Hi everyone I played between 2007/2010 on and off and then quit until this week.
Things have changed a lot and I’m just trying to get my head around them all before I waste PED.
When I quit I sold most of my items and chipped out most of my skills and withdrew the PED so I am pretty much starting from scratch - I barely recognise the game from when I played anyway.

Please give me advice on what equipment I need and which mobs are best to hunt these days ?
I plan to deposit 5000 PED to get a head start - are the value packs in the web store any good or is there better options ?

This 5000 PED is going to be my only deposit for a while so would like a setup that will give me 2/3 hours gameplay per day for a few months before I need to deposit again.

Thanks for your help

Best advice to you is DON'T DO IT, or at least follow my advice.

The game has gone straight down hill since you left. If you want to "dip your toe in the pond", just start from scratch, get gremlin with 5B plates, a low level rifle and do the beginning missions to gain skills.

Don't go crazy with armor, weapons, faps, etc. Just do like I said and you will (though slowly) get in the swing of things.

Or you can do as some have done. Spend thousands and thousands of $$$ up front, buy the best armor, best guns and a crap load of ESIs loaded with skills. The problem with that is, you'll never recoup your initial investments the way the loot is now days.

Either way, remember it IS a "game" (casino) and treat it as such.

Thanks for the reply - I am treating this as a game and have no expectations of making money playing unless I’m lucky.

That being said I would like to give myself the best possible chance of getting hofs but it is not something I am expecting I just want to be able to deposit $500 and have some fun for a few months with a chance of winning money.

When I played originally I was a student so did not have much money to deposit now I have a well paying job and my time is worth more to me than money so before when I would spend hours sweating or grinding low level mobs with ultra eco setups I’d rather deposit and jump right in.

I have no problems depositing again if necessary to top up but do not want to be doing this too regularly.

Creatures loot "Shrapnel" which can be converted to universal ammo at 100:101 ratio (you get 1% extra ammo if you convert your own shrapnel instead of buying ammo from the TT).

It's probably better to deposit those $500 in boxes rather than straight PED. You have a tiny chance to loot some epic ring and convert the initial 5k PED into much more (very tiny chance, but hey...).

You should totally invest $30 in a golden starter pack, and the other $470 in strongboxes. This pack has everything you will need for your budget, sadly 5k PED isn't that much. The starter armor with 2A or 3A plates will get you as far as your budget can go safely (in my opinion).

More info about the starter packs (could be outdated).

Buy Strongbox+Key packs, don't buy Keys alone or you'll have to buy the strongboxes ingame separately. Double check please (https://account.entropiauniverse.com/account/shop/).

Some of the pills you will loot from the strongboxes can be sold ingame, and have decent MU. I doubt you'll need them, and you will get untradable ones for sure which you will have to eat anyway.

Ignore pets for now, they are a money sink you cannot afford.

Get a mentor if you can but watch out for disciple grinders, and optionally get a good society. Don't give too much credit to the Rookie channel (I would disable it honestly).

I'm in a hurry but I'll review this later and post what I'm missing.

Feel free to PM me ingame (or here) if you need help :)

PS: About WHAT to hunt, you'll have to figure it out yourself. My advice is that you stay on small creatures. With a golden pack and ~5k PED bankroll, you should have a few months of fun for sure.

Gremlin and 5b plates will allow you to hunt a wide range of mobs but your limitation will be the level of weapon that you can use with your current skills. However, there are a wide range of iron mission mobs that you can hunt with relatively low skills . Best if you consult entropiawiki to see what mobs you can hunt with your current setup rather than ask here what's best to hunt as there is a huge choice across 5 planets not to mention moons and asteroids. As a suggestion though, Kerberos are good.

I'd also suggest that you spend some time in familiarising yourself with the changes since you last played.

Great Advice so far. I would add that you need to find a good Society to help you thru the maze of iron missions. Every planet has them and all help you skill faster.

Be careful of mentors and societies, make sure you ask around about them and triple check info they tell you.
Many will just teach you how to lose PED faster (cause thats what they do themselves), others have been around for a long time and still use some info that is outdated but they believe is current.

Use this forum and the wiki to your advantage to find out the info you need. Regarding mobs, find out the average damage your weapon does and then find a mob that you can kill within 8-15 shots without constantly dying. Then look at the loot you get from them to figure out if there is anything to hold onto or if its just all TT. Rinse and repeat.

Some tips:
Make sure the mob gets a chance to hit you so you can skill evade, i see most new players avoid being hit at all cost...this part hasn't changed from back in your day.

Don't craft...no matter if you have the inclination to do so or not, it's not worth it for that bankroll (coming from a crafter).

In many cases, armor is now cheaper than using a healing tool.

Consider the money put into this game as lost...high chance you won't withdrawl it later. If you do then hats off to you.

Don't listen to everyone on this forum....especially those who don't pay attention to what others have told them and repeat the same mistakes...you will know who these are after reading some of the threads.

If you buy the Starter Pack Refills you will get HDNAs and Neuro Boosters.
If you buy Ammo packs you will get auto loot pills.
Auto loot pills can be sold, HDNAs are usefull if your hunting along ways from a revive.
Neuro boosters are a must for mining and crafting.
You will get 100% ammo for your money, and the pills etc are a bonus.
The starter pack is ok, but the armor makes you look fat, and stupid.
The rifle etc.. is a good weapon with a small amp/scope.
And you get a cool 4 wheel drive car with the good starter pack.
I did the CDF quests on calypso..
Not sure if you are starting a new account or not?
That's how I roll.. I buy 100.00$ worth of ammo, run it all through my gun, sell the shrap >> take the ped, Repair >> Mine, >> Craft.
Only time I deposit PED is to buy something rare.
Just relating my exp is all.
I like to make sure everything I spend is somehow related to getting experience along the way.

