Not sure if this'll be of any use to anyone, but I've come across a 3D rendering / landscape and animation program called Bryce. It usually sells for around $100, but for a short period the company's offering a free download and registration:

Just thought I'd mention it, since it seems a nice bit of software for those interested in a little 3D graphics and animation. May as well take advantage of the free period.

Whoops, just noticed the edit. Apologies MB - I just copied and pasted what was in my address bar. :)

Thanks mate, I used Bryce 5 I think and I got some cool glassy structures and somewhat interesting 3D movies about 4 years ago... I think I got rusty... I used to create KDE icons replicas with it :)

No mentioning of pirates here please ;)

Aaaaah, this brings back old memories... however it sucks that you have to download the materials and stuff pack separately....

Sorry for bumping an old(ish) thread, but with the Let It Rock competition out, it occured to me that some people might decide to try to add some 3D animation to their projects.

Though the interface takes a while to learn, a decent 3D modelling/animation/rendering application would be Blender. It's free, and with some patience and quite a bit of practice (though the prize must certainly be worth it :yay:) must be worth a go, even if you decide in the end you don't like it.

For examples of the application in use, a gallery in both still images and in movies is available here http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/

Regards,
Andrew
