did a normal job. People will say, "Well done!"
When you did a bit good job. People will say, "You are my idol!"
When you did wrong. People will say, "Don't worry. Sometimes, we bad luck!"

Gotta get use to these positive culture.
 
I had the devil scared out of me because when it finished the D/L and install it locked up twice but is ok now, phew:).
 
Personally, I don't find removal of fundamental features and dumbing down of a system so that it appeals to people who just want to drool on themselves while they play revolutionary.

The camera is clunky and only offers limited option of over the shoulder(s) and drastically reduced ability to zoom out. No crosshair customization any more. No ability to remove the cursor flash (at least you can with mob flash) when you hit a target. No way to easily look around your avatar, that I've seen, without a camera snap-back function.

Don't see any real benefit to any of it other than that listed in the first sentence. Get your drool cups ready.
 
It's not just the geriatric old farts that don't like change (although I'm probably one of those) but it's also the disabled who have difficulty adjusting, especially when a number of features have been removed (auto-tool and next target were a Godsend for me, but now I doubt that I can physically play as much as I used to)

Positive feedback while using a logical fallacy where anyone who disagrees is immediately put into a category.

I totally agree with you that they are doing gr8 work. I am personally enjoying the new feel to EU. :)

In the view of positivity, one needs to consider not using negatives at all. I don't see the need to call out people with a different viewpoint in a negative light to appreciate the positiveness of someone else's work. Positivity i believe is focussing on the positives and let the negativity change on its own.

Basically i agree with your analysis of good work @ MA, but i don't find any value or need for shaming another groups point of view.

You may not have called any individuals but you effectively said 'anyone who disagrees with me and complains is a geriatric old farts'. After your statement it was no longer possible to give any criticism at all without being labeled to stupid or old to appreciate the new shiny things.

Autotool and next target is now deposited on the "F" button, and works wonderfully. The next target function is even smarter than before.

I can win a lot from the innovations. It may take some getting used to, but I do not see a reason to complain .......

I 100% agree with OP.
I love the update!
I would like to add:
- the update is very complex and I can now understand why they were so excited about it;
- I think the update is not ment for us primarily bt for the future generations, might sound funny, but it closes a little the gap between much newer games and this old game that we all love :D
- having to adjust is so hard for some that they loose their minds and they want to stay in caves forever, or, if adapting to something new is necessary, they want to change the game, to accommodate their style and sadly, no matter how much the game changes, they will be forever kerbing or punying so in the end it's all good and I hope MA does what's best for the game and not for kerbers.

good is definately that items can be decayed to 0.00 PED now, also shops seem to no longer be bugged....

bad is all tp & auction npcs are broken on rt (hotfix it pls MA!)...

what i've like to see is in 3rd person char being in the center even if it's optional. also the zoom-in when interacting being deactivateabl...

And as others have said, people don't like change, to some, the change is like telling some people who are left handed, they have to now only ever use their right hand and vice versa.

I don't like change, I found this control system after 30 mins (yea, not long I know) to be far worse than how I played before.

Stop with all this crap people don't like change posts.

If the changes were any good, we would ALL love it.

Personally, they can shove the (current controls) where the sun don't shine, and hopefully fix a few more things.

In a world with billions of individuals, there is no "ALL". Everyone has their ideas, wishes and abilities. There are also a few more opinions about the things in the world. So forget that good things are recognized by everyone's liking. that will never happen .....

Basically you gave no reason of what features u disliked or what can be done to improve but the fact that you dislike change. Hope you see the irony there.

Perhaps take some time out and calm yourself down, take some time to learn the changes ( am sure there will be lots of tips and tricks discovered in next few days) and then make an assessment keeping emotions out of the equation.

Now that my old brain has adjusted a bit I'll admit the lock target is very effective, as long as mobs are infront of you and you keep a bucket beside you so you can throw up every 30mins due to camera wobble. Oh, and you also need a loot pill because you can't zoom and move the camera around to loot the mob if it moves off screen.

Seriously though, the system feels like it could be great but needs a hell of a lot of polishing and adjustments.

Sometimes when I read some people's posts it makes me think that they are writing super positive things about MA because they want them to make their loot magically adjusted and give them super ATH prize.

Guys! Stop kissing each other asses. We are grown up community and we must send MindArk proper and solid feedback on this update. We cannot be biased, we cannot be too harsh but also not too sweet for them.

Let's just make a thread in which we can vote Yes if we like what we got and No if we don't. Every person who voted should logically explein their choice.

What I meant by people not liking change, was examples of why people saying it should not be used.
Of course people don't like change, 11 years of muscle playing is hard to wipe away in 1 swift fell swoop, then others condescending that.

The reason I don't like this new system, is because to me, it simply does not work.

Well, what this update does is - it seriously screws anyone who has put work into an efficient key setup, and gives a small advantage to lazy mousers.

Of course, some people won't mind being screwed as long as they believe others are screwed more...
