Why do you play?

I was just wondering, as the tedium of constantly loosing money over and over again has finally gotten annoying, what is it that keeps people playing through the tough times?
Is it the thought of the possibility of an ATH, or what?
As this game has a higher difficulty level then most and it requires a much more dedicated imput for you to be sucessfull, how do people manage to keep playing without switching to an easier game that is more rewarding?

Just like to hunt, but I always have a backup game to go back to.

Also like the fact that this game is still evolving and hope it gets some stuff in the future.

Is kind of relaxing to hunt without thinking about the PEDs made/lost (sometimes), and it is very challenging to try to survive with low resouces.

(probably what keeps me comming is the challenge... if that ends up someday, I'll probably will go off for good)

I've come to terms with the fact that I"m going to lose money. So, my goal is to minimize loses and beat the system.

In some games, the goal is to get to level 70 or some artificial cap, in EU, my goal is to beat MA.

Besides the thrill that the next loot might be a jackpot, the black box of EU is a huge draw. Trying to figure out the skill system, which melee skill affects hits and misses the most, what is the forumula that predicts when you get a particular hidden skill.

While quests and events in other games seem fun and a good idea, they become boring and artificial after a time. Go kill 10 rats and bring the tails back for a little coin. Big deal. Other quests are usually just as linear and just as artificial. The event system in MA is much better than quest systems in other games.

I'm not a fan boy, MA has a host of problems that I wont talk about here because this is a 'why I play' thread. But on balance, EU is more interesting (that doesn't mean fun) than most other games out there.

I play because I am a glutton for punishment. That and the fact that I enjoy helping others along the way.

I love the way of EU. How you can put money in and take money out but if you don't deposit you have to work for it. It's not like other games where you automatically get money just by doing stupid stuff. You actually have to try to be successful in this game being smart about every move. When hunts are bad you learn to go somewhere else at a different time. When you can't find a mining deposit you don't waste more bombs in that area looking for deposits you go somewhere else. And the skill part is great too. You can't rush skills that easily... you can by chipping but that is cost worthy. Again... you have to work for what you want.

cause it's fun with real cash economy.

I play because of the drive, the drive to be the best (well, better than others). I feel a drive to improve, and be better than people in my soc, my friends (all friendly competition). Just the feeling of being recognised as a well skilled and well known player keeps me playing, to acheive that goal one day

Gratz lol

i play cus it used to be fun and still is some times but i dont play much anymore due to being busy doing work and studying for school/college lol

but my aim is to eventualy get a kick ass HoF and make back what ive put in.

It's fun. I like the highs and the lows of it all - but then i love to play poker and go to the casino a lot

And having nice folk in your society is a good thing too