Can we get rid of the noob Armor yet? It's still clogging up my storage.
I know quite a few people wanted to get rid of theirs.

If you do decide to buy strongboxes to open , know that most or all pills that have high TT value ( lets say more than .01 pec ) can be put into refiner and converted to ammo. If you decide to buy the boxes from the webstore , know that the A pills can be sold for 3.5 to 4.0 ped each fairly easy.

don't buy peds. they take 10% off the top. if you need peds quick its better to buy straight ammo and cycle it and sell the shrapnel. for tt, or other players will buy it if you split the profit with them; shrap converts to universal ammo at 101%. strongboxes could be fun but takes long time to open 500 of boxes. and like the ubers above say "the ring the ring". better yet it's seasonal migration for a few more weeks and chances to loot summer boxes is high. so you might want to buy some keys with no boxes. same price. (ya i know, it's not their fault that they are retarded). you do got overnubee advantage tho. goodluck out there.

I'd also suggest that you take some time to do some exploring before you settle down to mob grinding. A lot has changed on Calypso and there are all the other planets now that were not there when you last played. Get yourself a quad and visit/explore the other planets. They all have starter mission chains that can be done for no cost and which generally have freebies. Be aware that space is PVP and though since the last VU a lot of it is now non - lootable its still not advisable to take anything that can be looted into space.

Cyrene, Arkadia and Rocktropia are about 45 minutes from Calypso by quad and Next Island and Toulan about 1 hour. There are space taxis (Equus quad or Firebird) that can get you to any planet in a few minutes though. They charge 20 ped I think, but its worth it if time is an issue. There are also spaceships that also offer fast service to any planet but they charge a bit more than the warp capable Equus/Firebird taxis. The warp ships are good if you need to safely move lootables between planets.

What Messi91 has said. Especially Don't let anyone decide for you.

And .. try to have fun... its hard to do with how loot is, but Fun can still be had in this game!

Ok here's some info on current state of the game
Medium player is now 300 hp
Average gear takes atleast:
Armor 1k
Regeneration chip 2k
Divine chip 1.5k
Rings 5-50k
Emergacy fap 5k
Weapon 5-20k
Amp 2-12k
Scope/sight 0.4k
As soon as you come close to the current "average player" MA will raise the cost to play once more by introducing another shit system and you need to pay again :)

Hehe

You forgot the money for the bankroll. He must have at least the cost of the animal that he want kill multiplied x 5,000. And if he want to secure the item that is in its loot, he must multiply it by 100,000 and not for 5000.

But, relax he can hunt punnys with 5000 peds and with patience and happines also could be an uber like messi or smilgs. :yay:

I don't believe anyone has said this so far in this thread so I'll say it:

Loot 2.0:

The loot calculation is now a mathematical equation which is based on how much you spent killing the mob, with MA's goal being to give back about 96% of the money that players have spent in hunting, in the hunting loot. Without getting into too much detail about how that impacts hunting, here are the 2 biggest take aways:

1. Whatever Markup you pay for your hunting gear, you should not expect to get back in your loot. For example, if you buy ArMatrix rifles at 120%, the 20% extra markup you paid will not factor into the loot calculation and therefore, in the long run, you should not expect to get that money back. What that means is, if you want to play it safe, try to use the lowest markup items possible, stick to items that have no markup, or have no more than about 108% or so markup.

2. Since MA intends for you to only get back only about 96% of the money you spend hunting, you will have to be smart and hunt things with added value. This could mean hunting mobs that drop items with high markup, or enter Events with prizes which would make up for the difference if/when you win those prizes.

Welcome back!

For hunting
I recommend buying the Gold Pack. The ZK gun and amp is a nice, cheap, efficient way to start.

Armor Decay is returned in loot as well. So a Adj pixie set is not bad, and wearing armor is better than before. (Harrier doesn't protect well).

Go do the newbie mission in Icarus. You get a free VivoS10. best healing tool for low lvs.

on the same boat!

You'll be starting 200+ levels behind Messi,..... let that sink in. While you're shooting punies he's be added pro levels at a faster rate with the best gear in the game. Plus he'll likely own a monopoly on any new gear, and hoard those items for stupid prices.

I'd say play for some 'entertainment' and see where it goes, relax and enjoy it. Anything more than that comes with considerable risks.

If you want return, buy another house on your street and hold it for 10 years.

Honestly, with that attitude you are off to a bad start. When I started playing in 2010 some players were over level 100 already and I've had a good time regardless.

And if you don't enjoy it don't become bitter and vengeful just cash out and move on, find some other game you really enjoy.

Stop focusing so much on other players, that helps too.

Just my opinion... good luck.

Google could be a good bet since they focus on services.

Hardly a bad attitude mate, saying play for entertainment relax and enjoy it. Besides I'm not bitter, it's a game. I've got more value adding developments in my life right now than to throw £300+ at a game every month.

Rick.

Ok then I will slowly withdraw peds and based on your recommendation I will buy google.

Just a comment on the 96 % average return: You should expect an average tt return of 92-94 % as a new player. MA states average returns, and that means counting in players with 98-99 % and a huge turnover.

Tha being said, the second advice is even more important: Try to find mobs that have loot you can sell for a decent markup if you want your peds to last the longest.

Not just new, MA confirmed ~1mil ped cycle of mine with m83 @ 92.8% TT return, around level 35-40 looter at the time.

Tools matter a lot, since by their rates, my weapon change and increased eff has increased my TT potential by ~1.2%
