Lots of interest in the weapon, but the price is a significant deterring factor as the weapon lacks any way of recovering the investment in any reasonable period of time.

Unless you strike it big with a massive uber of some sort ... I don't want to use the "g" word here but isn't this game all about probability and risk / reward?

That's not a feasible method of recovering investment. "Condition hunting" only pumps the overall value of a preexisting multiplier by the percentage of additional expenditure. Consequently the end result of a high volume of runs is very similar, minus the detriment by the (significantly) reduced efficiency on overall TT returns. Result? Condition hunting yields no actual benefit other than the excitement of chasing swirls.

Secondly, the axe, while definitely unique, offers relatively little (~26%) advantage (presuming condition hunting is the goal) over the more common Swine Deluxe in regards to overall expenditure in damage per PEC. Since the Swine Deluxe can be acquired as low as +1.3K and has sufficient DPS to hunt the vast majority of mobs. While the axe has significantly more DPS, that DPS is not a significant advantage in chasing swirls since regen increases overall "juicing" of the mob. As such the price difference does not justify itself even exclusively for the purposes of condition hunting.

Thirdly, condition hunting produces notably less markup per hunt roughly commensurate with the loss of DPP. An easy test for this is comparing eco hunting with any 2.0 weapon vs condition hunting with a swine deluxe (obtainable at +1.3K) in the Mayhem instances and comparing strongbox drop rate. This notably lower markup drop rate long term, resulting in significantly lower overall returns.

Finally, the axe's primary and best used purpose is PvP. It's power is certainly undisputed - it does appear to be the best melee weapon in the game for PvP. That being said, a high tier Master Guards Spiked Club is much more easily attained and at a fraction of the price. At tier 9 the club is within 7 damage of the Axe at current tier.
While the counter argument can be made that a tier 9 club only has potential for one more tier whereas the axe has potential for 6 more tiers, that argument is valid only in regards to it's future PvP ability. The rebuttal to said argument is taking into account not only the cost of having up to 7% lower TT returns but also having nearly 66% lower markup as well. The financial burden of continuing to tick the tiers on the axe is arguably tremendously higher than the initial acquisition cost, which strengthens my statement that the price point of this axe leaves no room for recovering the investment.

If this axe was priced at, or even slightly higher than, the value of a tier 9 Master Guards Spiked Club, then a strong argument could be made for the current PvP ability being the primary feature with future potential to improve that ability being an added bonus.

It is for these reasons, I believe, that while there is significant interest in the axe, no interesting offers have been made.

New year, new possibilities! :wtg:
